Chapter 1072: Gong Xin Is Dating Someone

Chapter 1072: Gong Xin Is Dating Someone

Gu Zi decided to talk to Su Shen about the matter later.

For now, she had something more pressing to take care of—her medical examination. The health report was a mandatory requirement for university admission, and she couldn’t afford to be careless about it.

Early in the morning, she packed her things, hopped onto her bicycle, and pedaled her way to the hospital.

Upon arrival, she was taken aback by the sheer number of people waiting for their check-ups. Most of them looked around seventeen or eighteen—undoubtedly students who had just completed their college entrance exams.

She didn’t recognize anyone in the crowd, so she found a spot where the cool breeze reached and sat down, quietly waiting for her turn. But before she could relax, a voice called out excitedly, unable to conceal its enthusiasm.

“Gu Zi, is that really you? I heard you got into Imperial Capital University—congratulations! You’re incredible!”

Gu Zi lifted her head, puzzled, and found herself staring at a group of teenagers, both boys and girls, who were looking at her with admiration.

“Uh… sorry, but who are you?” she asked, completely lost.

The boy leading the group chuckled. “We were in the same class! Well, technically. You weren’t really around, so it’s understandable you don’t know us. But your name is legendary at our school. All of us at Renhe take immense pride in you!”

A girl beside him nodded eagerly. “That’s right! You’re a total genius. Not only did you crush the scores of the students from Guangwai, but you also became the provincial top scorer and got accepted into Imperial Capital University. That’s something the rest of us could only dream of achieving!”

Gu Zi felt a little awkward. Technically, they were classmates, but she didn’t recognize a single one of them. Not wanting to seem rude, she simply nodded and greeted them. “Hello.”

Her simple acknowledgment only made them even more enthusiastic.

“You’re seriously amazing,” one of them gushed. “We used to think we were pretty smart, but compared to you, we’re nothing!”

Another chimed in, “She’s the provincial top scorer! Of course, we can’t compare. Oh, by the way, Gu Zi, since we were classmates, we actually wanted to invite you out last time, but… well, your dad was way too intimidating. We didn’t dare go near you.”

Gu Zi frowned in confusion. “My dad? Who?”

A boy, nudged forward by his peers, blushed and stammered, “Uh, that man who was with you at the department store while you were picking out clothes… we wanted to invite you, but he turned us down.”

Gu Zi’s memory flickered. She thought back to that day, and suddenly, a realization hit her like a bolt of lightning. Oh no.

So that day, when Su Shen insisted she pick out two shirts that complemented him, and later stubbornly refused to take off the white one… was it because of this?

Ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous!

She looked at the bright, innocent faces of her classmates and decided to set the record straight. “You guys are mistaken. That wasn’t my father. That was my husband.”

Dead silence.

Every single one of them froze, their expressions blank with shock. Before they could recover, her name was called, and she swiftly followed the doctor into the examination room.

The check-up didn’t take long, and soon, she was on her way out of the hospital. But before she could make it far, she ran into a familiar face.

“Jin Long?” She blinked at him in surprise. “Are you not feeling well? You look terrible.”

Jin Long looked unsteady, his eyes shimmering with unshed tears. His gaze was unfocused as he looked at her and, in a broken voice, blurted out, “Gu Zi… Gong Xin is dating someone. Did you know?”

Then, before she could react, he turned and walked away, his long limbs carrying him off at a brisk pace, as if running from heartbreak itself.

Gu Zi stood there, dumbfounded.

What?! Gong Xin was dating someone? Just like that, without a word to anyone? No way. There had to be a misunderstanding.

Still lost in thought, she stepped outside the hospital—and immediately ran into the woman in question.

Gong Xin wasn’t alone. And just like Jin Long had said, there was someone beside her. A man. Wu Hao.

Gu Zi’s brows lifted in surprise. What were these two doing together? Did Gong Xin realize that Jin Long had seen them? Judging by her relaxed demeanor, probably not.

Gong Xin grinned when she saw her. “Gu Zi! What a coincidence. What are you doing at the hospital?”

Gu Zi thought back to Jin Long’s devastated expression and felt a little uneasy. She eyed the Gong Xin and Wu Hao before answering, “I came for a medical examination. But what about you? What are you doing here? And with him?”

Wu Hao and her original self had grown up together in the military compound. Their families were well-matched, so it wasn’t surprising that he and Gong Xin knew each other. But to think they were close enough to be seen together at a hospital? And more importantly… Gong Xin, dating Wu Hao?

No.

Impossible.

There had to be another explanation.
