Chapter 629: The Village
Chapter 629: The Village
Next day.
On the official road to Gui Feng, the usually bustling road only had Lee He Song walking alone towards the city.
He took a swig of his wine gourd and wiped the wine on the side of his lips.
The summer heat was unbearable if not for the chills that were coming out from the blade of his Nine Yin Ice Sword.
He stopped when the sound of a horse carriage came from behind.
The horse carriage stopped and a head popped out through the window of it.
The man was dressed like a businessman and he said to Lee He Song, "Old man, at the junction up ahead, don’t use the official road on the right anymore, it’s not safe now.
"It’s best for you to take the small road to the left.
"There are some bandits on the small road who will let you through if you pay the toll, it might cost you something but it’s much better than if you took the one on the right."
"Thanks for letting me know." Lee He Song cupped his hands at the man and said, "What is on the official road to the right? If I may ask."
"I’m not too sure myself. For the past two days, those that took it weren’t seen again, as far as I know." The man said and Lee He Song nodded his head at him.
"I’ll be on my way now." The horse carriage of the man started moving and went past Lee He Song next.
Lee He Song frowned and he figured that it must have been what Lin Xuan Qi was talking about.
He continued on his path until he reached the junction.
Some of the travelers that went by him took the small road on the left.
They frowned when they saw him going in the direction of the official road.
"I wouldn’t do that if I were you."
"Let him be. There will always be those that think they can get lucky enough."
"We better hurry on our way before it gets dark."
They tried to warn him, but there was no way that he wouldn’t go and investigate the route on the right.
He waited for everyone to be gone before he got into the bushes by the side of the road.
That was where he took out one of the invisibility talismans given by Lin Xuan Qi.
He directed his Five-Element Qi into the talisman and it gave out a flash.
And in the next moment, he disappeared from sight.
...
In the meantime, Lao Er and Ling Er, together with the other disciples, got out from the city and they stood around looking at the horizon.
There were many roads that led to Gui Feng City and they were at a loss for which one to take.
"What should we do now?" One of the disciples gave out a sigh and asked.
Lao Er frowned and said, "Pair up in twos among each other.
"Each one of you take a road and explore around the areas leading to the city.
"The invaders are hiding out there somewhere.
"Remember to gather whatever you can as instructed by Grand Ancestor Lin.
"Come back here by tomorrow and if we aren’t here, report to the Governor or someone called Lee He Song if you can.
"Keep yourselves safe and let’s move out now."
"Yes, Sect Leader." The disciples cupped their hands at Lao Er and said.
Lao Er, who was still getting used to being addressed as such, pretended to be calm and he nodded his head at them.
Fortunately, these disciples were rogue cultivators before they joined the South Lin Sword Sect, so they knew what to do out there in the wilderness.
They didn’t need too much attention from him and they began to pair up before heading onto the different routes leading to Gui Feng City.
"Come, let’s go." Lao Er glanced at Ling Er and said.
Ling Er frowned and glanced at him, "Have you checked that you’ve brought all the things we need? Rations, weapons, artifacts..."
"Stop... I did already." Lao Er felt a headache coming when Ling Er began to recite the things that he should be checking.
He quickly showed her all the things that he had with him.
And that was satisfactory to her.
"Great. Let’s go then." Ling Er said and Lao Er gave her a shrug.
He noted the fact that she waited for the disciples to be gone before she asked, saving him face in front of the disciples.
"What? I wouldn’t be bothered if not for the fact that Grand Ancestor Lin asked me to look over you." Ling Er felt his gaze on her and said.
"Nothing. I was thinking about the time we had after the secret realm." He came up with an excuse and said.
They had spent some time together in the cave before they came over to Gui Feng City and it was a memorable time for him.
Ling Er’s face blushed when she thought about their time together.
She gave him a frown and said, "Things are different now, we have so many disciples to take care of."
Lao Er wanted to say something but no words came out from his mouth.
She was right.
Things were different now.
He had better work harder and not disappoint Grand Ancestor Lin.
Both of them headed into one of the roads and started their mission to look for the Crimson Wolf Lord and his men.
Initially, they tried to explore the forests by the side of the route, but they didn’t stumble upon anything unusual.
There were only the foliage, chirping of insects and the distant call of the animals.
And as the sun was setting, Lao Er and Ling Er decided to head for a village to spend the night.
They could also gather information from the villagers while they were at it.
It took them a while before they were able to find one.
Lao Er and Ling Er followed the track into the village but it was eerily quiet.
