Doted By The Regent King

Chapter 1895 - 1833: Inconceivable

Chapter 1895: Chapter 1833: Inconceivable

The north wind howled, snowflakes swirling.

Ah Jiu tossed and turned on the bed, unable to sleep.

"Can’t sleep?" Wufu’s hand reached over, interlocking fingers with his.

"Did I disturb you?" Ah Jiu turned his head to look, seeing Wufu lying sideways facing him.

Wufu said, "No, I haven’t slept either." After a pause, she added, "Still thinking about what we considered earlier today?"

Ah Jiu pondered for a moment, then replied, "What do you think the likelihood is?"

Killing one’s own child—it was inconceivable even to hear.

There have been tales of emperors killing their children, but only when the child was treacherous or committed an unforgivable act did they resort to such measures.

Yet, little Qinger was not even three years old. If Emperor Yan truly spared no mercy even for a three-year-old, then his actions could indeed be described as brutally savage, especially since Qinger was his legitimate son.

Whenever Ah Jiu thought of this possibility, he shivered.

One must possess a heart cold and cruel beyond belief to make such a decision—it was truly terrifying!

"I don’t know." Wufu dared not conclude; she too didn’t dare think about it. If it was true, then Emperor Yan was a great demon, one she had underestimated.

Ah Jiu felt a chill down his spine, unable to resist moving closer to her, saying, "I can’t understand him, or maybe, I never understood him at all."

All along, he thought he was a competent and noble emperor, a good elder brother to his siblings, but those were mere appearances. Beneath the surface lay a fierce, ferocious beast.

If the crimes of killing a child and dishonoring a mother were exposed, he would be condemned by all, deemed shameful, and unfit for Heaven and Earth.

"I’ve finally realized he’s genuinely an emperor," Wufu lamented, believing all along he was a restrained tiger when in truth he is a savage, raging tiger.

"Wufu, I’m afraid to investigate further." Ah Jiu held her hand tightly, his courage faltering, fearing that continuing might lead her and his Royal Mother into danger.

When a person has weaknesses, they become fearful.

Wufu and Empress Dowager Mo were Ah Jiu’s weaknesses—two women most important to him in his life.

Sensing Ah Jiu’s fear, Wufu snuggled into his arms, hugged his waist, and said, "No matter what happens, we will always be together."

Ah Jiu murmured in response, gently patting her back, his eyes growing brighter and colder in the darkness. He needed his own strength to protect them, a strength even the emperor dared not challenge. He had to think.

At that moment, in the royal palace, Emperor Yan woke from a nightmare, drenched in cold sweat.

He sat up on the bed, breathing slightly, pressing his chest. He dreamt of that child questioning why he wanted him dead, only to turn into a fierce ghost, charging at him with an open mouth.

"Your Majesty?" Empress Song sat up beside him, asking, "What’s wrong? Did you have a nightmare?"

The glazed palace lantern emitted a dim light, revealing sweat on his forehead. She couldn’t help but reach out to wipe it, but Emperor Yan turned his head away to avoid her.

Empress Song awkwardly lowered her hand.

Emperor Yan glanced at her, recalling the dream. That child was Empress Song’s legitimate son.

A hint of loathing grew in his heart as he got out of bed, "Empress, go back to sleep. I’m going to Yangxin Hall to review some memorials to the throne." With that, he summoned attendants to dress him, and shortly his carriage departed.

Empress Song coldly watched him leave, huffing before lying back down. Nightmares—how could he not have them?

Such a beast, devoid of morals, deserved to be haunted by nightmares, forever tormented!
