Chapter 2578: Military Recruitment
"If you’re not going to tell me anything about Gaia, can you at least tell me what Credential Rank I need to acquire to learn about them?" Yuan then asked.
"Why do you even want to know about Gaia? Aren’t you from another world?" Mei Feng replied.
"I need to meet them," said Yuan, but he didn’t elaborate.
"You want to meet...with Gaia?" Mei Feng raised her eyebrows, looking surprised.
"Are you going to tell me that it’s not possible because nobody has ever seen them before?" Yuan sighed.
"What are you talking about? Gaia is very much real, and I have even personally met h—" Mei Feng abruptly stopped herself, even putting her hands over her mouth.
’Damn! I nearly revealed top secret information to a civilian!’ she cried inwardly.
"I’m done with this topic," she quickly said. "Any other questions?"
Yuan pondered for a moment before asking, "Then do you know about Tian Yuchen?"
"Tian Yuchen? The legendary cultivator from 2,000 years ago?"
He nodded.
"I know that he’s renowned for his cultivation and Endless Assault achievement in Gaia’s Sanctum, but that’s pretty much it. Why are you suddenly asking about him?"
"Because I saw him on the Endless Assault ranking and got curious."
"Well, if you want to learn more about him, you can visit the library after you join the military. We have access to things that the rest of the world isn’t privy to," said Mei Feng.
"Actually..." Yuan then said, "While we’re on this topic, why is the military hiding so much from the civilians?"
"This is just how things work around here," Mei Feng said, shrugging and showing no desire to elaborate further.
"Alright. That’s all I want to ask."
Of course, he still had a lot of questions, but he had a feeling that Mei Feng would simply refuse to answer or give him vague responses.
’If she’s anything like the Meifeng I know, it’ll be virtually impossible to get any information that she doesn’t want to reveal out of her.’
Some time later, Mei Feng brought Yuan and Mei Xiaoyun to the recruitment area.
Although several days remained before the recruitment was scheduled to begin, a massive crowd had already gathered at the recruitment area.
At a glance, there were at least a hundred thousand people present. Most of them were young men and women, with only a small portion appearing older.
"Want to join the military with me?" Yuan suddenly turned to ask Mei Xiaoyun in a half-joking and half-serious tone.
She immediately sneered, "If I wanted to join the military, I would’ve done so ages ago."
Suddenly, Mei Feng’s voice resounded in Yuan’s head as she spoke to him using voice transmission, ’If you can convince my daughter to join the military, I’ll give you a reward.’
Yuan raised an eyebrow at such a random request, but before he could respond, Mei Feng said, "I have somewhere to be, so I will be taking my leave now. Good luck...not that you need it."
She turned around and quickly vanished into the distance.
Once Mei Feng was gone, Yuan turned to ask Mei Xiaoyun, "If you don’t mind me asking, why do you seem to hate the military so much? Is it related to your grudge for your mother?"
"Why are you suddenly being so nosy?" Mei Xiaoyun glared at him with narrowed eyes.
Yuan smiled and said, "Believe it or not, I know someone in my world who looks exactly like you and your mother. Coincidentally, they are also mother and daughter. And since I am very closely related to them, I cannot help but be curious about your relationship with your mother and if there’s anything that can be done to fix it."
"There’s nothing to fix," Mei Xiaoyun said. "And my reason for disliking my mother and the military is very simple, too. I was neglected as a child, with the root cause being her job in the military."
"You should be more honest with yourself," Yuan suddenly said.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Mei Xiaoyun frowned.
Yuan chuckled and said, "You may be able to fool yourself, but you cannot fool my eyes. Whenever you look at your mother, there is clear admiration in your gaze. If you ask me, I think you actually admire her."
"T-That’s absurd!"
"You followed us because you wanted to spend more time with your mother, right? I think there is a better way to do that—and that is to join the military. Not only would it make seeing your mother easier, but you would also be able to talk about things you normally cannot."
"Your mother is quite similar to the person I know in my world. If that is the case, then I am willing to bet that she actually wants to talk to you, but simply does not know what to talk about. After all, she cannot disclose anything military-related to you, even if you are her daughter."
Mei Xiaoyun stared at him with her mouth slightly opened, a stunned expression on her face.
After a moment of silence, she responded in a nervous voice, "S-Shut up! Don’t speak as if you know everything about me or my mother when we’re basically still strangers!"
Yuan did not give up and said, "How about this? If you join the military with me, I will..."
Yuan continued his sentence using voice transmission, "I will teach you how I acquired the Perfected Heavenly Refinement physique. Hell, I will even train you."
"I don’t need your training," she sneered.
Despite saying that, she was enticed by his offer. After all, in less than half a year, Yuan had somehow managed to catch up with her cultivation. Of course, there was also his Perfected Heavenly Temperament physique.
"Take some time to think it over," said Yuan before falling silent and waiting for the recruitment to begin.
Two days later, several people in military uniforms appeared in the area, their presence instantly silencing the entire area.
