Chapter 376 - 346: Feifei
Chapter 376: Chapter 346: Feifei
Accompanied by Teacher Wu, Li Qian toured all the vacant bases in Zone C, and in the end, he chose one.
"This will be the one!" Li Qian said to Teacher Wu, pointing at the sign for the "Jade Research Base," which they had just returned to.
This was his final choice.
The reason he chose this base was simple: it had a small pond inside, which meant he could later set up a small, artificial waterfall.
The Cyan-Scaled Flood Dragon needed a waterfall for its Skills training.
Other than that, the Jade Research Base had no outstanding features; it was mediocre in every respect.
It didn’t cover a large area either.
Of course, in this Third Secret Realm, none of the research bases covered a large area.
The areas for raising Pet Beasts were all shared and open-concept, giving it a sort of free-range feel.
Li Qian had suspected as much during his tour, as he occasionally saw Pet Beasts darting in and out of the area.
With such a free-range system, managing it properly and preventing chaos would probably be quite difficult.
Fortunately, this was a matter for Shazhou Beast Taming University, so he didn’t need to worry about it at all.
Now, his attention was completely focused on this research base, which covered only a little over an acre and a half.
Although it had been abandoned for some time with no Breeders in residence, the Jade Research Base didn’t seem dilapidated, as a smart robot had been cleaning it regularly.
The smart robot’s name was Feifei. With its large head and big ears, it was rather chubby and looked a bit like a good-luck doll.
Feifei had a pair of small wings on its back, was capable of Flying, and knew the research base like the back of its hand.
While it couldn’t handle complex tasks, it was certainly capable of cleaning the base and distributing Pet Beast feed.
According to Feifei, the research base originally had five smart robots like it. When the original owner left, they took four, leaving only Feifei behind.
Listening to Feifei’s rambling account, Li Qian got a general idea of the base’s original owner.
When he heard that the original owner had taken almost all the data they could carry, Li Qian lost interest in listening further.
With all the data gone, the base was just an empty shell.
Fortunately, Li Qian hadn’t held out much hope in this regard, so he wasn’t disappointed.
"Alright." Seeing Li Qian choose the unremarkable "Jade Research Base," Teacher Wu was a bit puzzled but didn’t say anything more.
She then helped Li Qian complete the necessary paperwork, scanning his iris to grant him administrative access to the base.
From that day on, Li Qian was the master of this research base—at least, until he graduated.
After all the paperwork was finished, Teacher Wu left. Li Qian, however, stayed behind to familiarize himself with his new surroundings.
This would be the place where he would spend most of his time for the next few years, so naturally, he needed to get to know it well.
After getting his bearings for a while, Li Qian summoned several of his Pet Beasts. In addition to Qizai and Xiaoliu, there was also a Three-headed Rock Monster and two Four-tailed Cats.
Li Qian had been worried that Qizai, Xiaoliu, and the others would run wild and cause conflict with the other Pet Beasts in the Secret Realm.
But after they came out, whether it was the first two, the Three-headed Rock Monster, or the two Four-tailed Cats, they were all incredibly well-behaved—as docile as five little kittens.
Seeing this, Li Qian was a bit puzzled, so he made an inquiry through his Soul Contract.
’There’s the aura of a terrifying Extraordinary Creature here,’ Qizai’s response came, startling Li Qian. ’This aura... it fills almost the entire Secret Realm.’
’For Qizai to call it "terrifying," its Level must be at least Holy Spirit. It might even be higher.’
No wonder they were so docile. Now, Li Qian finally understood why the university wasn’t worried about Pet Beast riots in the Secret Realm.
’With such a terrifying entity standing guard, what Pet Beast in the Secret Realm would dare act up?’
Knowing that such an extremely terrifying Pet Beast existed, Li Qian wasn’t worried; on the contrary, he felt very much at ease.
’A Pet Beast this powerful, hidden in the Secret Realm... it must belong to some big shot.’
It was most likely the Guardian God of this Secret Realm. After settling the five Pet Beasts, Li Qian left the research base.
He wasn’t worried about the base’s security. Li Qian planned to take a walk around the Secret Realm, especially to the waterfall he had heard about earlier.
Li Qian wanted to see if that waterfall could really meet the evolutionary needs of the Koi Carp.
Before long, he arrived at the waterfall’s location. At the bottom of the falls was a deep pool, which was the source of the small river that ran through the Secret Realm.
Li Qian looked up at the 300-meter-high waterfall and nodded slightly. ’It’s a bit too high, and the force of the water is too strong. It’s not quite suitable for the Koi Carp’s evolution.’
However, that wasn’t a problem; he could make some modifications when the time for evolution came. So, Li Qian was still quite satisfied.
After strolling around the waterfall and wandering through a few other areas, Li Qian returned to the Jade Research Base.
"Hahaha, Student Li Qian! I didn’t expect you to make it to the Third Secret Realm so soon." Just as he returned, Li Qian heard a hearty and familiar voice.
It was Professor Yan.
At that moment, he was standing at the entrance of Li Qian’s research base.
Feifei was blocking his way.
"Professor Yan, welcome." Li Qian walked over with a smile. He hadn’t expected to receive his first guest the moment his research base was secured.
"Please, come in and have a seat." Li Qian waved him in, inviting Professor Yan for a tour. Seeing this, Feifei obediently moved aside.
After a brief tour and a short chat, Professor Yan prepared to leave. Before he did, at his strong invitation, Li Qian accompanied him to his research base: the Red Soil Research Base in Zone A.
Li Qian took a tour, but he grew rather silent. Professor Yan’s research base was leagues better than his own.
’A Cultivation Base of this caliber is a match for Professor Yan’s level of skill,’ he thought. ’Given my own abilities, I should be able to qualify for one as well, right?’
’But on second thought, this is normal. I know my own abilities, but the university doesn’t.’
’Besides, even if the university knew about my current abilities, they wouldn’t just upgrade me to an A-Level research base right away.’
’Things have to be done one step at a time.’
’Otherwise, other students and teachers would complain.’
’And strictly speaking, Professor Yan’s skills aren’t to be underestimated. Developing Cloud Mist No. 9 is the best proof of that.’
This time, the reason Li Qian had agreed to Professor Yan’s request to visit was not only to see his research base but also to ask for some more of the potion.
At the end of the tour, Li Qian stated his purpose.
Professor Yan didn’t hesitate, generously giving him another ten vials of Cloud Mist No. 9 Potion.
Li Qian wanted to pay with Federation Coins—as for Points, he didn’t have many left—but Professor Yan sternly refused.
As he put it, the evolution method Li Qian provided for free—the one for evolving a Gray Bean Dove into an Extreme Fierce Sky Escape Eagle—was worth far more than a few vials of Cloud Mist No. 9 Potion.
