Chapter 903: A Genius

Huang Fei tugged at her son, ready to move on, when she noticed him staring intently at the Su family’s yard.
“We need to hurry to your tutoring class, or you’ll be late. You can’t be like that second boy from the Su family, acting all unruly. It’s nice to call it innocent and adorable, but let’s be real—it’s just a lack of upbringing, like a primitive human. Kids like that are the worst. Did you hear me?”
In Huang Fei’s eyes, Su Li’s carefree attitude was nothing short of a waste of time, utterly foolish. She was determined not to let her son fall into such a trap.
Even in this small place, she wouldn’t allow her son’s education to slip. After a long search in Guangcheng, she had finally found a tutoring class that barely met her standards. Today was the day she would drop her son off, ensuring he didn’t slack off or lose his motivation.
As they stepped out, she spotted the Su family happily playing with their large dog. It struck her as utterly dull. ‘These nouveau riche people just lack depth,’ she thought, shaking her head.
She had to remind her son not to envy such a carefree yet foolish lifestyle. Knowing how easily children could be attracted to such brainless fun, she felt it necessary to keep Xu Sheng in check.
Xu Sheng, however, wasn’t thinking about slacking off; he was simply intrigued. He had never lived as leisurely as Su Li seemed to. He was curious about what that kind of life felt like. And after seeing how impressive Su Le was last time, he couldn’t help but wonder how a family with such a relaxed atmosphere could also raise a genius. But in the face of his mother’s stern demeanor, he dared not pursue those thoughts any further.
Instead, a suffocating sense of pressure washed over him, leaving him feeling powerless. He understood that his mother’s strictness came from a place of wanting the best for him, to mold him into a useful person. He had no reason to argue against her.
With that in mind, he averted his gaze and replied, “I heard you. I was just looking.”
Regaining his composure, Xu Sheng resumed his usual proud demeanor, lifting his chin as he climbed into their car.
Huang Fei watched her meticulously raised genius son with a sense of pride and satisfaction. To her, a good genius should always heed the words of adults.
She remained blissfully unaware that having a genius and being obedient at the same time was a contradiction. Xu Sheng was more of a carefully crafted product in her eyes rather than a living, breathing individual with his own thoughts and feelings.
Meanwhile, in the Su family household, Su Shen had just finished building the dog house and was now taking his two sons to the backyard to tend to the vegetable garden.
This garden was a special place for Gu Zi; whenever he had free time, he would come here to work, hoping to spare Gu Zi from the heavy labor, which he viewed as her burden to bear.
After finishing her herbal medicine, Gu Zi took Su Le upstairs for a little rest. Fortunately, Su Le didn’t fuss and happily played quietly in the corner, allowing her to enjoy a refreshing nap.
By the time she descended with Su Le, the enticing aroma of food wafted through the air, particularly the savory scent of beef sour soup, making her mouth water with anticipation.
Gu Zi settled down for a hearty meal. Afterward, she spent some time relaxing in the front yard, sipping on the fragrant red tea that Grandma Gao had sent over. The tea was rich and aromatic, slightly astringent at first but giving way to a sweet aftertaste, perfectly complemented by the sour plums she had on hand.
Once Su Shen finished cleaning the kitchen, he prepared to head out for work. With plans to expand the business, there were many matters that required his presence.
Gu Zi walked him to the door and watched as he drove away, her mind drifting to enjoyable activities they could do together as a family. She called Su Bing and Su Li to bring out the two bicycles, suggesting they take a ride around the neighborhood to enjoy the fresh air.
Before heading out, Gu Zi made sure to put on a full face of makeup and changed into a stylish blue and white shirt with suspenders, completing her look with cute white sneakers and a baseball cap.
As she descended the stairs, she caught the attention of Su Li and Gao Ming, who were sprawled on the living room floor playing with figurines. Their eyes widened in surprise and admiration as they took in her appearance.
“Mom, you look so beautiful! You’re the prettiest person in the world!” Su Li exclaimed.
Gao Ming added, “Auntie, did you descend from heaven? You look so stunning!”
Gu Zi felt a surge of happiness at their compliments and decided to invite Gao Ming, “We’re planning to go for a bike ride. Would you like to join us, Gao Ming?”
Gao Ming eagerly nodded and dashed toward the door, calling out, “Auntie, Su Li, wait for me! I’m going to get my bike!”
Just as Gao Ming hurried out to fetch his bicycle, his father, Gao Lang, arrived home, carrying a bag full of new toys and snacks. This time, he had come back specifically to see his eldest son.
After chatting with Su Bing last time, he felt a wave of emotion wash over him. Realizing how much he had neglected Gao Ming in the past, he was determined to be a better father moving forward. He understood that while time lost could never be regained, he could still make the most of their future together.
