Chapter 2659: Assembly

Chapter 2659: Assembly

"I understand that you want him to form a connection with the Supreme General, but I still don’t think it’s a good idea to send a new soldier like him on a mission like this, especially when we’ll be meeting some of the highest-ranking individuals from the other militaries. Surely, there are other ways to introduce the two of them."

Ironwoman shook her head, worried that the other cities would look down on them for sending a mere Sergeant to such an important assembly.

Although Ironwoman herself wasn’t particularly high-ranking within the military, her prowess and reputation far surpassed those of even some of the highest-ranking soldiers in Gaia’s Heaven, so it made sense for her to participate in the assembly.

Yuan, however, was essentially an unknown soldier outside of their city. Even worse, he was currently suspected of being a Void Specter by another city, even being the reason the assembly was happening in the first place.

Rather than making the decision on her own, Mei Feng turned to look at Yuan and asked him, "What do you think? Do you want to go? I won’t force you if you refuse."

"Just to clarify, you want me to escort the Supreme General to this assembly, where they’ll likely talk about me being a Void Specter, and try to convince them that I am actually a human?" Yuan asked for clarification.

"Indeed." Mei Feng nodded.

"What if I fail to convince them and do the opposite?" Yuan then asked.

"..."

After a moment of silence, Mei Feng responded, "If you fail to convince them that you’re human—or somehow make the situation even worse—you could end up becoming an enemy of every other city. Hell, there’s even a chance you might be exiled from this city."

"Exile, huh? That sounds fun," Yuan calmly remarked with a smile on his face.

"Anyway, I want to go to this assembly. It sounds too fun to miss," he then said.

"Then I’ll put your name on the list. Also, it won’t just be the two of you, as General Gu will also send two of his own soldiers. Of course, there’s also the Ninth Division, who answers only to the Supreme General."

After a brief pause, Mei Feng continued, "The assembly will happen next month, but since it won’t take place in any city, you won’t be able to teleport there."

"One last thing... Although it’s unlikely General Gu’s soldiers will try to do anything funny in the Supreme General’s presence, it’s not guaranteed, so stay alert," Mei Feng said, warning Yuan.

"I will keep that in mind."

"You’ll start your journey in three days, so do whatever you need until then. That’s all."

Yuan left the office shortly after, leaving Ironwoman behind.

"I don’t really have much to say to you. Just keep an eye out for him," Mei Feng said to Ironwoman after Yuan left.

The Ironwoman nodded before asking, "What did you think of the drill? About his performance? I didn’t have the luxury to pay attention during, but I’ll definitely watch the recording later."

"Hard to say. I don’t know if I should be happy or disappointed."

"Huh? Why would you be disappointed?" Ironwoman inquired, raising an eyebrow.

"Because it didn’t seem like he was giving it his all during the drill." Mei Feng sighed.

"On one hand, I’m glad he managed to become the last survivor. On the other hand, I was hoping to see him do much more."

"He probably didn’t want to attract any more attention than he already had, especially with the entire military watching."

"I know, but I really want to see him go all out—to see what he’s truly capable of."

"Give him a little more time. Knowing his character and arrogance, he’ll definitely show it to us in the near future."

The Ironwoman left shortly after, but when she went outside, she noticed that Yuan hadn’t completely left.

"You said you’d show me where I can increase my credential rank, so I waited for you," said Yuan when he saw her coming out.

Ironwoman nodded and said, "Follow me."

Some time later, they entered a building Yuan had never been to before.

"Just tell them you’re here to see if you qualify for a credential upgrade."

"Okay."

Yuan approached the front desk and asked, "I’m here to see if I qualify for a credential upgrade."

The worker then gestured toward the usual machine before Yuan.

Yuan placed his hand in the machine and allowed it to consume a drop of his blood.

A moment later, the worker’s expression changed drastically, causing Yuan to raise an eyebrow.

"P-Please wait a moment..."

Without any explanation, the worker stood up and rushed into the room in the back.

"What happened?"

The Ironwoman approached Yuan and asked after seeing this unusual response.

"I don’t know."

Several minutes passed without any sign of the worker.

Suddenly, Yuan noticed a group of soldiers wearing uniforms different from those he was accustomed to entering the building.

These soldiers walked straight to Yuan and said to him, "Sergeant Yuan, you’re currently under arrest. Please do not resist and come with us peacefully."

Yuan raised an eyebrow at this unexpected situation, but before he could even say anything, the Ironwoman stepped forward and asked, "What the hell is going on? Why is he being arrested?"

The soldiers looked at her and responded, "Sorry, but even we don’t know the details."

Ironwoman frowned upon hearing this. Whatever was happening must be incredibly serious if even the military police didn’t know the details.

She turned to Yuan and said, "Just go with them for now and find out what this is about. I’ll speak with General Mei first, then come find you."

"Okay." Yuan nodded, then calmly followed the military police away.

Meanwhile, Ironwoman rushed back to General Mei’s office and informed her of the situation.

Mei Feng immediately rose from her seat upon hearing the news, disbelief written across her face.

"There’s no way an arrest order could’ve been issued for him without me knowing about it!" she exclaimed.
