Chapter 480 - 297: Battle of the Duck and Chicken
Chapter 480: Chapter 297: Battle of the Duck and Chicken
Liu Yuhang: "...You’d be better off dead."
Su Zhi: "Heh."
After the Beast Tamers’ friendly pre-match exchange, the sparring match between the duck and the chicken officially began!
"WHOOSH—" Xue Li was the first to move, flapping her wings to send out a menacing wave.
Unlike wild Exotic Beasts, which fight to the death on sight, spars between Pet Beasts were far more civilized. They typically didn’t unleash their ultimate abilities right away, instead starting with a few probing moves to feel each other out.
For one, it served as a warm-up to get them into the right state for battle.
For another, it allowed them to gauge their opponent’s strength. This would give them a good idea of whether they should hold back, go all out, or just play defensively to stay in the fight.
This was also why most Beast Taming tournaments were so entertaining to watch. The battles were fierce, yet life-threatening injuries were rare—an unspoken agreement between competitors.
However, even as a probing move, Xue Li’s attack was a heavy hitter. An ordinary Pet Beast wouldn’t be able to take it.
A Water Element Middle Elite Skill, Surge Impact!
While Su Zhi was away at Hundred Rivers, Liu Yuhang and Xue Li hadn’t slacked on their training either.
Although she was stuck at the Quasi-Two-star level due to the limits of his Beast Taming Space, Xue Li had mastered many additional Skills through diligent training. Furthermore, after evolving into a Wave-Riding Duck, many Skills that were once difficult to grasp became as easy as breathing. This, combined with her inherent hard work, allowed Xue Li’s power to skyrocket.
Now, Xue Li had firmly secured her position as Huai City’s number one Water Element Pet Beast, even earning a series of titles like "Sea Queen" and "Duck King."
Though they weren’t exactly the most pleasant-sounding titles...
Surge Impact was one of the new Skills Xue Li had learned during this period.
It was slightly slower than Towering Waves and didn’t look particularly threatening, but that was precisely its deceptive quality. Surge Impact was a mass of compressed water, making it far heavier than an ordinary wave.
Water’s molecular structure is incredibly stable, making it nearly impossible to compress in nature, yet a Wave-Riding Duck could accomplish this through its own power.
It was a Siege Hammer, tailor-made for opponents who excelled at defense and were difficult to break through.
If an opponent underestimated this attack and was hit, they would immediately understand the meaning of a "heavyweight" Skill.
And Shan Bao’s way of handling it was to simply brute-force it.
In the past, Shan Bao might have at least made a token effort to dodge with Flash Gold Teleportation, but now, it didn’t even bother putting on a show.
Facing Xue Li’s Surge Impact, Shan Bao stood its ground, taking the hit directly.
"THWUMP—"
A heavy, sodden thud, completely belying the attack’s appearance, echoed out. Su Zhi took a tactical step back, barely avoiding getting drenched.
Shan Bao’s head wobbled from the impact, and its expression seemed momentarily dazed, but it remained standing firmly in place.
"CHIRP! CHIRP!" Shan Bao shook the water from its body, full of energy.
"..." Xue Li was speechless.
Her plan had been for Shan Bao to use Flash Gold Teleportation to dodge the attack. She had already locked onto the scattered golden feathers nearby, ready to focus her fire the moment Shan Bao landed.
There was little point in studying Yu Bao, and she wasn’t familiar with Wu Bao, so Xue Li had always focused her attention on Shan Bao. She had even watched many of its matches.
She had even figured out Shan Bao’s evasion patterns!
But now, Shan Bao wasn’t dodging at all.
’Hey, you’re making Auntie Xue Li look bad here...’
Xue Li figuratively facepalmed, but her gaze quickly hardened with resolve. She decided to just fire the High-Pressure Water Gun blasts she had been saving for an ambush directly at Shan Bao.
’Since you’re so confident in your defense, then I’ll just use my offense to shatter it!’
’Auntie Xue Li is getting serious for real this time!’
