Chapter 584 - 284: Eldest Miss Han, Don’t Say That
Chapter 584: Chapter 284: Eldest Miss Han, Don’t Say That
Li Chang’an shot him a cold glance. "That’s enough out of you. Let’s move out!"
The group quickly boarded the aircraft and flew toward the target area.
In the air, Sun Yang was pressed against the window, gazing at the distant mountain range. He couldn’t help but ask, "Brother Li, you think we’ll run into another Insect Race commander this time?"
"It’s possible. Or it could be something of an even higher level."
Li Chang’an replied coolly.
"A higher level?"
Sun Yang stared, his eyes wide. "You’ve got to be kidding, Brother Li. Commander Level insects are tough enough. If something even higher shows up, we’ll be..."
Before he could finish, Han Ruoxi cut him off. "Can you stop spouting nonsense and focus? The mission hasn’t even started!"
"Hey, Eldest Miss Han, I was just joking!"
Sun Yang forced a smile and waved his hands in surrender. "Alright, alright, I’ll shut up!"
The aircraft gradually descended. Once it landed, the Insect Hunter Squad quickly disembarked and sprang into action.
"Bai Lin, activate the recon system!"
Li Chang’an issued the command calmly.
Bai Lin quickly operated his equipment. A few seconds later, he looked up. "No strong Insect Race signals in the immediate vicinity, but I’m getting anomalous fluctuations from the mountains in the distance. Could be a nest!"
Li Chang’an nodded. "Target confirmed. Prepare to move!"
The team quickly assumed a combat formation. Li Chang’an took the lead, guiding them toward the target area.
Sun Yang followed close behind, whispering, "Brother Li, something feels off this time. It’s never been this quiet before. You think there could be an ambush?"
"Just watch yourself."
Li Chang’an said without looking back. "The Insect Race doesn’t do ambushes. When they see you, they attack."
"Alright, you’re the boss."
Sun Yang gave a wry smile and nodded, but he still felt a knot of unease.
The squad pushed forward in silence. After crossing several valleys, they finally reached the area with the anomalous readings Bai Lin had detected.
Before them was a massive cave. The surrounding rock walls were coated in a thick layer of Insect Race slime, and an acrid stench filled the air.
"Brother Li, an Insect Race nest!"
Bai Lin whispered.
"Han Ruoxi, Sun Yang, prepare to attack!"
Li Chang’an ordered coolly.
"Copy that!"
Sun Yang quickly raised his Pulse Gun, readying himself for combat.
"Once we’re inside, we adapt on the fly!"
Li Chang’an glanced at his teammates, then tightened his grip on his Saw Chain Sword and led the way into the cave.
A sickening stench permeated the cave. The ground was littered with Insect Race carcasses and rotting organic tissue.
The team held their breath and advanced cautiously.
"Brother Li, this place is disgusting!"
Sun Yang said, pinching his nose as he walked, his face a mask of disgust.
"Cut the chatter and focus!"
Li Chang’an warned coolly.
Suddenly, a faint sound came from up ahead.
Han Ruoxi immediately stopped in her tracks. An electric glow quietly gathered in her hands as she whispered, "Movement. Stay sharp!"
The team instantly went on high alert. Li Chang’an advanced slowly, his Saw Chain Sword slightly raised, ready for anything.
Just then, a massive insect burst from the depths of the cave, shrieking as it lunged at them.
"Engage!"
Li Chang’an barked. His Saw Chain Sword swung down in an instant, slashing viciously at the insect’s head.
The Saw Chain Sword roared to life as it sliced toward the pouncing insect.
Li Chang’an struck decisively, without a hint of hesitation.
The insect’s carapace let out an earsplitting shriek as it was split open by the blade, splattering black blood all over the ground.
"Nice one, Brother Li!"
Sun Yang, witnessing the scene from the side, immediately raised his Pulse Gun and opened fire.
"Don’t just stand there, keep up the attack!"
Li Chang’an grunted, taking a quick step back to brace for the next insect’s assault.
Han Ruoxi, positioned at the rear, her hands crackling with electricity, unleashed a rapid series of electric arcs that struck the insect with precision.
The current coursed through the insect’s body, instantly paralyzing it.
"Han Ruoxi, that lightning of yours really packs a punch!"
Sun Yang exclaimed while firing, "These things don’t stand a chance against it!"
"Less talk, more watching your feet!"
Han Ruoxi retorted coolly, her eyes vigilantly scanning their surroundings. She clearly hadn’t let her guard down.
By now, Shen Qiuyue had also charged forward. Her Dueling Sword flashed, easily severing one of the insect’s limbs.
Her movements were as crisp and decisive as ever, as if she were long accustomed to fighting the Insect Race.
"These insects are definitely stronger than the ones outside," Shen Qiuyue said in a low voice, the speed of her sword never faltering.
"This is just the beginning. There are probably bigger ones deeper in," Li Chang’an replied, his Saw Chain Sword already revving for another strike.
Just then, a low, guttural roar echoed from the depths of the cave. The vibrations shook globs of slime from the walls, and a suffocating pressure filled the air.
"Here it comes!"
Li Chang’an’s gaze hardened. He motioned for the others to halt. "Careful, everyone. The main one’s about to appear!"
"The main one?"
Sun Yang swallowed nervously, the hand holding his Pulse Gun trembling slightly. "Brother Li, it’s not going to be bigger than the one from yesterday, is it?"
Before the words were even out of his mouth, an enormous silhouette slowly emerged from the depths of the cave.
It was an insect of tremendous size, far larger than any they had encountered before. Its entire body was covered in a thick carapace, and several sharp tentacles whipped about its head. Its eyes glowed with bloodlust.
"Holy shit, this thing is huge!"
Sun Yang cried out, stumbling back two steps as he aimed his Pulse Gun at the giant insect. "Brother Li, should we be thinking about a retreat?"
"Retreat’s not an option now. Fight!"
Without a moment’s hesitation, Li Chang’an whipped his Saw Chain Sword up and charged straight for the giant insect’s head.
The giant insect let out a piercing shriek and lashed out viciously at Li Chang’an with its tentacles.
Li Chang’an quickly sidestepped the attack. His Saw Chain Sword followed through, striking the tentacle, but it only scraped a shower of sparks from the thick carapace.
"This thing’s carapace is even tougher!" Li Chang’an instantly assessed the situation. He quickly fell back and commanded, "Han Ruoxi, hit its tentacles with a shock!"
"Understood!"
Without hesitation, Han Ruoxi gathered powerful Electric Energy in her hands, and a bolt of Lightning shot toward the giant insect’s tentacles.
The moment the electricity struck, the giant insect let out an agonized howl, its body trembling.
Seizing the opportunity, Shen Qiuyue immediately brandished her sword and went straight for the insect’s other flank.
Her Dueling Sword struck like a viper, plunging deep into a gap between the carapace plates on the insect’s flank.
The insect’s massive body shuddered violently as it let out a piercing shriek of pain.
"Nice one! Keep up the attack!"
Li Chang’an yelled, swinging his Saw Chain Sword and launching another fierce assault on the giant insect’s head.
Meanwhile, Sun Yang laid down continuous fire from the rear, shots from his Pulse Gun raining down on the insect’s abdomen.
He shouted as he fired, "Brother Li, this thing’s a real tank! We need to finish it fast, or we’ll be in big trouble if more of them show up!"
"Less talk, more shooting!"
Li Chang’an barked, hacking at the giant insect’s head with his Saw Chain Sword. The blade bit into the carapace with an ear-grating screech.
The giant insect’s movements grew more frantic. It whipped its tentacles wildly, trying to drive back Li Chang’an and Shen Qiuyue.
Its body thrashed, trying to break free from their assault, but Han Ruoxi’s continuous electrical attacks suppressed its movements, causing its own strikes to become sluggish.
"My power’s running low! Finish it, quick!"
There was a hint of strain in Han Ruoxi’s voice. The electric arcs around her hands were weakening; she had clearly expended a great deal of Energy.
"Just a little longer!"
Li Chang’an roared, putting all his strength into one final blow. The Saw Chain Sword slammed deep into the insect’s head. With a sickening CRUNCH, its skull was split completely in two. Black blood gushed out, spraying across the entire cave.
