Cultivating in the Wizard World

Chapter 636 - 540: Follow-up

Chapter 636: Chapter 540: Follow-up

In the study of the City Lord’s Mansion, Jeming was immersed in a sea of knowledge.

A dozen memory crystals floated around him, each emitting a different colored glow.

Jeming’s spiritual power extended like countless tentacles, simultaneously probing these crystals, greedily absorbing the knowledge within.

This was his twenty-seventh year in the realm of Ayers.

Twenty-seven years, enough time for a generation to grow from birth to adulthood for ordinary people.

But for a wizard, it was just a small interlude in a long life.

During a break, Jeming opened his eyes and glanced out the window.

The newly built City Lord’s Mansion sat in the center of the city, replacing the once gray and black Divine Hall.

From the window, one could see neat streets, scattered houses, and new communities under construction in the distance.

Twenty-seven years ago, this land was shrouded by arrays of stimulation and cognitive modification.

Twenty-seven years later, those arrays had long been dismantled, replaced by aptitude detection arrays and ecological regulation systems, designed by Jeming himself.

He withdrew his gaze and was about to continue studying the memory crystals in his hand when a wave of energy suddenly emanated from the doorway.

"Come in."

Jeming looked up.

David’s figure appeared at the door, road-weary, with residual spatial ripples from realm traversal still about him.

"Back already?" Jeming set down the crystal.

David nodded, walked into the study, and sat opposite Jeming.

He slouched back into his chair, his expression relaxed as he let out a breath.

"How was it?" Jeming asked, "I remember you previously went to investigate those surrounding resource realms."

David shook his head, a hint of helplessness on his face.

"Nothing much to say," he said, "The Chaos Secret Sect conducted destructive mining before they left. Any remotely valuable resources and realm origin were looted clean."

He paused and added, "Only some common mineral resources and biomass remain. It’s not technically a waste realm, but it’s close enough."

Upon hearing this, Jeming chuckled indifferently.

"Looks like the Chaos Secret Sect was quite unwilling to accept defeat back then."

David also laughed, but there was a tinge of bitterness in his smile: "Would you accept it? Not only did they lose, but they’d have to spit out what they’d eaten. It’d be stranger if they didn’t cause some damage before leaving... though it’s a huge hassle for us working wizards, I was almost worn out just collecting those remnants."

Jeming nodded without speaking.

The study was silent for a few seconds.

David suddenly spoke: "By the way, the workshop asked us to tally every remaining realm, even the abandoned ones. Not sure why."

Upon hearing this, Jeming chuckled.

He certainly knew why.

Because of Starfall.

Or more precisely, because of the Enlightenment Technique she developed.

The Enlightenment Technique can transform realms into living planes, thus even abandoned realms can greatly increase in value.

It’s worth noting that prior to this, the ultimate destiny of all abandoned realms was mostly limited to transformation into ship planes, or serving as experimental grounds for destructive witchcraft.

Of course, some were used as large warehouses, but beyond that had little use.

But Starfall Wizard’s Enlightenment Technique allowed these abandoned realms to become superpowers capable of turning the tide of battle, essentially revitalizing their value significantly.

Honestly, from the perspective of the entire Wizard Plane, it’s hard to determine whether the value of providing super combat power is greater than that of bringing dormant resources to life.

But there’s no doubt that Starfall’s Enlightenment Technique truly turned these abandoned realms into treasures.

Though, not many know of this yet.

Outsiders only know Starfall received a First Level development agreement, but details about the Enlightenment Technique remain relatively confidential.

Besides participants like Jeming, probably only Seventh Level or higher wizards can know the truth.

Even so, based on the information Jeming has, the purchase prices of abandoned realms within the Wizard Civilization have steadily risen over the years.

Jeming withdrew his thoughts and looked at David.

David was watching him, his gaze probing: "Do you know something?"

Jeming smiled, not answering directly: "When the information is released from above, you’ll know. In any case, tallying the realms isn’t a wasted effort."

David raised an eyebrow but didn’t pursue the question.

After a few more words, David suddenly remembered something and asked, "What’s the situation with the populace of this realm?"

Jeming raised his hand, summoned a record crystal, and handed it to David.

"The aptitude detection array is set up," he said, "The ecological environment transformation is nearing completion."

David accepted the crystal, his spiritual power probing it, a satisfied expression appearing on his face.

"How about the cognitive shift work?"

Jeming replied slowly: "Some elders and certain individuals can’t adjust. They are too accustomed to their way of life to change."

He looked out the window: "But the most recent generations have gradually moved away from the previous conditions. Once the older generation passes away and the new generation fully matures, things will improve significantly."

David nodded, remaining silent for a while.

"Then the next step is to establish the basic education and medical systems."

Jeming said: "I’ve already applied to the workshop for the Artificial People Manufacturing System. It should be delivered in a while."

He stroked his chin and added: "Then we can deploy artificial people on a large scale for education and basic medical care."

Upon hearing this, David’s expression relaxed.

"That’s excellent," he said, "Once it’s fully rolled out, we can proceed with aptitude transformation. It seems everything’s going smoothly, next, we’ll just need to patiently wait for time to work its magic."

Jeming smiled and nodded.

Silence fell over the study again.

The sunlight streaming through the windows cast dappled shadows on the floor.

In the distance, faint construction sounds could be heard from residents building their new homes.

However, this time it wasn’t reconstruction, but outward expansion.

David stood up, tidied his wizard robe.

"I should be going," he said, "I’ve got to submit the report and return for orders."

Jeming also stood, ready to see him off.

David walked to the door but suddenly paused and turned around.

"Jeming."

"Hmm?"

David looked at him seriously: "Thank you for staying in this realm for follow-up tracking."

Jeming was taken aback.

David continued: "You’ve been here for over a decade. After completing their tasks, others could immediately move to other planes for new missions, or return to their laboratories for research. Yet only you have been here from start to finish."

Jeming chuckled and shook his head: "No need to thank me. I mainly want to acquire knowledge during these years, it makes little difference where I am."

Yet David insisted: "Still, thank you. Somebody needed to stay for these logistical tracking tasks."

He paused: "But in a few years, a new batch of wizards should return from the battlefield. By then, there should be plenty of wizards to take over your duties."

Jeming nodded: "That’ll be good, too."

They exchanged a glance and smiled.

David turned and walked towards the Teleportation Array.

Jeming stood at the study door, watching his figure disappear at the end of the street.

Then he turned back into the study, returned to his desk.

The dozen memory crystals continued to hover in the air, quietly awaiting their master’s return.

Jeming reached out, spiritual power once again exploring within them.
