Chapter 680 - 710: Freeloaders Who Want Everything
Chapter 680: Chapter 710: Freeloaders Who Want Everything
Great. Now Shen Xiaoya’s expression had darkened too.
The mother and daughter both sat there with grim expressions, and for a moment, neither knew what to say.
They were furious but couldn’t show it. If they lost their temper, their dream of getting the courtyard house would go up in smoke.
But if they didn’t, this Qin Jiao was just infuriating!
But Qin Jiao had no more time to deal with them. Just then, Shen Yi came home. Qin Jiao smiled and said, "Shen Yi, you’re finally back. They’ve been waiting for you for a long time. Why don’t you host them? I’m going to check if the baby’s awake."
"Okay."
The moment Shen Yi stepped into the room and saw Old Mrs. Shen and Shen Xiaoya, his handsome face fell.
He had considered they might show up at his door, and now they actually had.
He could let his grandmother, Old Mrs. Shen, slide; she was old, after all. But his aunt, Shen Xiaoya, spent all her time mooching off one person after another.
She was perfectly able-bodied, with two hands and two feet, yet she refused to do a thing.
Oh, right. She also liked to go dancing and play cards. That was how she’d met her last few husbands.
It never took long, though, before another woman came along and snatched them away.
Shen Yi wasn’t about to just throw them out, but he didn’t have much patience either. He asked directly, "What do you want?"
Shen Xiaoya was a bit scared of Shen Yi and didn’t dare to speak right away. She tugged on the old woman’s sleeve. Old Mrs. Shen spoke up, "Xiao Yi, no matter what, I’m your own grandmother. Are you really going to stand by and watch me starve or die from sickness?"
Shen Yi asked in surprise, "You have a terminal illness?"
Old Mrs. Shen: "..."
She was seething but didn’t dare provoke Shen Yi, so she forced herself to swallow her anger.
Old Mrs. Shen dabbed at the corner of her eye. "Sigh, my life is so hard. I’m about to be homeless, sleeping on the streets. It’s just too miserable."
Shen Yi asked curiously, "What happened? Did my second uncle get arrested and his house get confiscated? You have nowhere to live?"
Right now, Old Mrs. Shen and Shen Xiaoya were both living in Shen Zhenshan’s rented apartment.
Shen Zhenshan had a job at a paint factory. He was an assistant manager in name only, a man with no real ability who was just coasting.
He also liked to collect antiques, but he had no eye for them, so nearly everything he bought was a fake.
He had been married once, but he was infertile. When the paint factory started to decline, his wife divorced him and left.
Now the three of them were crammed into a small rental, eating pickled vegetables and noodles every day. They felt their lives were utterly miserable.
Yet despite this miserable existence, none of them made any effort to find work. They were content to just sit around and deplete what little they had.
And that all led to today’s scene: Old Mrs. Shen and Shen Xiaoya showing up at his door to freeload.
Their goal was to get that courtyard house. On top of that, they wanted Shen Yi to give Shen Zhenshan a job at his company and get Shen Xiaoya a position at the clothing factory.
They had originally planned to say all this to Qin Jiao, but she was completely unyielding.
Now that Shen Yi was back, the two of them instantly clammed up.
Shen Yi said, "Oh, if that’s all, you should head home. It looks like it’s about to rain."
What an unsubtle way to tell them to leave.
The truth was, if Shen Xiaoya and the others had even a bit of drive—like Qin Jiqun, who was willing to do hard labor moving bricks on a construction site, unafraid of the toil and exhaustion—then you could at least say they had some ambition.
But they had no ambition whatsoever. They just wanted to be freeloaders. No one’s money just falls out of the sky.
Just because Shen Yi had money, did that mean he was obligated to give it to them?
’What kind of logic is that!’
Out of respect for their status as his elders, Shen Yi was already restraining his temper by not saying anything harsher.
