Chapter 840: The Messenger of the End
Galli Thontas stared at the black book in his hands, feeling not even the slightest trace of mana fluctuation emanating from it.
He quickly realized what had happened - this thing was absolutely not the Book of Hell.
In fact, it was less like a book and more like a notebook!
Though it did carry some sort of mysterious sensation, it was entirely not a product of the Abyss.
This even... didn't seem like something from this world!
Had he been tricked?!
Why had it been so easy to deceive him - could it be that the other party possessed some means to interfere with his perception?
Being able to affect him with mental attacks, and him still being unable to figure out how the other party had done it even now, was simply too terrifying!
Most importantly, what was the other party's purpose in deceiving him?
Galli Thontas suddenly raised his head and looked at Lin Yu.
"What exactly are you trying to do?"
Seeing that Galli Thontas had finally lost his composed expression, Lin Yu revealed a gratified smile.
"I told you, I don't like the feeling of being watched - so, goodbye!"
The moment the words fell, Lin Yu's figure vanished, and simultaneously, the black notebook in Galli's hand also disappeared.
It was only then that Galli Thontas finally realized what Lin Yu had done.
The snake descendant beneath his feet had completely lost all signs of life.
Moreover...
Just as Galli Thontas still didn't know how he had been "interfered with," he couldn't even determine how this snake descendant had died.
There were no new external wounds - but the soul of this snake descendant had completely dissipated.
Within the husk of its body, no trace of a soul's existence could be found.
In Night Valley, where soul-related methods were highly valued, this was almost the cleanest, most impossible method for him to investigate or make use of the snake descendant.
"I really did underestimate that fellow. Schreiber... truly impressive!"
Galli Thontas sighed in admiration, but then, the woman's corpse hanging on the wall, whose innards had been hollowed out, suddenly spoke.
"Indeed impressive. Even you were led around by the nose by him... hehe, how amusing!"
Galli Thontas, who had remained relaxed even after being played by Lin Yu just moments ago, immediately became extremely vigilant upon hearing this voice.
He drew his revolver and aimed it at the woman's corpse on the wall, while simultaneously pulling a silver cross pendant from his chest and holding it up before him.
The woman looked at Galli Thontas and spoke again.
"Galli, Galli, the great Galli Thontas. It seems not everyone acts the way you expect them to - and you even upgraded his items for him for free. Hey, you're quite the charitable soul."
The woman's expression carried a hint of pity mixed with schadenfreude, and her tone was remarkably lively.
But... such expressions and words appearing on a corpse whose innards had been hollowed out were still enough to make one's skin crawl.
Galli ignored her sarcasm and spoke coldly.
"I was wondering why the Abyss aura here was still so dense. So aside from the Original Sin Wraith and the Third Pillar, you've come to join the fun as well!"
"The Second Pillar, Oakferst!"
The Second Pillar, instantly identified by Galli Thontas, was a great demon from the Abyss. It manipulated the woman's corpse to raise its head, a vivid expression forming on its face.
"If I hadn't come, I would have missed the spectacle of you being made a fool of... tsk tsk. If I hadn't witnessed this, I truly would have fallen into endless regret."
"Save your pointless mockery. I won't fall for your tricks - tell me, demon, why exactly have you come?!"
Galli Thontas's voice remained icy cold.
"Don't be so worked up. I truly just came to watch the show this time - that kid is far more interesting than you imagine."
Oakferst's words were laced with temptation.
"How about we make a deal, and I tell you his secrets?"
"Thanks, but I'll investigate his secrets myself."
Galli said coldly.
"This isn't our first time trading. Why be so resistant? Why not hear my offer first - I just need you to tell me the location of that little worm who recently fled into the Abyss."
As Oakferst spoke, Galli raised an eyebrow.
"Then you really should have helped me keep that kid here. If he hadn't killed that snake descendant, I could be locking onto Nitsanchi's location at any moment right now."
"Yes, it is a bit of a pity, but there's nothing to be done. After all, his identity is rather special," Oakferst said, then slowly continued, "However, I don't need anything too specific... just tell me the last direction you sensed him in within the Abyss. How about it?"
Galli pondered briefly, then nodded. "Deal."
Mana connected between the two, and an invisible temporary contract was formed in that instant.
"The last location where I sensed Nitsanchi and the Original Sin Wraith was to the north of the Dark Current waters in the Abyss, near the Fallen Eye."
Galli stated.
Oakferst then spoke as well: "That 'Schreiber,' according to my deductions, has a greater than ninety percent chance of being the inheritor of the 'Messenger of the End.'"
A look of shock appeared on Galli's face: "Your Abyss's 'Third Pillar'?"
"It's also your human realm's 'Sword of Judgment.'"
Galli added.
"That's not important. But wasn't that person already fallen?" Galli asked, puzzled. "How could an inheritor appear at this point?"
"But that kid indeed simultaneously holds the Golden Cross Medal issued by the Tribunal of Heresy and the Origin Magic Crystal of the Third Pillar. Combined, I'm already half certain," Oakferst said in a low voice. "And he can even tamper with contracts notarized by Pillar-level demons, making the contract unilateral and only binding on the other party even after it's been signed - this is also the main reason he was able to command the followers of that Original Sin Wraith."
"This technique, though you humans may not understand it as well as we Abyss demons do, you must have heard of it, right?"
Galli nodded solemnly.
"In that case... it's only reasonable that he was able to deceive me."
"However, this fellow's value far exceeds that of the Original Sin Wraith, even if you add the Book of Hell into the equation," Galli narrowed his eyes. "Aren't you worried that once I know this, I'll inform all the powerhouses on the human side?"
"Go ahead and tell them," Oakferst said. "That's exactly my purpose - one who is qualified to inherit the Messenger of the End's legacy will never bend to your will and do your bidding!"
"Your human arrogance will naturally make you pay the price."
Galli looked at Oakferst: "I, on the other hand, think that this time it will still be your Abyss that pays the greater price - just wait and see, demon!"
