Chapter 2627: Elite Void Specter(3)
Chapter 2627: Elite Void Specter(3)
Once the Elite Void Specters noticed their presence, one of them charged at Yuan while the other three made their way towards the Scorpion Squad behind him.
Even though Yuan said he’d take care of two of them, he completely ignored it and focused on the Elite Void Specter before him.
Of course, if he wanted to, Yuan could easily defeat the Elite Void Specter in a split second, but he purposefully took his time with it.
Meanwhile, the Scorpion Squad began to panic as they found themselves facing three Elite Void Specters at once.
With only five members, they were forced to split into three groups, with Captain Chen taking on one of the Elite Void Specters by himself while the remaining four paired up against the other two.
Although Captain Chen was the strongest member of the squad, even he knew that defeating an Elite Void Specter alone was beyond him. His only option was to stall for time until the others could come to his aid.
With all of his attention focused on surviving, he had no room to spare for Yuan, who was essentially pretending to struggle against his own Elite Void Specter.
A full minute later, Yuan defeated his Elite Void Specter and went to assist Captain Chen.
"What took you so long?!" Captain Chen shouted at Yuan, his forehead bulging with veins.
"That Void Specter was much stronger than the previous ones I fought," Yuan calmly responded before defeating the one before him in less than a second, which only enraged Captain Chen even more when he saw this.
But before Captain Chen could even say anything, Yuan left to assist the others.
In the end, nobody died, but the Scorpion Squad definitely received a scare.
Once all of the Elite Void Specters were defeated, the Scorpion Squad surrounded Yuan and screamed at him.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?! WERE YOU TRYING TO GET ALL OF US KILLED?!" Captain Dung roared, the veins in his neck bulging with rage.
"I told you we should’ve taken another path! Why did you ignore my order and rush in?! That could’ve ended badly for all of us!"
Despite their anger, Yuan remained remarkably calm.
After a moment, he looked at them with genuine confusion and asked, "I don’t understand. Why are you so upset? Sure, those Void Specters were stronger than expected, but why did you struggle so much against them? I thought all of you were strong enough to handle them yourselves."
"That wasn’t any ordinary Void Specter, but an Elite Void Specter! They’re not something one can defeat alone!"
"Elite Void Specter? This is new information for me," Yuan said before questioning, "If they were so dangerous, why’d you let me fight them alone?"
"They may be dangerous, but they’re still weaker than a Void Guardian. Since you’ve claimed that you can defeat a Void Guardian by yourself, we weren’t worried about you losing to a single Elite Void Specter. Even if you couldn’t defeat it, the rest of us could handle one together. What we can’t handle is several of them at once. What you did was incredibly reckless and foolish!"
"Is that so? I’ll keep that in mind," Yuan said with a nod. "But you can’t expect me to know something if you never explain it beforehand. Also, if there’s something you can’t handle, you should tell me in advance. That way, I won’t recklessly put myself in another situation where you won’t be able to protect me if things go wrong."
Although Captain Chen wanted to punish Yuan for his actions, he had no real justification for doing so. After all, they had deliberately withheld information about the Elite Void Specters from him, giving Yuan the perfect excuse to claim that he simply hadn’t known any better.
"Anyway, let’s continue." Yuan turned around and started venturing deeper into the tunnel.
’That bastard must’ve done that on purpose!’ Captain Dung suspected.
’Unless he knows our true objective, he has no reason to do such a thing,’ said Captain Chen.
’What if he knows?’ another officer asked.
’Even if he knows, there’s nothing he can really do about it. Not only does he lack proof, but it’s not like he can kill us, either.’
’The real question is... how the hell are we supposed to kill him and make it look like an accident now? He can defeat four Elite Void Specters by himself...’ someone asked.
’Damn it... I don’t understand how he’s doing it! How the hell is he defeating these Void Specters so easily when his cultivation is far lower than ours?! It makes no sense!’
’Right?! I’ve been watching him closely this entire time, and the amount of Limitless he uses isn’t anything extraordinary! He must possess some kind of technique that allows him to draw out the hidden power of Limitless, just like Tian Yuchen!’
’If that’s the case, we must acquire that technique before we kill him!’
’And how do you intend to do that when we’re not even sure we can kill him without touching him?!’
The Scorpion Squad argued with each other while Yuan continued to clear the tunnel alone.
Eventually, they arrived at the end of the tunnel.
"What are you waiting for?" Captain Dung asked when Yuan stood at the edge of the hole without moving for a long time.
"Don’t tell me you’re getting cold feet because you can’t actually defeat a Void Guardian by yourself?" Another member said in a somewhat mocking tone.
Yuan, who had been staring at the hole, turned around and spoke with a calm smile, "As if."
Then, without another word, jumped into the hole.
Seeing this, the members of Scorpion Squad gave each other a quick glance before following Yuan down the hole.
A few minutes later, they arrived at the chamber with the Void Guardian.
However, their eyes widened with shock the very next moment.
"T-Two... There are two Void Guardians?!"
Captain Chen exclaimed in shock when he saw two massive silhouettes standing beside each other.
