Chapter 454: Chapter 174: Prefectural School (Part 5)
But he had a dissolute air about him, his amorous eyes curved upward in a half-smile. In that state, he didn’t look pathetic or comical, but rather possessed a roguish, untamed air.
With a physique, face, and temperament like that, it was understandable how Mr. Yin could get any woman he set his eyes on, and even have them willing to die for him, utterly devoted and refusing to leave his side.
Yin Xichen swayed as he walked up to the steps. He looked down at the two students below and nodded in satisfaction. "Not bad. You’re both easy on the eyes."
This was just blatant bullying.
’Have you already forgotten why you got beaten up?’
’Now you’re abusing your position as proctor, knowing the students can’t lay a hand on you, to push things even further. How can you be so rotten?’
’Is it really so hard for you to be a role model for your students?’
De’an curled his lip, about to spit out a sarcastic remark, when a soft cough suddenly came from outside the door. Someone was standing at the entrance to the hall, reminding Yin Xichen to watch his words.
Yin Xichen rolled his eyes. He stopped spouting nonsense and casually waved the exam questions in his hand. "Come on up and get them. Also, you have a total of one and a half hours to answer. Once it’s Noon, you’ll turn them in immediately."
De’an shot up before Zhao Jing could and strode forward to grab the exam paper.
The exam paper itself was simple, with only two questions on it.
But the questions weren’t on regulated verse, classical essays, or legal composition; they were genuine policy essays.
Two policy essays!
’You have to understand, even during the Prefectural Exam, they give an average of two hours for each policy essay question.’
’And for a mere entrance exam, not only is the difficulty greater than the Prefectural Exam, but the total time is half an hour less! This is outrageous!’
De’an glared at him, but Mr. Yin said leisurely, "Still haven’t started? What are you looking at me for? You’re only wasting your own time. If you can’t finish by the deadline, the academy will have grounds to expel you."
De’an gritted his teeth. "Where’s the answer paper?"
"Oh, you need answer paper too?"
Mr. Yin said with a breezy smile, "Did you really think this was a formal examination hall, where I’d hand everything out to you? Didn’t you know to prepare yourselves? If you don’t have answer paper, figure it out yourselves."
Zhao Jing grabbed De’an, who was clenching his fists and ready to throw a punch. "Don’t worry. I brought some."
De’an was surprised, swallowing the curse that was on the tip of his tongue. "When did you bring it? How come I didn’t see?"
Zhao Jing didn’t answer. He just pulled a stack of paper from his desk and gave half to De’an.
His attempt to make things difficult having failed, Mr. Yin was not pleased.
He leaned back in his chair, propped his crossed legs right onto the lecturer’s desk, and pillowed his hands behind his head. "You came quite prepared. You didn’t bring a cheat sheet, did you? Don’t let me catch you. If I do, I’ll make you famous throughout the entire academy."
Zhao Jing looked up. "Don’t you have eyes? Just watch closely. Do you want to search me? Better not. I am, after all, a Scholar... I can’t afford to lose that much face."
The unspoken meaning—oh, that unspoken meaning was omitted just so—was enough to make Mr. Yin puff up like a blowfish with rage.
Time was short. After sitting down, Zhao Jing and De’an immediately began drafting their answers.
Mr. Yin, determined to interfere with their exam, spoke up again. "I say..."
"I say, Mr. Yin, can you act like a decent human being for once? The students need to work on their answers, so you should shut your mouth and proctor properly. What kind of proctor is as talkative as you? Don’t just pick on people relentlessly. Otherwise, be careful I don’t report you to the Headmaster."
"Tattling, always tattling! Are you a bunch of sniveling children, is that all you know how to do? I seem to recall you have a class first thing this morning, don’t you? Why aren’t you in your hall teaching? If you delay your students’ lesson, that’s a teaching incident. Then it’ll be my turn to report *you* to the Headmaster!"
Hearing this, the instructor at the door finally left, albeit reluctantly.
But as he left, he made sure to add a special reminder, "I’ll swing by when I have a free moment. You just focus on proctoring properly and stop bullying the students."
Mr. Yin rolled his eyes, speechless. "I know, I know. Anyone who knows the situation would say you’re just looking out for your students. Anyone who doesn’t would think these two are your sons."
’He really has no filter. He completely deserved getting a sack thrown over his head and beaten up that day.’
Perhaps it was because Mr. Yin was so unreliable that the academy’s teachers and elders didn’t trust him in the slightest. Or perhaps everyone was just too idle, and now that such a rare bit of entertainment had come along, they couldn’t resist coming over to watch the spectacle and pass the time.
For the rest of the morning, the figures of instructors and deans could be seen appearing at the entrance of the hall from time to time.
It wasn’t just them. Even the students of Yueli Hall, who had only spent two days with Zhao Jing and De’an, came running over as soon as their classes ended.
