Chapter 324: The Four Single-Attribute Clans Gather in the Spirit Hall Dungeon
Chapter 324: The Four Single-Attribute Clans Gather in the Spirit Hall Dungeon
The dungeon of Spirit City.
Not a single ray of sunlight reached this place all year round.
Dampness seeped through the cracks in the stone walls, mixing with the stench of rust and mold that forced its way into one’s nostrils.
The stone walls were covered in slimy moss, and underfoot was ankle-deep sewage that creaked when stepped on, splashing bone-chilling black water.
An oil lamp hung every dozen meters or so overhead.
The pea-sized flames were tossed about by the draft, tearing the shadows on the wall into various distorted grimaces that glared at every cell with bared fangs and claws.
The cell doors were all cast from cold iron.
From deep within the dungeon, shrill screams echoed every now and then.
Occasionally, the clatter of iron chains dragging across the stone slabs would bounce back and forth in the empty underground, making one’s scalp tighten.
"...Thud, thud, thud..."
A heavy set of footsteps approached from the direction of the entrance.
The crisp metallic clatter of armor plates colliding echoed repeatedly in the narrow passage.
A squad of Spirit Hall soldiers in bright silver armor entered in single file, carrying stretchers.
Unconscious figures lay haphazardly on the stretchers, their Faces pale and their Meridians sealed.
The leading captain kicked the calf of the soldier behind him and roared grumpily, "Be quick about it! Get out as soon as you’re done! I don’t want to stay in this gods-forsaken place for a single breath more!"
The soldiers quickened their pace, hurriedly shoving the people from the stretchers one by one into the innermost cell.
The cold iron bars clanged shut.
The massive lock dropped with a dull metallic thud.
"Withdraw!"
With a wave of the captain’s hand, the group lined up, and their footsteps quickly faded into the distance.
The oil lamp’s flame was still flickering.
In the neighboring cell.
Yang Wudi leaned against the stone wall, his fingertips repeatedly rubbing the stem of a dried herb.
He hadn’t rested since he was locked up.
His mind was entirely focused on how to break the sealed Meridians in his body and restart his spirit power.
The clanging commotion next door caused him to subconsciously look over.
Then, it felt as if he had been doused with ice water from head to toe.
On the floor of the cell, a burly figure lay flat on his back.
His body was covered in crisscrossing wounds, the clothes on his chest were soaked a deep brown with blood, and his head was tilted to one side. That Face was all too familiar.
The herb in Yang Wudi’s palm slipped and splashed into the sewage.
He didn’t bother to pick it up, throwing himself directly against the cold iron bars. The veins on his hands gripping the bars bulged as he shouted toward the next cell, "Old orangutan!"
The voice exploded dully in the dungeon, making the oil lamp’s flame tremble three times.
"The Old orangutan was captured too?!"
This shout startled everyone in the cells to the left and right.
Bai He had been resting his eyes against the bars; his thin frame looked like a withered leaf in the gloom.
Hearing the words "Old orangutan," he suddenly straightened up, crossed to the bars in two steps, pressed half his Face against the cold iron, and peered toward Tai Tan’s cell.
Niu Gao was sitting in the corner, his back against the wet stone wall.
He jumped up with a start at the shout.
He rushed to the bars, his coarse, large hands gripping the cold iron tightly. "What? The Old orangutan fell too?"
The three of them crowded against their respective bars, staring fixedly at the unconscious Tai Tan in the next cell, the color draining from their Faces.
"What exactly is going on?"
Niu Gao’s voice was low and heavy, but it couldn’t suppress the surging disbelief within.
"It’s one thing for the three of us to be caught, but even the Old orangutan—"
The words caught in his throat.
His thick palm slapped the cold iron bars, the dull sound echoing back and forth in the passage.
Bai He stroked his graying goatee, his Adam’s apple bobbing twice as he let out a long, heavy sigh.
"In a single night, our Four Single-Attribute Clans have all been taken down by Spirit Hall."
Those who acted last night were not just Yue Guan and Gui Mei, but also Devil Bear Douluo, Ghost Leopard Douluo, and Phoenix Douluo.
"Damn it!"
Yang Wudi smashed his fist into the cold iron bars, the force making them hum and tremble.
His knuckles were scraped raw, and blood flowed down the bars, dripping into the sewage beneath his feet.
He was completely oblivious to the pain, every word bursting from between his teeth sparking with Fire Spark: "What exactly does Spirit Hall want to do!"
The other two fell silent.
No one could answer his question.
The Four Single-Attribute Clans had been rooted in the Heaven Dou Empire for many years.
Although they weren’t considered top-tier noble houses, every clan was presided over by a Clan Chief of the Spirit Douluo level.
There were also many elites in the clans, and anyone would have to give them some Face.
Yet Spirit Hall had acted against them all simultaneously in one night.
The four clans were uprooted, and every single person was locked in the Spirit City dungeon.
Acting right under Heaven Dou’s nose—has Spirit Hall’s fist become this hard?
What made their blood run even colder was: what exactly was Spirit Hall after, going to such lengths to deploy several Titled Douluo just to capture all four of their clans?
To kill them outright?
Yang Wudi stared at the unconscious Tai Tan in the next cell, his brows knitted into a tight knot.
If they wanted to kill them, they could have done so on the spot.
Why go through the trouble of transporting them back to Spirit City to lock them up?
Niu Gao muttered gloomily, "They couldn’t have caught us just to invite us for tea."
Bai He’s fingers tightened slightly on his beard, his aging voice kept extremely low.
"Not to kill, and not to interrogate... then they want to use us to trade for something, or... to bait someone."
The three of them looked at each other, a layer of frost appearing in their pupils at the same time.
...
Supreme Pontiff Palace.
Bibi Dong sat on the Supreme Pontiff’s throne.
She lowered her eyes, looking at Yue Guan and Gui Mei standing bowed below the steps.
Yue Guan kept his head down, reporting every detail of the capture of the Strength Clan.
He was cautious, for fear of displeasing Bibi Dong.
When he mentioned that they encountered Tang Hao at the Strength Clan’s residence, but Tang Hao had used the Ring Explosion secret technique to burst with power and escape.
The scepter in Bibi Dong’s hand slammed heavily onto the white jade floor.
A dull "thud" echoed far into the spacious Supreme Pontiff Palace.
"Useless!"
Bibi Dong spat out two words coldly, her voice devoid of any warmth.
Two Titled Douluo couldn’t even take down a Tang Hao who was already mostly crippled—what were they if not useless?
Yue Guan and Gui Mei’s bodies stiffened simultaneously, their heads bowing even lower as they stood there in fear and trepidation, not even daring to breathe loudly.
Both of them were Titled DouluoElder level in Spirit Hall.
Outside, they were beings revered by thousands.
But in front of Bibi Dong, they didn’t even dare to lift their heads.
"..."
After a moment of silence.
A flash of impatience crossed Bibi Dong’s eyes as she waved her hand.
"Dismissed."
No punishment, no scolding—just that one light sentence, yet it made Yue Guan and Gui Mei feel as if they had been granted a general amnesty.
"Yes!"
The two of them bowed and walked backward out of the Supreme Pontiff Palace.
Only when the palace doors were completely closed did the two of them breathe a sigh of relief.
Yue Guan wiped his cold sweat and sighed, turning his head to say to Gui Mei beside him.
"Her Majesty the Supreme Pontiff is as cold as ever. Old Ghost, why do you think Her Majesty the Supreme Pontiff attaches such importance to people related to Tang Hao?"
Gui Mei didn’t respond; he just gave him a cold glance and turned to leave.
"Old Ghost?"
Seeing Gui Mei walk away quickly, Yue Guan rolled his eyes and followed him.
