Death… And Me

Chapter 4527: Just Do It

Chapter 4527: Just Do It

"Senior..." Back at Roan, Mario and Revana noticed that Roan was still going further into the Godly Creatures’ Territories. The farther they went, the more uneasy the couple became. "We don’t want to bother you, but aren’t we going too far? There are definitely Godly Horrors roaming this place, and if we keep going, we will definitely be caught by the Ghost of Woster."

Roan glanced at the two. "First of all, you have no need to worry about Godly Horrors. Secondly, I’m here for the ghost, so just sit there and let me do my thing."

"Wh-What?!" Mario and Revana were taken aback. "Bu-But..."

Roan cut them off. "If you don’t want it, I can simply leave you here. The only reason I haven’t done so is that I intend to let you out once we go back."

Revana couldn’t help but ask, "Does senior have some plans against the Ghost?"

"I have my ways," Roan confirmed.

"And what if it targets us instead?" Mario asked.

Roan looked at him. "Then I’ll see what I can do."

Mario felt like crying. That didn’t give him any confidence at all. If anything, it sounded like Roan was simply going to deal with whatever happened after it happened.

Normally, getting to where the so-called Ghost of Woster appeared would take several days. That’s just how big the Woster isolation area was. The distance between Dlaval City and the edge of the region alone was already enormous, and reaching the territory where cultivators feared going was an entirely different matter. However, the other airplanes that existed in Woster weren’t anywhere near as good, let alone as fast, as Rean’s.

Thanks to that, they got there in just a day.

Roan looked at the sky and the surroundings while inside the airplane. Everything had that deep Navy-Blue color. It was so intense that even Mario and Revana began to see it, albeit just slightly. The entire world seemed to have been covered by an enormous blue veil, although Roan could perceive it much more clearly than either of them.

The couple held each other, their bodies tense. They were ready to go for the hatch and flee straight away if things went south. They were hoping that the ’Law God’ senior, Roan, would be targeted by the ghost first because of his strength. Neither of them had any confidence in surviving an encounter with something capable of killing cultivators who ventured too far from Dlaval City.

Roan ignored the two, flying the airplane slowly. Now and then, Roan saw groups of Godly Creatures making their way into Woster, groups that varied in level. Just by their speed alone, Roan could tell if they were Godly Spawns or Godly Beasts. Their movements were remarkably direct, as though none of them had any interest in wandering around the outskirts.

The Godly Predators could often be found inside some of those groups. As for the Godly Horrors, those ones seemed to always move on their own. It wasn’t the absolute rule, but it was the most common sight when you spotted them. Their presence also made the atmosphere feel somewhat different, although Roan couldn’t tell whether that was simply because of their strength or if something else was involved.

’These Godly Creatures only walk in the direction of Woster’s center,’ Roan thought to himself. ’They never walk back. As Rean predicted, Woster is definitely accessible from outside for the Godly Creatures. It’s just leaving that is a problem.’

He continued to think. ’Or maybe going out is possible, but only for the Godly Creatures. However, Godly Creatures are naturally attracted to cultivators’ locations. Woster has no Sacred Relic, so their cultivators’ presence is likely very noticeable, even for Godly Creatures outside Woster. That said, they never try to go back to start with...’

Of course, the second part was only a theory. There was still too much information missing for Roan to draw a definite conclusion. All he could do for now was observe the behavior of the creatures and compare it with what they already knew about Woster.

As he flew, Roan made sure to avoid attracting the attention of the Godly Creatures. Even if the airplane emitted the presence of a Godly Creature instead of cultivators, other Godly Creatures could still attack it if they felt like doing so. There was no reason to assume that an airplane would be automatically ignored simply because its disguising methods were good.

However, Roan soon came to understand that the Godly Creatures wouldn’t attack him in this part of Woster. For some reason, the Godly Creatures passing here never stopped moving. They kept running into Woster as if their lives depended on it. Roan even felt like some of them were terrified of staying in this place. Their movements were too urgent to be considered normal.

The only ones calm were the Godly Predators and Godly Horrors, but even those never stopped for anything, making their way into Woster. They didn’t appear to be chasing anything or fleeing from an enemy. They simply continued forward, as though something inside Woster was pulling them toward its depths.

Mario and Revana felt more amazed by what they were seeing. They couldn’t understand why the Godly Creatures were ignoring Roan’s airplane. Of course, they were very happy that was the case and didn’t bother Roan either. They had no desire to discover what would happen if they attracted the attention of one of those creatures this far from Dlaval City.

Still, the strange thing so far was that the so-called Ghost still hadn’t made its appearance. They even began to wonder if the Ghost existed at all. Perhaps the stories were exaggerated. Perhaps the cultivators who disappeared had simply died to Godly Horrors or other dangers. Yet, neither of them dared to voice that possibility. After all, they had come this far precisely because Roan seemed to believe the Ghost was real.

"Hum?" Suddenly, Roan noticed something. The Navy-Blue Color was everywhere. However, just ahead, the Navy-Color environment seemed to get a lot thicker. It was as if an invisible boundary existed there, with the concentration of that strange color increasing dramatically beyond it.

Roan stopped the airplane, turning to Mario and Revana. "Can you see the difference ahead?"

The couple nodded. They had started to notice the navy-blue color for a while already. As mentioned, it just wasn’t as obvious as it was for Roan. Now, however, they could see that the environment just ahead had indeed made it a lot easier to see that color. Well... It was still nothing compared to what Roan could see because of his Echo.

Roan watched from above for a few minutes, and he saw that some Godly Creatures came from behind that veil of Navy-Blue Color ahead. Nothing seemed to be happening, though. The creatures emerged from the darker area and continued toward Woster as usual, without showing any signs of being attacked or affected.

’I guess I can only check it myself.’

Taking control of the airship again, Roan pressed forward to enter that veil. Mario and Revana braced themselves as well. Their hands unconsciously tightened around each other as they watched the strange boundary draw closer.

Finally, the airplane entered it...

*zlui, zlui, zlui, zlui, zlui...*

Out of nowhere, many strands of energy with the same navy-blue color began to appear all around Roan and the couple. They seemed to materialize from nothing, winding through the air and converging toward the airplane’s occupants.

"It’s the ghost!" Revana exclaimed.

It seemed like the airplane’s fuselage was meaningless. They passed through it just like ghosts indeed. No matter how thick the metal was or how many defensive arrays covered the airplane, the strands simply ignored everything in their path.

*Zush, zush, zush, zus, zush...*

Then, they attacked!

Mario and Revana tried to retaliate, but their attacks passed right through the strands. Their expressions changed immediately as they realized there was nothing they could do against something they couldn’t even properly touch. The strands immediately entered their bodies, and the couple’s faces began to change. It was obvious they were going through some excruciating pain.

Roan, however...

*Pin!*

[Warning! Attempt to extract the host’s soul detected.]

[Deploying countermeasures.]

[Threat neutralized.]

’Sure enough, it is the same thing as the pillars back in Dlaval City. It’s just that it isn’t as strong,’ Roan thought as he watched Mario and Revan’s struggle.

Back in Dlaval City, the pillars extracted the cultivators’ souls instantly. There was no pain. The body simply became an empty shell straightaway. Here, however, the strands of navy-blue energy seemed to take time to achieve that effect. It was much weaker than the power concentrated within the pillars.

’Just as I thought, the power at the pillars is several times stronger because they are the controlling beacons of the so-called Ghost of Woster. Since we are quite far away, their efficiency is pretty limited. Even these two Aura Gods are still resisting, even if they can’t move anymore.’

’Of course, once the strands of energy enter the body, the cultivators become paralyzed and can only suffer as their souls are extracted. The only difference is how long it takes to happen. These two won’t last much longer with their cultivators, though.’ Roan finished his conclusion.

The strands kept trying to enter Roan’s body, but now there seemed to be a barrier that completely protected Roan’s soul. They couldn’t even begin to approach it, let alone affect it. Roan approached the couple, touching their shoulders. ’Sister Orb, help these two as well.’

[That means I will have to channel our echo into their bodies. Also, if they survive, they will become witnesses to your immunity to the so-feared Ghost of Woster and the fact that you can make others immune too. Is that okay with you?]

’Yes,’ Roan didn’t think twice. ’Just do it.’
