Doctor Reborn as a Peasant Girl? Time to Get Rich

Chapter 223: What’s It to You?

Chapter 223 -215: What’s It to You?

Hu Feng came over, pushing the wheelbarrow. Seeing her expression, he couldn’t help but ask, “What were you two just talking about?”

Bai Zhi sighed. “The village chief said he has a sixteen-year-old grandson they’re trying to find a match for. He thinks I’d be a good fit and wants to arrange a meeting between me and his grandson.”

Hu Feng raised an eyebrow. He glanced at Bai Zhi, looking her up and down, then shook his head. “The village chief has terrible taste.”

Bai Zhi glared at him and touched her face. “What’s so terrible about it? You could say I’m a natural beauty, couldn’t you? So what if I look a little thin and short right now? I’m still young! I can still grow.” ‘I refuse to believe this small frame of mine will stay so tiny forever. I have to grow a bit taller, right?’

Hu Feng looked at her small, confident face. Her eyes were as bright as stars, her nose was delicate, her lips like cherries, and her skin fair. She was indeed much easier on the eyes than when he’d first met her. Back then, her face had been covered in bruises, making it impossible to see what she really looked like.

He didn’t have many memories of women’s faces, nor did he know what greater beauty might look like. But as far as he was concerned, Bai Zhi’s was the prettiest face he had ever seen.

“So, you agreed?” He asked it casually, as if it were an afterthought, but his eyes were fixed on her face. An inexplicable sense of urgency welled up inside him, and his heart began to beat faster.

Bai Zhi shrugged. “What’s it to you?” ‘He wants to know, but I’m not going to tell him. It’s his own fault for saying the village chief has bad taste.’

Hu Feng’s expression soured. With a grim face, he said, “You’re supposed to give me my acupuncture treatment today. Don’t forget.”

If he hadn’t mentioned it, she really might have forgotten. She’d had so much on her plate lately that she hadn’t been paying much attention to Hu Feng’s condition. ‘Perhaps it’s because I know his illness can’t be cured in a day or two, so I don’t feel that same sense of urgency.’

“Oh!” She felt a pang of guilt. ‘Hu Feng must be anxious, right? Anxious to get his memories back, but I’ve never truly made his situation a priority. I just give him a few needle treatments when I remember, brew him a couple doses of medicine when I have it on hand, and completely forget about him when I get busy.’

They walked the rest of the way in silence. Once they got home, Hu Feng went straight to his room, wearing a sullen expression as if the entire world owed him money and refused to pay up.

Hu Changlin helped Bai Zhi unload the wooden bucket from the cart. “What’s wrong with Hu Feng?” he asked. “He didn’t look too happy.”

Bai Zhi gave a hollow laugh. “It’s nothing. Isn’t he always like that?”

Hu Changlin just said, “Oh,” and didn’t press further. He knew his own son. Before Bai Zhi and Zhao Lan moved in, Hu Feng had indeed been just like this, walking around all day with a grim face as if everyone owed him money. But ever since Bai Zhi moved in, the house had gradually grown more lively. He no longer greeted people with such a cold expression. He talked more, would even smile occasionally, and became much more easygoing. It was like he had become a completely different person—much more approachable.

The way Hu Feng was acting today was clearly not normal. ‘Could it be that those two had a fight?’

After putting things away, Bai Zhi took her needle bag and went into Hu Feng’s room. As usual, he was sitting at the desk under the window, holding a tattered old book and staring at it intently.

Perhaps he was a little too focused, because he stared at the same page for a long time without turning it.

To break the awkward silence, Bai Zhi teased, “If you keep staring at it like that, you’re going to burn a hole right through the book.”

Hu Feng shot her a sideways glance, snapped the book shut with a loud SNAP, and said coolly, “What’s it to you?”
