Death… And Me

Chapter 4491: Weird Training

Chapter 4491: Weird Training

"The concentration of Godly Pressure, huh?" Rean pretended to be surprised, as if Haniala’s conclusion had only just occurred to him. "I guess we could give it a try indeed."

That raised another question, though, and Rean quickly turned his attention back to Coyui. "By the way, why doesn’t the Godly Pressure enter this vault? Is there something special about its construction?"

Coyui shrugged. "I’m not sure. I’ve heard of people trying to figure that out before. Some experts even believed the materials themselves were responsible, so they tried breaking apart the vault and moving sections of its walls somewhere else to test whether the Godly Pressure would be blocked. In the end, it didn’t work. The vaults only block the Godly Pressure while they remain in their original locations."

"I see..." Rean nodded thoughtfully.

For a moment, he had also considered that the materials might be responsible. However, if people had already tested that possibility and failed to reproduce the effect, then there was obviously something more to it. At the very least, the materials alone couldn’t explain the phenomenon. There was probably some other mechanism involved, perhaps one connected to the ancient construction of these vaults or even to the place itself.

Haniala looked at Rean. "Will it be okay if I just step outside the vault?"

Rean nodded. "It should be okay, and I’m going with you as well. I’ve already finished healing myself, so I should be able to resist the pressure for a while. Just keep an eye out, though. If you see those guys approaching again, ask Coyui to get you back inside immediately. My concealing array won’t be enough to hide us if they’re too close to you or me."

Haniala nodded seriously before looking around at the others. "Anyone else willing to give it a try?"

Arcis immediately raised his wing. "I’m going too. The possibility of becoming resistant to Godly Pressure is simply too good to let pass. If this really works, it could completely change our understanding of cultivation in Woster."

That was enough to convince most of the others. One by one, the group decided to follow Rean and Haniala outside. The only exception was Coyui, who remained inside the vault and shook his head.

"I have nothing to gain from this, so I’ll stay here," he said. "Just let me know if you start reaching your limits. I can drag you back inside if it becomes too difficult to resist the Godly Pressure."

Sison glanced at him. "That’s incredibly helpful of you."

"Hmph!" Coyui snorted. "You are my pass out of this place, so I can’t possibly let you die outside."

He didn’t bother hiding his true intentions. He definitely wasn’t helping them purely out of the goodness of his heart, and everyone knew it. As far as Coyui was concerned, the twins’ group represented his only chance of escaping Woster, so keeping them alive was directly connected to his own survival.

One by one, everyone stepped outside, staying relatively close to the vault’s entrance. Unfortunately, the distance didn’t make much difference. The instant they crossed the boundary, the terrifying Godly Pressure crashed down on them without mercy.

*Zush!*

Several of them collapsed almost immediately.

Even those who had been expecting it couldn’t prevent their bodies from being forced down. Their legs trembled violently, their muscles struggled to respond, and the immense pressure seemed to push directly against every part of their bodies at once. Within moments, none of them could move more than a few meters from the entrance before being forced onto their knees again.

"This shit is r-really complicated..." Arcis couldn’t help complaining as he struggled to keep his body upright.

"Will it really w-work?" Sison asked, his voice strained. He clearly had his doubts.

"No one knows," Roan answered honestly, but he looked a little better. "Coyui mentioned that babies need some time to adapt, but they can already move from the very beginning. We also need to remember that infancy is probably the best period for the body to adapt to its environment and learn how to deal with new conditions. Because of that, I don’t expect any of us to adapt faster than a baby would."

"Not necessarily," Rean countered, "we are starting from a much lower position than those babies."

"What d-do you mean?" Everyone asked Rean.

Rean took a moment to organize his thoughts.

"I’ll give you an example. Suppose you have to run one hundred kilometers, but every kilometer makes it harder and harder to continue. You’ll eventually reach the goal, but the closer you get to it, the longer it takes you to cover each additional kilometer because your body is becoming more exhausted."

He glanced around at the others to make sure they were following.

"Someone like Coyui has already crossed the one-hundred-kilometer mark. He’s basically reached the end of the process, which means the Godly Pressure barely affects him anymore. His strength isn’t weakened by it, and moving around under this pressure has become completely natural to him."

As Rean explained, he continued checking the pink faeries inside his body. They remained completely still, showing no reaction whatsoever. That was important because Rean was technically explaining a method related to adapting to Godly Pressure. However, he wasn’t revealing anything they hadn’t already discovered through their own observations. He was simply putting the information into an analogy that everyone could understand.

"Then you have the babies," Rean continued. "Coyui said they aren’t born completely immune to Godly Pressure. They can move around and grow normally, but they still experience some restrictions. In our analogy, we could say they are already born at around the eighty-kilometer mark. They only have another twenty kilometers to cover before reaching the same level as Coyui."

He then pointed toward himself and the others.

"What about us? We started at the very beginning. We’re at the zero-kilometer mark. Because we are starting from nothing, the initial adaptation might actually happen faster. However, the process should become increasingly difficult the more we adapt. Of course, this is only a theory. We don’t even know if our bodies can truly adapt just because the Godly Pressure here is so much stronger than what we’ve experienced before."

Thery thought carefully about Rean’s explanation.

"Rean’s theory makes sense. In fact, I think I can use it to deduce roughly how long it might take before we begin noticing the first signs of adaptation."

Everyone immediately turned their attention toward Thery, although most could barely move their heads enough to look at him. They definitely wanted to know how long they would need.
