Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Shameless Player
“Please, stop!”
A doctor in a white lab coat escaped from that room in panic.
“Come back here! I’m getting that proof today and that’s that!”
Following her, a fat man who seemed to be suffering from hair loss problems despite his young age gave chase and attempted to catch the doctor.
With a quick move, Ji Ye grabbed the man’s arm and held him against a wall.
Even though he couldn’t bring to reality any extra abilities he had gained inside the Land of Inheritance, he still had the above-average strength and reflexes of a professional survivalist. Besides, some of the training advice did apply to real life, which allowed him to use his strength a lot more efficiently. A common young man who seemed to be spending too much time indoors had no way to shake free from his grasp.
“Argh—get, get off me, you moron!! You’re going to break my arm!”
By using a technique introduced by Mantis Fist, Ji Ye was holding the man in such an effortless but effective way that even the smallest movement would cause the man great pain.
“Are you okay, Doctor Shang?” Ji Ye said to the doctor without minding his captive.
That lady with black hair in a bun and frameless glasses was the doctor who had given him a mental examination when he first arrived at the player base. It was clear that the lady had just encountered a problematic patient.
While staying in the base, Ji Ye would occasionally hear other players talking about behavior problems. While most of the players wouldn’t mind exploring the Land of Inheritance on a daily basis, a part of them would refuse to go there ever again. It was understandable, after accumulating all kinds of bad memories upon dying, because most people weren’t cut out for going through more than one death in their lives.
However, there were people who would fake sickness to gain an advantage.
The player base would generously allocate healthcare and more resources for “wounded players,” as well as special care provided by experts. In other words, players who needed to recover had the right to request extra goods without having to participate in any work.
Since all players were considered important by the government, the base usually didn’t enforce strict rules and regulations. As long as a player presented the necessary certificate issued by a doctor, he or she would be free to do anything.
“There weren’t so many of them before but… Things are getting out of hand,” said Ling Chen.
“I see. They didn’t come out and cause trouble earlier because they feared that new players would replace them. But they finally bared their teeth since they’re not seeing any new players joining them,” Ji Ye commented, before talking to the fat man he was still subduing, “hey, you know what? I agree that you got a problem somewhere in your head, since you can be so shameless. Let me give you a tip. You don’t solve your problems by throwing cups or yelling at a woman. Go get yourself taken care of at an asylum and don’t ever come out, okay?”
It was still possible that the fat man wasn’t feigning his condition. Though Ji Ye would not let him go free because that would cause more problems in the base.
“Who—who the heck are you? How can you do this to a ‘Chosen One’?” The fat player protested between breaths. It seemed that he saw Ji Ye as a common worker from the base.
Ling Chen took out his phone and scrolled through the roster.
“Mister Sun, is it? Kindly stop acting up, or I’ll have to do my job as part of security. That is, to arrest you.”
Several others showed up around the hallway upon hearing the ruckus.
“ACTING UP?” The fat man seemed to be losing it. “I freakin’ DIED inside the Land of Inheritance. Do you even know how that feels like, huh? Losers? I fought for mankind, I bled for our cause, and this is how you’re gonna repay me? Deny my condition and send me back to die again?”
It could be seen that being a renowned professional didn’t necessarily mean being emotionally civilized. That fat player was clearly a “skillful but ill-mannered” type.
“Do you want me to throw him out?” Ji Ye asked Ling Chen.
He wasn’t a hired worker in the base. Using violence to deal with troublemakers couldn’t hurt too much. But on second thought, that wasn’t proper when a security officer was right there watching.
“What’s going on here?” another man approached them while asking.
The fat man saw the newcomer and struggled. “There you are, Captain Yang! Quick, tell them. Didn’t this woman say that I had a mental trauma so I could no longer go to the Land of Inheritance?”
Ji Ye glanced at the approaching figure.
Pale while skin, slim build, clear lens glasses… It was Yang Lin, the captain of Operation Task Force Two. It seemed that Yang Lin’s team was responsible for taking care of this fat player.
He wondered how this other captain would react to the dispute.
“Mister Sun Zizai, I believe we hired the best hands we could find to be our psychiatric specialists. If she says you’re fine, then you’re fine. Care to tell me why are you pretending otherwise? If you do not wish to go to the Land of Inheritance again, just say it out loud and no one’s going to force you. Or if you simply need to vent out your excessive spirit, we have strong tranquilizers for that.”
That was how Yang Ling responded, after learning the situation from several onlookers.
Ji Ye was a bit surprised to see the captain being so reasonable. He thought Yang Ling would more or less defend his guest, instead of joining the criticism.
“YOU—” The fat man’s face turned red in rage. “Fine! I shall make an appeal about this matter to the provincial capital so they can test me properly. Somebody will have to compensate me for all the time I wasted! I will find justice!”
No one listened to him, as they were all busy reading a new message that had just popped up inside their minds.
