Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 371 - 341: Cloud Mist No. 9

Chapter 371: Chapter 341: Cloud Mist No. 9

After the assassination attempt by Sun Shouhe, Li Qian returned to Shazhou Beast Taming University and acted as if nothing had happened.

He ate, drank, and studied as he always had.

There was one good thing about being a transmigrator: they had excellent mental fortitude.

Of course, his strong mentality was only one part of it. More importantly, Li Qian knew that strength was the root of everything.

With strength, you didn’t have to worry about ambushes like that.

Without it, even if you got lucky and escaped once, you were bound to run into trouble sooner or later.

So, the incident served as a wake-up call for Li Qian: unless it was absolutely necessary, he should stay within the grounds of Shazhou Beast Taming University as much as possible.

And even if he had to leave, it was best to travel alone so his movements wouldn’t be so easily exposed.

His whereabouts for Sun Shouhe’s ambush this time had likely been leaked by Pilo or Antoine.

Li Qian believed they hadn’t done it on purpose. It was just that when you acted as a group, with so many people and so many eyes, it was nearly impossible to prevent some information from leaking out.

And just like that, a week flew by.

During that week, besides his regular studies, Li Qian spent most of his time researching the Rock Monster’s method of evolution.

Right now, all three of his task slots were occupied. If an emergency arose, he wouldn’t have any way to deal with it. Therefore, Li Qian had to hurry his research, complete a task as soon as possible, and free up a slot.

And from the look of things, the research task for the Rock Monster’s evolution was undoubtedly the one most likely to be completed in a short period.

After a week of contemplation and research, having absorbed a vast amount of knowledge from books, Li Qian had made considerable progress.

Recalling the Dark Red Rock that had been guarded by a group of Rock Monsters and a Rock Giant, Li Qian couldn’t help but mutter to himself, "So that thing was called a Flowing Cloud Red Star Stone."

By figuring out the true nature of the Mutated Red Star Stone, combined with his research over the past few weeks, Li Qian had also identified another condition for evolution: the "Stone Armor" Skill at the Perfection Level.

After clarifying the necessary conditions for evolution, a complex expression appeared on Li Qian’s face. He shook his head and sighed, "The task progress has reached one hundred percent, but I can’t submit it yet."

It wasn’t that he was truly unable to submit the task, but that the rewards for submitting it at this point would be minimal.

It was only a single Achievement Point. While Li Qian was short on Achievement Points, he wasn’t desperate for just one.

"The problem must lie with the Flowing Cloud Red Star Stone..." Li Qian analyzed, a note of resignation in his voice.

"Considering how precious the Flowing Cloud Red Star Stone is, knowing the method of evolution is practically useless." With a bitter laugh, Li Qian resumed his pondering.

Even though Li Qian had now grasped the Rock Monster’s method of evolution, it wasn’t a particularly practical one.

Even if a Rock Monster evolved into a Rock Giant, its value wouldn’t be much higher than the Flowing Cloud Red Star Stone itself. More importantly, the stone was incredibly rare—one could name a price for it, but it was never on the market.

’I need to see if there’s anything that can replace the Flowing Cloud Red Star Stone...’ Li Qian thought, pushing the matter of the task’s progress to the back of his mind.

For this evolution method to have any real value, one thing was crucial: he had to find an Extraordinary Resource that could substitute for the Flowing Cloud Red Star Stone.

Unable to find an answer through thinking alone, Li Qian decided to hit the library and bury himself in books. One day, as evening approached, he was leaving the library.

Just as he walked out the main entrance, he ran into a familiar figure. Li Qian immediately went up to greet him. "Professor Yan, long time no see. What have you been researching lately?"

That’s right, it was none other than Professor Yan, the man who had provided the inspiration for his research on the Extreme Fierce Sky Escape Eagle.

It was safe to say that without Professor Yan’s accidental discovery of the Sky Escape Eagle, Li Qian would never have been able to develop the Extreme Fierce Sky Escape Eagle.

Afterward, Li Qian had even shared the evolution method for the Extreme Fierce Sky Escape Eagle with Professor Yan, earning him the latter’s immense gratitude.

Seeing Li Qian emerge from the library, Professor Yan walked over enthusiastically.

After exchanging a few pleasantries, Professor Yan continued from their previous topic. "I’m researching an Extraordinary Potion that can induce a mutant evolution in Pet Beasts."

"How is the research going?" Li Qian asked casually, not giving it much thought.

Professor Yan walked alongside Li Qian and sighed. "I’ve made some progress, but I’ve also run into some problems. Why don’t you help me analyze them?"

Li Qian hadn’t expected Professor Yan to be so direct. He paused for a second. "Sure. Tell me about it..."

"Well, it’s like this..." Facing Li Qian’s inquisitive gaze, Professor Yan gave a wry smile and explained the situation.

After listening to Professor Yan’s explanation, Li Qian sank into thought. After a moment, he offered his opinion. "From my perspective, this new ’Cloud Mist No. 9’ mutation-inducing potion you’ve developed is far too random. Its effects are completely uncontrollable!"

Professor Yan shook his head in agreement. "Yes, that’s precisely what’s been troubling me."

Li Qian frowned in thought, stroking his chin. "However, your ’Cloud Mist No. 9’ would make for a good initiating potion..."

Hearing Li Qian’s words, a look of confusion crossed Professor Yan’s eyes. "What’s an initiating potion?"

Li Qian began to explain slowly. "Since you can’t control the effects of the mutant evolution with your ’Cloud Mist No. 9’, that means the results can be either good or bad."

"Yes." Professor Yan nodded. At that moment, he had none of the bearing of an Evolution Master. He was no different from a humble student, eager to learn.

Li Qian didn’t waste any time and continued, "We can ignore the bad results, but the good ones... you should be able to draw some inspiration from them..."

"Wait..." As he spoke, Li Qian suddenly remembered something. A thought struck him like a clap of thunder.

He froze on the spot, completely still. Seeing this, Professor Yan didn’t interrupt, but simply stood there quietly.

As a Breeder himself, he knew perfectly well that Li Qian must have been caught in a moment of deep, enlightened contemplation.

When he came out of it, he would almost certainly have had a breakthrough. But the one prerequisite was that such a state could not be disturbed.

And so, Professor Yan stood by his side, subtly acting as his guardian.

"Professor Yan, you’ve helped me out immensely this time!" About ten minutes later, Li Qian suddenly snapped out of it.

Professor Yan was completely baffled. "What?"

Li Qian had no intention of dispelling his confusion, instead asking directly, "By the way, do you have any more of your ’Cloud Mist No. 9’ potion?"

Professor Yan replied blankly, "I do!"

Li Qian’s expression was excited. "Could you please get a few vials for me?"

"No, sell a few to me!"

Professor Yan immediately waved his hand dismissively. "Between us? There’s no need to talk about buying and selling. ’Cloud Mist No. 9’ isn’t really that valuable."

Hearing this, Li Qian said gratefully, "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Professor Yan."

Although Professor Yan didn’t understand why, a flicker of anticipation appeared in his eyes. Li Qian’s behavior reminded him of something.

He dazedly took three test tubes out of his Spatial Equipment. Only after taking them out did he seem to remember his other reason for being there. "Oh, I almost forgot. There was something else. Here, this is for you!"
