Chapter 2684: Returning to Gaia’s Heaven(2)

Chapter 2684: Returning to Gaia’s Heaven(2)

Seeing the generals’ reactions, Supreme General Tian spoke. "Although things are looking grim, it could have been much worse."

"What could possibly be worse than this?!" Mei Feng exclaimed.

"Many things, actually. The other cities could have doubled down and demanded that Sergeant Yuan become independent. The situation could have easily escalated into war, especially with Ember City. Quite frankly, it’s a miracle we managed to return to the city safe and sound."

"With that said, it’s not as though we’ve completely avoided any of those possibilities. We all—well, most of us—agreed to postpone the matter until the next assembly, which has already been scheduled for two years from now."

"That doesn’t sound reassuring at all..." Mei Feng sighed.

"It wasn’t meant to reassure you," Supreme General Tian said, shaking his head.

"So, what are we going to do from now on? Prepare for war?" Mei Feng asked.

"As long as Sergeant Yuan remains the only person who possesses the Perfected Heavenly Refinement physique and the other cities want the Void Hunter eliminated, I don’t believe they’ll dare to attack us—especially after Sergeant Yuan made it clear that he would refuse to deal with the Void Hunter if anything happened to Gaia’s Heaven."

"What are the chances of Sergeant Yuan actually being able to defeat the Void Hunter?" Mei Feng suddenly asked.

"If we judge solely based on the footage I saw, then right now, he has no chance of defeating it. However, I’m well aware of his talent and how quickly he grows. If he continues progressing at this rate, there’s a very real possibility that he’ll become capable of defeating the Void Hunter in the future."

"Unfortunately, whether the other cities are capable of controlling themselves before then is very questionable."

After a brief pause, Supreme General Tian spoke. "Anyway, to answer your earlier question, our priority right now is to ensure Sergeant Yuan’s safety and help him grow stronger."

He then turned to General Gu and continued, "I’m willing to turn a blind eye to everything that has happened so far. But if you continue targeting him, you’ll have to answer to me—not as the Supreme General, but as the head of the Tian Family. Do I make myself clear?"

General Gu silently nodded in a daze, almost as though the gesture had been purely instinctive. Whether he had actually heard Supreme General Tian’s warning—or agreed with it—was another matter entirely.

A moment later, Supreme General Tian turned to Mei Feng and said, "Since you’ve been looking after him since the beginning, I’ll leave him in your care and let you continue overseeing his affairs."

Mei Feng shook her head and sighed.

"If you don’t want to deal with him, just say so... I know he can be a handful, but it’s really not that bad once you get used to it."

Supreme General Tian stood up and said one last thing before leaving. "For now, we’ll keep the situation under wraps. Once I’ve spoken with ’her’ and heard her thoughts on the matter, I’ll let you know the next steps. Dismissed."

Mei Feng did not linger, but before leaving, she glanced at General Gu and said, "As stubborn as you are, I doubt even you’d be foolish enough to keep going after him now."

General Gu remained seated in the room long after Supreme General Tian and Mei Feng left, a dazed look still lingering on his face.

"It’s over..." he mumbled in a defeated voice.

However, the next moment, the phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated with an incoming message.

The moment he read it, his eyes widened, and he hurriedly left the room.

Some time later, General Gu met up with Colonel Gu, who had sent him the message earlier.

"What happened to my little brother, Gu Ming?!" General Gu grabbed Colonel Gu by the collar and asked loudly.

"I don’t know what exactly happened to him, but he’s disappeared completely, and I am certain that bastard Sergeant Yuan had something to do with it!"

"Tell me everything that happened!"

Colonel Gu nodded and began explaining everything to General Gu, starting from when they hired the Angry Shadows to assassinate Yuan and ending with his own attempt to finish the job personally.

"After waiting for several hours, I eventually gave up and returned to my residence. But Gu Ming, who was still inside the house when I left, had vanished without a trace!"

"I don’t know how he did it, but that bastard must’ve snuck into our residence and done something to Gu Ming while I was waiting for his return!"

"..."

After a moment of silence, General Gu sighed. "And what exactly do you expect me to do? He now has the Supreme General’s backing. As powerful as our Gu Family may be, we are still beneath the Tian Family. Not to mention, the other cities will be keeping a close eye on him as well."

Colonel Gu fell silent for a moment, deep in thought, before his eyes suddenly flickered.

"Ember City! I’m sure you already know this, but they seem particularly eager to see that bastard dead. We can use their help to get rid of him!"

General Gu’s eyes also began flickering after hearing this.

’Now that I think about it, we have some connection in Ember City!’ he smiled inwardly after realizing this.

At the same time, Yuan entered Mei Feng’s office after being called by her.

"If you’re going to yell at me for—" Yuan spoke the moment he opened the door to her office.

"And waste my breath? I save it for next time," Mei Feng interrupted. "I want to know more about your training method and how you can grow stronger."

"Oh?" Yuan muttered with a somewhat surprised expression.

"Now that your existence has been exposed to the world, you can no longer live a normal life. And if you don’t want others controlling your fate, you’ll need to grow stronger—much stronger. Of course, this is also for this city’s sake. So tell me, how can we help you become stronger?" Mei Feng asked with a serious expression.
