Chapter 499: Chapter 222: Mist Beast Attack: Cracking the Traveling Palace (Part 2)

"Get closer! Junior Brother Ma, you guys move in too!"

Yu Zhenyang fell back from the front, signaling for his two junior brothers to tighten their formation.

"Eldest Senior Brother, isn’t this a bit too tight?"

Ma Wenbo hesitated. After all, they were in a Relic, and they had to be on guard against unknown Restrictions and traps.

"Third Junior Brother, watch out!"

Yu Zhenyang cried out a warning. He had seen a bloody dog head suddenly emerge from the mist behind Cao Mingjie.

"CRACK!"

The earthen-yellow ring of light instantly let out a crisp crack before shattering completely.

But thankfully, it bought them a moment. Coupled with Yu Zhenyang’s warning, Cao Mingjie managed to raise his Spirit Shield in front of him just in time.

"THUD!"

The dog’s head slammed into the Shield, knocking both Cao Mingjie and his Shield back three staggering steps.

The beast wasn’t unscathed, though; it froze in place for a second, stunned.

"Water-Pointing Sword Qi!"

Ma Wenbo, being the closest, seized the opportunity to draw his sword and counterattack. With a flick of his blade, a foot-long beam of Sword Light descended like a dragonfly skimming the water’s surface.

Unexpectedly, however...

The dazed dog head didn’t even try to dodge. It simply stood its ground, and its fur alone was enough to block the Sword Light.

"What!"

Ma Wenbo’s eyes went wide as he stared in disbelief at the massive dog head.

.

"BANG!"

A ball of ice crystals slammed into the dog’s head, shattering on impact and releasing a great cloud of frigid air.

It was a long-range Magic that Yu Zhenyang had specifically cultivated.

He hadn’t just shouted a warning; he had also cast the Magic to provide cover.

He was just a bit too far away, so it had arrived half a beat too late.

The spreading chill coated the nearby ground in a layer of white frost.

But the complete freeze he had expected to encase the dog’s head never happened.

In fact, the impact seemed to snap the Dog Demon out of its stupor, and it immediately pulled its head back into the white mist.

"This..."

Yu Zhenyang opened his mouth, but he didn’t know what to say.

’What a joke. This is definitely not the kind of Defense a Tier Three Demon Beast should possess.’

’There’s something wrong with this Relic!’

’Something seriously wrong!’

Neither of them had held back in their attacks.

They had used the Magic they were most familiar with, the ones they had achieved the greatest Mastery in.

Aside from their life-or-death trump cards, this was the maximum Combat Power they could muster under normal conditions.

And yet, they couldn’t even wound the bizarre Dog Demon. The gap in power between them was clearly immense.

Judging by the sounds coming from all directions, there were at least several dozen Demon Beasts here.

For now, the other Demon Beasts were busy hunting the Loose Cultivators. Only one that had misjudged the situation had blundered into them, giving them a slight reprieve.

But once the other Cultivators fell, they would likely face a siege from dozens of Demon Beasts at once.

That would be a dead end.

"Eldest Senior Brother, what do we do?"

Cao Mingjie’s face turned pale at the thought. "Shouldn’t we retreat first?"

This new Relic was clearly far too dangerous, well beyond their capabilities.

"No, it’s too late."

Ma Wenbo shook his head. "To get out from here will take at least three-quarters of an hour."

"These beasts intentionally waited for us to go deep before launching their attack."

They were already deep inside when that first Demon Beast had impatiently attacked; they never imagined so many more were still lying in ambush.

"We should push forward and get out of this area. An entire Relic can’t possibly be made of nothing but narrow paths."

Ma Wenbo’s eyes glinted. "If we can just find a side hall, or even a wide-open space, we can use an Array to set up a defense."

"Ordinary Magic Power isn’t enough. We need to set up a Killing Array to deal with a siege."

They had brought a Portable Array Plate, but it had to be set up in strict accordance with an Array Map, which was impossible on this narrow path.

Both of them turned to Yu Zhenyang, waiting for his decision.

"We... we..."

Yu Zhenyang knew perfectly well that time was precious; he had to decide on a course of action for the team immediately.

But the stakes were too high. His mind was in turmoil, and for a moment, he was at a complete loss.

In his mind, one wrong choice could lead to casualties or even the annihilation of the team.

Thus, he had to be cautious. "Mr. Qiu, what are your thoughts?"

Yu Zhenyang decided to consult the person with the highest Cultivation.

"Uh..."

Qiu Fanghui was also in a bit of a panic. After all, his specialty was using puppets to overwhelm his enemies with superior numbers.

But he only had four puppets, and there was no telling how many Demon Beasts lurked in the vast white mist. He couldn’t leverage his advantage at all.

"Um..."

Qiu Fanghui frowned, then simply turned and asked, "Golden Light Taoist, what do you think?"

"Wait, where is the Golden Light Taoist?"

Ma Wenbo froze at the question. "Wasn’t he in the middle of our group just a moment ago?"

He had been so focused on finding a way to survive that he hadn’t noticed.

"We’re doomed!"

Cao Mingjie immediately cried out, "Don’t tell me the Golden Light Taoist was snatched away!"

Yu Zhenyang was stunned. That seemed unlikely.

But how could a grown man just suddenly disappear?

"Run?"

Suddenly, a familiar voice came from not far away.

Then, they saw a figure emerge from the mist up ahead, carrying that familiar dog head.

A closer look revealed it was Xiao Chen.

"Golden Light Taoist?"

Yu Zhenyang’s eyes widened as he stared at the scene in disbelief.

’That Dog Demon from before... is dead?’

"Huh, how’d I end up in front of you guys?"

Xiao Chen seemed a little surprised himself. "It’s really hard to tell which way is which in this mist."
