Chapter 148: Rejected Yu Tianheng, Dugu Yan, and Ye Lingling
Chapter 148: Rejected Yu Tianheng, Dugu Yan, and Ye Lingling
The center of Heaven Dou Royal Academy.
Pink petals were swirled by the wind, spinning lazily.
Yu Tianheng had specially changed his outfit today. Embroidered on his white martial suit were dark blue thunder patterns.
The fabric was crisp, making his spine look as straight as a spear.
In his left hand, he held a large bouquet of dark blue hyacinths.
His right hand was behind his back, his chin slightly lifted, and his gaze swept across his surroundings with the air of "Everyone look closely at me."
One step, two steps.
He walked towards the colonnade.
His boots stepped on the stone path; the sound wasn’t heavy, but every step struck the air that was gradually growing quiet around him.
Dugu Yan was leaning against a vermilion pillar.
Her long green hair was tied into a high ponytail, swaying slightly as she tilted her head.
Her academy uniform clung to her body, hugging her curves in all the right places.
She didn’t look at Yu Tianheng; her fingertips were twirling a fallen cherry blossom petal, her face expressionless.
Yu Tianheng stopped three steps in front of her.
"Yanzi."
He raised his voice so that every corner of the plaza could hear clearly.
"I like you."
He held the bouquet out to her.
The deep blue crashed into her field of vision, carrying the distinct, fresh scent of morning vegetation.
"Please be with me!"
As these words were thrown out, the plaza went silent for half a second.
Then it exploded.
"Damn!"
A boy wearing glasses slipped, and his weapon almost dropped onto his feet.
"Yu Tianheng? He confessed? And in public?"
A girl with twin tails nearby tugged violently at her companion’s sleeve.
"It’s Dugu Yan!"
Someone with a loud voice popped up in the crowd.
"Yu Tianheng is the Young Lord of the Blue Lightning Tyrant DragonFamily, the Clan Chief’s own son!"
Someone immediately chimed in,
"Dugu Yan is the Poison Douluo’s own granddaughter! Have you seen her Jade Phosphorus Purple Fog? Last practical class, the opposing team collapsed in three seconds!"
After learning their backgrounds, the eyes of the onlookers changed.
From watching for fun, it turned into "Oh, these two are a perfect match."
A few bold boys began waving and jeering:
"Say yes!"
"Say yes!"
The voices merged into a single sound, hitting the surrounding buildings of the plaza and bouncing back.
The cherry blossom trees trembled, and petals fell in a flurry.
Hearing the cheers, the corners of Yu Tianheng’s mouth curled up slightly.
This was in the bag.
He thought to himself.
With his strength as a Genius, plus the brand name of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, what girl in the academy would refuse him?
Moreover, he wasn’t bad-looking, his physique was well-trained, and he had specifically chosen this outfit today.
His fingertips rubbed against the flower bouquet’s wrapping paper; the rough texture made his mind clearer.
The Family’s instructions rang in his ears: Enter Heaven Dou Royal Academy, the primary task is to get close to Dugu Yan.
Preferably become lovers.
As long as he took her down, it would be equivalent to securing the line to the Poison Douluo, Dugu Bo.
That Old freak was famous for doting on his granddaughter.
That was why he had snatched the position of captain of the Heaven Dou team, to be on the same team as Dugu Yan.
Being together day and night, there were plenty of opportunities.
Today’s confession was merely a natural step in the plan.
He waited for Dugu Yan to reach out and take the flowers.
He waited three seconds.
Five seconds.
Ten seconds.
...
Dugu Yan didn’t move.
She didn’t even look at the flowers.
Her gaze drifted past his shoulder, staring at the empty air behind him.
Her willow eyebrows knitted slightly—it was subtle, but Yu Tianheng caught it.
The cherry blossom petal at her fingertips fell, landing silently on the ground.
"Yanzi."
A soft, gentle voice sounded from the side.
Dugu Yan’s good friend, Ye Lingling, had moved closer at some point.
Her long blue hair hung softly over her shoulders, and the hem of her light blue dress brushed against the ground.
She held a thick ancient book, the emblem of a healing Spirit Master printed on the cover.
She reached out with fair fingertips and tugged at Dugu Yan’s sleeve.
"The captain is talking to you."
Dugu Yan seemed to be pulled back to reality by this tug.
She turned her head, not looking at Yu Tianheng, but instead staring at Ye Lingling.
Her green eyes held confusion, and a trace of anxiety she couldn’t hide.
"Lingling."
Her voice was low, but since the surroundings were too quiet, it could still be heard,
"Look closely, is there a Light Screen slightly to the left above Yu Tianheng’s head? A faint, green one."
Ye Lingling was stunned for a moment.
She looked in the direction of Dugu Yan’s gaze, studying it seriously for several seconds.
Her blue eyes blinked again and again.
Then she shook her head.
"No."
Her voice was full of confusion.
"I only see Yu Tianheng and everyone else. There is no Light Screen."
Dugu Yan’s expression changed instantly.
Her brows knitted tightly, and the anxiety in her eyes exploded into unease.
She didn’t hesitate any longer and grabbed Ye Lingling’s wrist.
"Let’s go."
She turned and left!
Her green ponytail whipped through the air in a half-circle.
Her purple skirt hem swept across the ground, kicking up a few freshly fallen petals.
She took urgent steps, almost running, dragging Ye Lingling as she rushed towards the dormitory.
She didn’t look back, not even sparing a glance at Yu Tianheng.
"???"
Yu Tianheng still maintained his posture of offering the flowers.
The smug smile on his face froze at the corners of his mouth.
"!!!"
The jeering from the surroundings came to an abrupt halt.
The plaza was so quiet that only the sound of the wind remained, rustling through the flowering trees.
The onlookers looked at each other, their faces wearing the same expression of bewilderment.
What happened?
Was he rejected?
Just like that?
Yu Tianheng finally reacted.
Blood rushed to his head with a "boom," and his cheeks were hot enough to fry an egg.
A sense of humiliation, like a venomous snake, slithered up from the soles of his feet and bit into his heart.
His fingers tightened abruptly.
The wrapping paper let out a "creak" of agony.
The stems of the hyacinths were crushed out of shape, and sap oozed out from between his fingers, sticky and messy.
The veins on Yu Tianheng’s forehead throbbed, and his temples ached.
He stared in the direction Dugu Yan had disappeared, his eyes terrifyingly red.
...
The gravel path clicked and clacked under their feet.
Dugu Yan dragged Ye Lingling along at a fast pace, almost at a jog.
She specifically chose quiet paths, avoiding any potential gazes.
Her green hair flew behind her like a streak of escaping lightning.
Ye Lingling was dragged along, stumbling.
"Yanzi, slow down..."
She was panting, her long blue hair somewhat disheveled.
"What exactly is going on?"
"..."
Dugu Yan didn’t answer.
Only when she rushed into the girls’ dormitory, ran up the stairs, opened the door, pulled Ye Lingling inside, and slammed the door shut with a "bang" did she let go.
Ye Lingling leaned against the door panel, panting.
She held the ancient book in her arms tightly.
She looked at Dugu Yan, her blue eyes filled with question marks: "Yu Tianheng, he..."
"Don’t mention him."
Dugu Yan interrupted her, her voice stiff.
She didn’t look at Ye Lingling and walked straight to her own private bedroom.
She placed her hand on the doorknob, paused for half a second, then twisted it and slipped inside.
The door closed before Ye Lingling’s eyes.
The sound of the latch snapping back was crisp and decisive.
Ye Lingling stood in the center of the living room.
The ancient book in her arms slid onto the table with a dull "thud."
"..."
She stared at the closed door, her lips moving, but in the end, she said nothing.
It was too strange.
Yanzi was too strange today.
Ignoring Yu Tianheng’s confession.
She remembered that Yanzi’s relationship with Yu Tianheng wasn’t that bad.
And that "Light Screen" Yanzi mentioned.
What Light Screen?
Ye Lingling rubbed her eyes.
She really didn’t see anything.
