Chapter 483 - 446: Pei Yuanyuan
Chapter 483: Chapter 446: Pei Yuanyuan
"You’re ’Tun Tun is not a Pig’?" Half an hour later, in a coffee shop near Jiangnan Beast Taming University, Li Qian looked at the girl sitting across from him, a question in his eyes.
The girl before him had large eyes and a round, slightly chubby face that still held a bit of baby fat. She wasn’t tall and wore her hair in a bun, looking very cute.
Li Qian found it hard to connect her with the user in the group chat who had a pig’s head for an avatar and had so seriously discussed breeding matters with him.
"The one and only!" ’Tun Tun is not a Pig’ giggled. As she spoke, she reached out and tapped her smart bracelet right in front of Li Qian.
A moment later, Li Qian saw a notification on his own smart bracelet. In the group chat, ’Tun Tun is not a Pig’ had just posted a smiling emoji.
"So you really are ’Tun Tun is not a Pig.’ Right, I don’t know your name. What should I call you?" Confirming the girl’s identity, Li Qian set aside his surprise and asked.
’This girl looks so petite, like a high schooler, but she’s actually a student at Jiangnan Beast Taming University, and in the Cultivation College, no less. It’s only natural she could hold her own in a discussion with me in the group chat.’
"My name is Pei Yuanyuan," the girl introduced herself.
Li Qian glanced at her round face and subconsciously muttered, "That name... it’s quite fitting."
"What did you say?" Pei Yuanyuan had vaguely heard something, but not clearly. She tilted her head and asked.
"Nothing."
Li Qian quickly tried to gloss over it. "I was just saying, my name is Li—"
"Li Qian!" Before he could finish, Pei Yuanyuan cut in, revealing his identity.
"You know me?!" Li Qian asked, surprised that she knew his name.
He wasn’t worried about Pei Yuanyuan leaking his identity. After chatting with her in the group for so long, he had a pretty good grasp of her character.
She definitely wasn’t the type to go around leaking secrets, and she probably wasn’t a blabbermouth either.
’Well, maybe I can’t be sure about that last part.’
"Li Qian, you were the champion of the breeding competition in this year’s Freshman Challenge. It’d be hard *not* to know who you are," Pei Yuanyuan said with a faint smile.
"Did you forget? The Freshman Challenge was live-streamed."
Li Qian nodded slightly after her explanation. "I see."
"Since you’ve recognized me, well..."
After a moment of thought, Li Qian couldn’t resist giving her a reminder. "But my identity is a bit sensitive right now. The Cult Organization probably wants me dead, so you need to..."
Pei Yuanyuan was very sharp. She understood immediately and quickly said, "Don’t worry, Li Qian. I’ll be sure to keep my lips sealed about your identity."
"Mm."
Seeing her give her word, Li Qian smiled and changed the subject. "By the way, speaking of the Freshman Challenge, why didn’t you participate? With your level of skill, it shouldn’t have been hard to get a spot, right?"
’After chatting in the group for so long, I have a pretty good idea of her skill level.’
When she heard this, a bitter, helpless expression crossed Pei Yuanyuan’s face. "Sigh. You can probably guess from my username—I’ve been focused on researching Tun Tun."
"But the Four Great Wasted Pets really live up to their name. This Tun Tun... it’s a complete bottomless pit."
"I’ve been researching it for over a year now, but I still have nothing to show for it."
Her voice was laced with bitterness as she continued, "Without any results, how could I have participated in the Freshman Challenge?"
How could she have wanted to miss a grand event like the Freshman Challenge? But without any accomplishments to her name, she couldn’t participate even if she wanted to.
"How far along is your research now?" Li Qian asked, his curiosity piqued.
"Oh, that’s right! Now that you’re here, you can help me take a look."
At Li Qian’s question, something seemed to click in Pei Yuanyuan’s mind. Her tone turned joyful as she said, "You’re a once-in-a-century breeding genius!"
COUGH! COUGH!
Li Qian couldn’t help but let out a couple of coughs at her praise.
’Duan Kong had introduced me with the "once-in-a-century" prefix before, and now Pei Yuanyuan was saying it too. I mean, it’s true, but it’s still a little embarrassing.’
Feeling a little flustered, Li Qian quickly spoke up, trying to be humble. "Please, Pei Yuanyuan, don’t say that. A once-in-a-century genius? I’m not worthy of such a title."
"You evolved a Red Feather Chicken, another of the Four Wasted Pets, into a Sunbird with Potential all the way up to Emperor High Rank."
Pei Yuanyuan said seriously, "If that doesn’t make you a once-in-a-century breeding genius, what does?"
Without pausing, she continued, "And don’t call me Pei Yuanyuan. We’ve known each other in the group chat for almost half a year. Just call me ’Yuanyuan’."
He decided not to dwell on the "once-in-a-century" business anymore. ’She can call me whatever she wants,’ he thought. After a bit more small talk, the two left the coffee shop.
"This is...?" About half an hour later, they arrived in front of a Cultivation Base not far from Jiangnan Beast Taming University. Li Qian looked at the facility and asked.
Pei Yuanyuan walked ahead, leading the way. "This Cultivation Base belongs to my mentor. He recently went to a Dimension Plane to do some research, so he’s not here. It’s the perfect opportunity to borrow his facility for our work."
Hearing this, Li Qian couldn’t help but wipe away the non-existent sweat on his forehead.
’Is it really okay to say that so brazenly? That you’re just going to fleece your mentor like this?’
Shaking his head to clear it of such thoughts, Li Qian used his bracelet to receive the data Pei Yuanyuan sent him.
"You’re not worried at all, just sending me all your research like that?" Li Qian asked with a smile after receiving the data.
"My research hasn’t produced any substantial results, so even if it has some value, it’s not much."
Pei Yuanyuan pouted and said nonchalantly, "Besides, to be honest, I’ve already hit a bottleneck with my research into Tun Tun’s evolution."
"My next step was to bring in other people for a joint study anyway, so I would have shared this data eventually."
Li Qian nodded at her words. ’Pei Yuanyuan is quite sensible.’
She wasn’t like some Breeders who would just stubbornly keep toiling away by themselves when they couldn’t get a result.
After accepting the breeding data from Pei Yuanyuan, Li Qian began to look through it seriously.
Thanks to him, two of the Four Wasted Pets—the Koi Carp and the Red Feather Chicken—had already shed that infamous title.
That just left Tun Tun and the Flash Moth. Li Qian felt that if he could figure out the Evolutionary Forms for all of them, it would be a truly meaningful accomplishment.
This was part of the reason he had agreed to help with the research.
