Chapter 2664: Supreme General(2)
Chapter 2664: Supreme General(2)
"Anyway, although I would like to talk more, we need to set out for the assembly immediately, as we’re already running behind schedule. We’ll talk more during the journey," said the Supreme General before he turned to look at one of his soldiers and gave a silent nod.
The next moment, the soldier retrieved a palm-sized object and tossed it into the air.
Just as it reached the peak of its ascent, the object rapidly expanded, transforming into a full-sized ship roughly as large as two buses placed side by side.
The ship also did not descend and remained in the air, hovering in place.
’A flying treasure, huh?’ Yuan thought to himself.
This was his first time seeing one in this world, not including the flying hoverboards he’d seen before, since they were essentially flying swords in his eyes.
Without a word, the Supreme General and the others jumped aboard the flying treasure.
"You don’t look surprised at all, as if you’d seen it before," the Ironwoman remarked as she gazed at his face.
Flying treasures were exceedingly rare in this world and couldn’t be purchased with money, as they were considered property of the city itself.
Naturally, this meant that the flying treasure before them didn’t belong to the Supreme General personally; he had merely been granted permission to use it for the mission.
"Perhaps I have," Yuan responded with a smile before jumping onto it.
Once everyone was aboard the flying treasure, the controller activated it. However, instead of flying forward like an ordinary vessel, it tore open the void and entered directly into it, traveling through the void itself.
Yet, the flying treasure remained within the void for only a few seconds before returning to the surface. By the time it emerged, they were already several hundred miles beyond the city walls.
Yuan initially assumed the flying treasure needed some time to recover before it could enter the void again. However, it continued flying normally afterward without doing so.
"Is this flying treasure incapable of traveling through the void continuously? It would make traveling much faster if it could," he asked Ironwoman.
"Do you have any idea how much energy that consumes? We only use that function when entering or leaving the city, or in a life-or-death situation," Ironwoman replied.
"That sounds... a little strange. Why can’t it just fly in and out of the city normally?"
"Because this flying treasure has built-in functions that block all forms of surveillance. Unfortunately, those same functions also interfere with nearby signals, so flying it through the city normally would cause too much disruption. Also, it doesn’t use much energy to leave the city. Using it to travel to the assembly is an entirely different story."
Yuan looked around and then said, "Are we not worried about the Void Hunter? We have eleven people here, so there’s a chance for it to appear."
"Another special feature of this flying treasure is that it completely conceals our presence, so as far as the outside world is concerned, we essentially don’t exist. In other words, the Void Hunter won’t appear," she quickly explained.
"And how certain are you that it actually works that way, rather than simply having been lucky so far?"
"..."
The Ironwoman fell silent, as she was unable to answer his question with certainty.
"Don’t worry. The Void Hunter won’t appear. We’ve conducted extensive research on this, including tests with over a hundred people aboard for months at a time. If we combined the duration of every test we’ve conducted, it would amount to decades," the Supreme General suddenly said.
Yuan turned his head to see the Supreme General approaching them.
"Let’s continue our conversation, shall we?" he added.
"I wouldn’t consider that a conversation," Yuan remarked with a smile.
"Well, you’re not wrong. In any case, follow me. I have a few questions for you."
Without waiting for a response, the Supreme General turned around and walked toward the rear of the ship, where a single private room was located.
Yuan quietly followed him into the room.
Once inside, the Supreme General sat behind a small desk and gestured toward the seat across from him, where Yuan sat down.
However, even after several moments had passed, the Supreme General remained silent, merely staring at Yuan with an intense, unreadable gaze.
"So, what did you want to talk to me about?" Yuan asked, breaking the silence.
"I’ll get straight to the point..."
The Supreme General spoke in a cold, serious tone, his demeanor so different from before that he seemed like an entirely different person.
"Who are you? Where did you come from? And why are you in our city?"
Despite the sudden and drastic shift in the Supreme General, Yuan remained calm as he responded, "I don’t understand."
"Did you really think I wouldn’t look into your profile? Not only is your history completely blank until just a few months before you joined the military, but you even possess the Perfected Heavenly Refinement physique—something General Mei deliberately concealed from the military!"
The Supreme General continued, "I am also aware of your recent arrest and the reason behind it."
"Is it a crime to possess the Perfected Heavenly Refinement physique?" Yuan asked.
"No, but your existence is far too suspicious not to raise any alarms. I’ve lived for many, many years and seen countless things, yet none of them compare to the anomaly that is you."
"..."
Yuan fell silent as he contemplated how he should respond to the Supreme General.
The Supreme General realized this and did not rush him to answer.
After some consideration, Yuan responded, "To answer your questions... I am Yuan, and I am from another world. As for my purpose in this city... I wish to meet Gaia."
The Supreme General’s eyes widened, looking dazed by his response.
"You are from another world? Are you admitting to being a Celestial Being?" he then asked.
Yuan chuckled, "Me? A Celestial Being? Of course not. I am human."
