Chapter 618 - 525: Reunion
Chapter 618: Chapter 525: Reunion
The dark golden stream of light kept twisting and turning within the shattered void.
Jeming changed directions three times in a row, then hid in a massive crack on the ground for a while.
After confirming there were no traces of pursuit, Jeming slowly withdrew from the Light Divinity Transformation.
Feeling a bit fatigued, he shook his head and restrained his aura before silently flying towards the predetermined coordinates.
This was a natural shelter hidden between two giant gray-white rock remnants, and seemingly due to its location at the border of planes, the space was quite unstable, making it an area with little strategic value.
As soon as Jeming stepped onto the relatively flat surface of one of the remnants, the air beside him rippled like the surface of stirred water.
Blake’s slightly pale face "emerged" from the void, his deep purple eyes noticeably brightening as soon as he saw Jeming.
He then let out a long breath, as though releasing a heavy burden.
"Whew... that scared me," his voice carried a hint of relief after the ordeal, as he looked Jeming up and down, "luckily you’re okay. After I received your message to retreat first, I ran all the way. Later, there was such a commotion from that way, it almost stopped my heart."
He paused, patting his chest firmly.
Jeming nodded slightly, acknowledging the concern.
He had now emerged from the Light Divinity Transformation, returning to his normal flesh and blood state. While his robe was tattered in many places, he bore no visible injuries, only appearing slightly paler than before.
This was because his body had undergone multiple rounds of fragmentation and reshaping, ultimately resulting in this appearance.
Blake’s gaze lingered on the damage to Jeming’s robe for a moment, a flicker of surprise in his eyes, but wisely refrained from asking for details.
He then looked around, frowning slightly with curiosity:
"By the way, where’s Augusta? Didn’t she return with you?"
Jeming looked up at him.
Blake explained, "I ran into her on the way out, she heard you went alone in that direction, immediately turned around and rushed over... I thought you’d return together."
So that’s how it was.
Jeming understood.
No wonder Augusta appeared at that critical moment—not by happenstance, but specifically because Blake had informed her to come and support.
"She should be arriving soon," Jeming said, rubbing his forehead as he sensed the lingering fatigue from the Light Divinity Transformation slowly dissipating, "I took a few detours to ensure there were no tails, which delayed me a bit. And she would likely move cautiously along the way, so it’s normal for her to be a bit slower."
Blake acknowledged with a nod, not asking further, turning instead to more pressing matters: "What about the results of our recon in that region?"
"It’s bait," Jeming’s tone was calm, "obviously, it was a trap set by the Alliance Army."
"Though we made a lot of noise, from the beginning to the end, there were only preset sentries and an ambush squad, no additional reinforcements until after the battle concluded. Only then did other Wizards from the Alliance Army arrive from afar. If it were a true core node, it couldn’t possibly have such minimal defense."
Blake listened without much disappointment, just nodding, as if it was expected: "Alright, ruling out a high-risk coordinate is also a gain. At least next time we don’t have to venture that way for reconnaissance."
He paused, still unable to resist tentatively asking, "And... how strong were those ambushing Wizards?"
Jeming was silent for a moment.
"... very strong," he replied succinctly, but Blake could detect the weight in those words. "Fortunately, Augusta arrived in time, buying me the crucial moments needed to escape."
He didn’t elaborate, and Blake wisely didn’t press further.
After all, in certain situations, battle techniques are considered important intelligence for a Wizard.
Blake patted his chest once more, this time more forcefully, still looking a bit shaken: "Good thing, good thing... Take it easy next time, those deep-foray reconnaissance bait missions are enough, don’t keep putting yourself in dire straits."
Jeming did not contradict, merely responding with a gentle "mm", acknowledging it.
Before they could finish speaking, Blake’s previously relaxed expression suddenly froze.
A hint of deep violet light flickered in his eyes, and like an alert hunting dog, he sharply turned his gaze towards a distant spot on the ground.
Jeming followed his line of sight, soon sensing a familiar magnetic field fluctuation through the Cause and Effect Tracing Technique.
"Relax, it’s her," Jeming said, pressing a hand on Blake’s shoulder.
Blake’s tense shoulders finally relaxed, but he remained on alert, stepping back slightly to make room.
A moment later, the soil before them parted silently like a living entity, revealing a tall figure emerging gracefully from the ground, not stirring a speck of dust.
It was Augusta.
She had changed back into her close-fitting dark purple combat suit, her formidable silver-blue battle armor from the battlefield nowhere to be found.
Clearly, with her strategic mind, she wouldn’t parade around in such conspicuous gear while retreating.
The previous highly conspicuous method of evacuation, akin to a cannonball, was actually a tactic to attract the enemy’s attention.
A wizard who can independently earn the title of "God of War" behind enemy lines is no stranger to the concept of "keeping a low profile."
She lifted her eyes, her black pupils first scanning over Blake, then landing on Jeming, her chin slightly raised, still bearing that familiar, somewhat proud demeanor.
Jeming didn’t mind her posture, stepping forward with an earnest voice:
"Earlier, thank you."
Augusta’s eyelashes trembled almost imperceptibly, but quickly returned to normal.
"Thank you for what, it was just a simple task."
Her tone was understated, as if unleashing the "Annihilation Judgment" with plasma torrents a thousand times the speed of sound against a Sixth Level Wizard was indeed just a simple action.
Jeming did not engage in polite back-and-forth with her, he stated directly:
"Following the principle of equivalent exchange, I will allocate all the military merits from this mission to you."
Augusta raised an eyebrow slightly.
"Of course, this is also to express my gratitude," Jeming added, his tone calm but his gaze sincere.
This is indeed how Jeming felt; after all, if Augusta hadn’t arrived in time, his situation would have turned dangerous.
He would either risk performing a Light Transformation to escape, with unsure outcomes, or hold out until the opponent’s reinforcements arrived, which would be a certain death.
It was Augusta who came over to buy him some time, giving him a third option.
She gazed at Jeming, a trace of extremely complex emotions flashed deep within her purple pupils—astonishment, reflection, and a hint of release that she herself was unaware of.
After a two-second silence.
"As you please," she tossed her sleek black hair, turned her face away, her tone returning to that indifferent arrogance, "After all, the intelligence of a Sixth Level Wizard is worth quite a reward, I don’t mind receiving more military merits."
She said this while taking out a small, silver-blue luminous metal chip from the inside of her combat uniform, casually tossing it to Jeming.
Jeming caught it.
The chip felt slightly cool to the touch, its surface engraved with extremely intricate and complex encrypted Runes—a format recognized by personal communication terminals.
"My communication code." Augusta had already turned away from him, her voice devoid of emotion, "Next time you encounter such a deadlock, remember to send a message in advance. I might not always have a ’simple’ opportunity... of course, I expect my reward!"
She finished speaking, and without waiting for Jeming’s response, a faint magnetic field ripple arose around her once again.
The ground parted to the sides like water waves, her form swiftly sinking and dissolving, in the blink of an eye fully merging into the earth, leaving no trace behind.
Even her evacuation was so neat and tidy, not giving the other party any chance for polite retention.
It wasn’t until Augusta’s presence completely disappeared beyond the range of perception that Blake, who had been shrinking in a corner trying hard to reduce his presence, finally exhaled a long breath, as if releasing from some invisible restraint.
"Whew..." He wiped the non-existent cold sweat from his forehead and muttered softly, "No wonder she’s the eldest daughter of the Augusta Family, this aura is exactly the same as it was back at the academy. No, it’s even more intimidating..."
Saying so, his expression suddenly froze.
His deep purple eyes blinked blankly at first, then his pupils slowly dilated at a visibly discernible pace.
"...Wait a minute." Blake’s voice seemed to float, "Augusta just said... you encountered a Sixth Level Wizard?"
Jeming looked at him, not answering immediately.
"And then..." Blake swallowed hard, "You... came back alive?"
Jeming blinked again, his expression innocent: "Didn’t I tell you?"
"You said nothing!" Blake nearly blurted out, his voice cracking, "You only said ’The enemy was very strong, thanks to Augusta’s support I got away!’ This ’very strong’ was a Sixth Level Wizard?!"
He grew more agitated as he spoke, gesturing wildly.
"And that was a Sixth Level Wizard! Not some small fry on the roadside! You not only encountered one but came back alive, and even have the leisure to summarize the mission results with me here?!"
Jeming thought for a moment, explained seriously: "I thought you knew. The commotion on our side wasn’t small."
"The commotion was indeed not small! I thought Augusta was smashing meteors!" Blake lamented mixed with indignation, "Who knew you were in a face-to-face brawl with a Sixth Level Wizard!"
He rubbed his face hard, trying to calm himself down but obviously failing.
Instead, a complex expression mixed with shock, lingering fear, and an uncontrollable excitement took over:
"Jeming, do you know what this means? You came back alive from the hands of a Sixth Level Wizard! With this record, the workshop over there will definitely bestow you a title!"
His speech quickened, deep purple eyes glimmered with a strange light, "Let me think, what would be good... uh, ’Golden Ray’? Too ordinary. ’Dark Golden Fist’? Too awkward. No, you’ve got absolutely no distinctive feature, can’t think of any good title for you..."
