Chapter 875: The Lord of the Sixth Island
When dealing with sly fellows, there are usually two approaches.
One is to be even slyer than them, which is the method Lin Yu typically used.
The other...
Is to display "brutality."
Just like right now.
After Lin Yu displayed absolute violence, not even leaving the other party a chance to escape, the scaled man had completely calmed down.
"Brother, you're here for our island lord, right? Her Excellency the Island Lord usually resides in that white building over in town... the one that looks like a church."
Lin Yu looked in the direction the scaled man was pointing. Amid the layers of dilapidated gray buildings, there indeed stood a pure white church atop a high slope in the distance.
Moreover, large swaths of flowers were planted beside the church, with continuous flower beds covering half the slope, blooming with bright yellow and vivid red blossoms. The two colors were distinctly separated, clearly the result of meticulous design.
The Lord of the Sixth Island indeed had some pursuit of aesthetics.
Lin Yu didn't doubt that this place was the Sixth Island Lord's residence, but after pulling his dagger from the ground, he still picked up the scaled man by the collar and flashed a smile.
"Friend, if I go to that white church and don't find the Island Lord there, I will definitely butcher you."
The other party nodded tremblingly. "No problem... Should I show you the way?"
"Of course not," Lin Yu said casually, patting his shoulder. "You can go now."
"I can go?"
The scaled man was quite surprised, a look of astonishment appearing on his face.
"But..."
He spoke hesitantly.
"Are you wondering if, after I let you go, you could have actually lied to me, but I wouldn't be able to find you?" Lin Yu leaned in closer, revealing a gentle smile. "But rest assured, friend, even if you hide in another world, I'll drag you out and mince you into meat paste."
"Of course, I'm actually a bit face-blind... I can't really distinguish you from your kin very well. So, if I find out you've been lying to me, I'll slaughter all your kin. Got it?"
With that, he patted the other's face, then straightened up, watching the look of "thank goodness I told the truth and didn't gamble on lying to him again" post-escape joy spread across the other's face. Such intense emotional fluctuations that couldn't possibly be faked were almost impossible to act out.
So, even without using the Three-Minute Lie Detector, Lin Yu could be certain the other party hadn't deceived him.
With this double-layer of insurance confirming his path, Lin Yu strode toward the church.
Passing through the layers of the town, Lin Yu sensed many gazes - gazes belonging to those scaled men.
However, no one came up to strike up a conversation with Lin Yu. Whether it was because these fellows wouldn't proactively lie in the first place, or because news of Lin Yu's fierce demeanor had spread quickly, he couldn't say.
Either way, he smoothly made his way through most of the town of Cassetti, slowly circling up the steps along the slope leading toward the church.
Although the entire town was run-down and aged, the streets were swept very clean, almost spotless.
Some buildings bore metal nameplates, the words on them clearly long since blurred and heavily corroded, yet they had also been cleaned of rust and polished to a bright shine.
The closer one got to the church, the more one could feel an orderly beauty.
Soon, Lin Yu arrived before the church - amidst the vast expanses of flowers, a straight path paved with white gravel extended all the way to the church's main entrance.
Lin Yu walked along the path to the door of the pure white, spired church that radiated a sacred aura, and gently knocked on the waxed golden-brown wooden door.
"Thump, thump!"
The wooden door let out a muffled sound.
Shortly after Lin Yu knocked, the door slowly opened.
Then, Lin Yu saw furnishings that truly resembled a church - five rows of long benches, a painted dome ceiling, wrought-iron candlesticks, and a spacious podium for announcements.
Except this church didn't have a cross displayed; instead, a ring hung at the far end.
Lin Yu stepped inside and spoke in a clear voice.
"Excuse me - is anyone here?"
As Lin Yu spoke, his voice echoed through the empty church.
After a long while...
A small door at the back of the church finally opened, and a calm female voice rang out.
"There is. Outsider."
From behind the door emerged a young woman clad in a linen robe, shining pure white all over, radiating brilliance - not as some metaphor, but literally.
Her blazing white hair was like strands of fluorescent silk, her white-gold eyes like twin bright lamps, and her fair skin was almost rendered translucent by the glow.
If there were such things as "Chosen Ones" or "perfect humans of the Golden Age," Lin Yu thought the young woman before him fit the definition perfectly.
She indeed matched people's traditional imaginings of the "holy one" and "angel."
Without a doubt, this was the Lord of the Sixth Island - besides her, there shouldn't be any being on the entire island with such high standing that Lin Yu could clearly sense their power.
Lin Yu watched this long-haired young woman with a serene expression yet an unmistakable "nobility" walk to the front of the podium, gazing at him from across the long aisle, and besides marveling at her holiness, he couldn't help but curse inwardly.
"How did she get blinded and fall for Old Zheng?"
And she didn't seem to show any signs of mental instability either - neither depressed nor manic.
But after all, this was the Misty Islands - although she resembled humans much more than most of the "mutated" residents of the Misty Islands, she was still a glowing new-energy person, not a true human.
Moreover, according to Old Zheng, she seemed to have come from some "ancient" ruin on the Misty Islands, crawled out of a life-support pod inside. Whether she'd undergone any super modifications before going in was unclear, so strictly speaking, she wasn't an ordinary human even by "Misty Islands" standards.
So, it was understandable that her depression and mania weren't prominently displayed.
At the same time, Lin Yu thought of another point...
"Old Zheng glows as a brain now, and this woman glows too. The two of them have pretty solid couple chemistry."
But this wasn't the time for idle speculation.
Lin Yu quickly focused on the glowing young woman and spoke politely as planned.
"Greetings, Your Excellency the Lord of the Sixth Island. I apologize for the presumptuous visit."
The other party gave a slight nod. "I noticed you... Outsider. You asked about my residence from those 'lie-lizard' transformed people in the town of Cassetti - what surprises me is that you actually managed to extract information about my residence from those creatures who 'can't control themselves and will lie.'"
"Although your methods were somewhat crude... impressive."
