Chapter 559 - 272: What a Bunch of Cunning Things
Chapter 559: Chapter 272: What a Bunch of Cunning Things
Han Ruoxi shot Sun Yang a glare. "You’re a real piece of work. Enough about the food, can we talk about something important for once?"
Bai Lin sat in a corner, eating quietly. Intel he had acquired from the outside played through his headphones as he periodically typed on his personal terminal.
Li Chang’an glanced over at Bai Lin. "What are you up to? You’re really focused."
Without looking up, Bai Lin continued typing. "Looking into some intel. There’s been a lot of Alien Martial Artist activity lately, and I can’t figure out what they’re up to."
"Those guys again!" The moment he heard the words "Alien Martial Artist," Sun Yang perked up. "I was almost sniped by them last time. They’re a bunch of cunning bastards.
Chang’an, if we run into them again, we’ve got to strike first!"
"What’s the rush?" Li Chang’an waved a dismissive hand. "Commander Liu Na will handle them. We should stick to our duties and not get involved."
Sun Yang pursed his lips, clearly a bit unhappy with Li Chang’an’s calm demeanor. "I’m just trying to win some glory for our squad. What, you don’t want the higher-ups to see what we can do?"
"The higher-ups are always watching us. You don’t need to worry about that," Li Chang’an said matter-of-factly.
Han Ruoxi leaned in, her curiosity piqued. "Hey, Brother Chang’an, do you have some inside information? Don’t hold out on us. Spill a little!"
A faint smile touched Li Chang’an’s lips. "’Inside info? Nothing like that. Commander Liu Na just told me our squad is performing well and that we’ll have no shortage of missions in the future.’"
"Future missions?" Sun Yang’s eyes lit up. "Does that mean we’re not far from some real action?"
"Yeah, Sun Yang. Don’t be so eager for a big fight. When you’re actually on the battlefield, you’ll know what regret is." Li Chang’an waved his hand. "Alright, let’s finish today’s training schedule first. Stop thinking about just eating, drinking, and having fun."
"Training! Training!" Sun Yang collapsed onto his chair with an anguished expression. "Every day it’s nothing but training, training, and more training! I’m practically turning into a robot!"
Li Chang’an stood up and patted his shoulder. "Then don’t be a robot. Be cannon fodder for the Insect Race instead."
"No, no, no! I’ll be a robot!" Sun Yang shot back to his feet. "Being Insect Race cannon fodder doesn’t really suit me!"
Han Ruoxi watched them bicker and couldn’t stop laughing. "If you two squabble like this every day, I don’t think training will ever get too boring, will it?"
Shen Qiuyue cut in coldly, "Bickering doesn’t solve problems. Training is what’s important."
Sun Yang shrugged helplessly. "Alright, alright, the lady is right. I concede.
Let’s go, time for training!"
The members of the Insect Hunter Squad got to their feet, ready for their afternoon training session.
On the training ground, Li Chang’an stood at the front, Saw Chain Sword in hand. He rolled his shoulders slightly.
"Today’s training is simple: tactical collaboration with a focus on teamwork.
Don’t think about fighting on your own. Remember, we are a squad!"
He had barely finished speaking when Sun Yang immediately raised his hand. "Captain, I just have one question. Since it’s all about coordination, shouldn’t my heavy weaponry get priority? You all should be following my fire commands, right?"
Li Chang’an shot him a look. "If you can manage to avoid hitting your teammates, then we’ll all listen to you."
Han Ruoxi immediately chimed in, teasing, "Yeah, he’s right, Sun Yang. During the last simulation, I was almost caught in your line of fire!"
Sun Yang put on an innocent face. "Hey, that was an accident! An accident! I swear it won’t happen again!"
"I think you’d be better off just following commands," Li Chang’an said, decisively assigning their tasks. "Han Ruoxi, have your Electric Superpower ready at all times. You’re responsible for suppression.
Shen Qiuyue, you’re on close-quarters cover.
Bai Lin, you provide recon and tech support.
Sun Yang, your heavy firepower is the last resort!"
"Hey, alright, alright, I get it!" Sun Yang waved his hand in resignation. "’Looks like I’m the last trump card!’"
Han Ruoxi sidled up with a grin. "You’re a pretty big trump card!"
"A big ace is what makes a great hand!" Sun Yang chuckled, not at all bothered by what anyone said.
Li Chang’an said nothing more, simply signaling for everyone to get into position.
The squad members quickly fell into their training mindset, their roles clearly defined. The training ground soon filled with their shouts and the sounds of their movements.
After a while, the training session ended, and the team sat in the rest area, panting.
"Today’s intensity was decent, better than the last few days!" Sun Yang wiped away his sweat and leaned back in his chair. "I feel like I’m not completely drained!"
"You should be grateful," Shen Qiuyue said coldly. "The intensity was more than enough. Your stamina is just poor."
Sun Yang was stung into silence and scratched his head. "Fine, I’ll take that as a compliment!"
Han Ruoxi came over with a grin. "Alright, alright, stop bickering, you two. We have to train again tomorrow, so let’s call it a day and get some rest!"
"Rest? Han Ruoxi, I think you’re just trying to slack off!" Sun Yang immediately latched onto her words. "Are you trying to get out of another round?"
Han Ruoxi waved her hands frantically. "No, no, no! I’m really just thinking about what’s best for the team!"
Li Chang’an stood up and checked the time. "Alright, that’s it for today. Go get dinner and get to bed early. We have a mission tomorrow."
Sun Yang immediately leaped to his feet. "Awesome! Dinner time! We can finally escape this training ground!"
The rest of the squad stood up, laughing, ready to head back to the base for dinner.
"Man, this training ground is just brutal!" Sun Yang strode out in front, wiping the sweat from his forehead, not forgetting to complain. "Chang’an, don’t you think we should find a chance to report this to the higher-ups? If we keep this up, they’re going to work me into a pile of scrap metal!"
