Chapter 618 - 648: How Dare You Hit Me
Chapter 618: Chapter 648: How Dare You Hit Me
Qin Jiao started the car. She looked at the asphalt road ahead and said helplessly, "If he insists on taking the blame for Xiao Tao, there’s nothing anyone can do."
With Feng Lan as an eyewitness and Qin Jiqun’s own confession, the murder case was as good as closed.
So, the question was, where was Qin Tao now?
Qin Shi knew better than anyone.
Her school wasn’t far from home, so she commuted. Her route home was always along the main road, so Qin Zhonghui and Su Yun had never worried.
And at night, she usually had a classmate from the same residential complex to walk with.
But today, that classmate hadn’t been feeling well and had gone home early in the afternoon. So when school let out, Qin Shi was walking home alone.
It was just after six on a summer evening. The sky wasn’t dark yet, just starting to dim. There were still plenty of pedestrians on the street, all rushing home—adults to start dinner, children to toss their backpacks aside and start playing.
As Qin Shi hurried along, her mind was on a math problem from earlier that day. She had a nagging feeling there was an easier way to solve it.
Just then, someone blocked her path, grabbing her wrist and roughly yanking her to the side.
Once Xiao Shi got a clear look at the person, she launched a swift kick straight into his stomach.
Qin Tao cried out in pain and let go, clutching his stomach as he glared at Qin Shi. "You dare hit me?!"
"Why wouldn’t I? You used to hit me when we were kids. Now that we’re older, I hit you. Fair is fair."
"..."
Seeing Qin Shi adjust her backpack strap and turn to leave, Qin Tao immediately yelled, "Hey, you! Stop right there! I need to talk to you!"
Qin Shi didn’t even pause.
Qin Tao immediately ran to catch up with her, but he didn’t dare reach for her again. He said, "Qin Shi, go to my aunt’s place and get my grandma for me. I need to talk to her."
Qin Tao had heard from his dad that his grandma was living with his aunt now. He was homeless with nowhere to go, so his only option was to find her.
Otherwise, he’d starve.
Why his grandma? Because Qin Tao knew that out of the entire family, only she would be unconditionally good to him. As for the others, especially Qin Shi’s family, they definitely wouldn’t be.
But the residential complex was huge. It was Qin Tao’s first time in the city, and he didn’t know his way around. He couldn’t even get past the iron gate.
He had, however, found out which school Qin Shi attended, so he had deliberately waited for her here.
Qin Shi had heard a little about what happened with her uncle’s family. Although she didn’t know who the murderer was, she was sure the real culprit was one of those three.
’Could it be... Qin Tao?’
Qin Shi adjusted her backpack. "Alright," she said. "Come with me to the entrance of their complex and wait. I’ll go up and get her for you."
Qin Tao breathed a sigh of relief.
He looked at her and noticed that Qin Shi, who used to be shorter than him, was now a little bit taller. He mumbled, "You must’ve eaten well these past few years, getting so tall."
Qin Shi ignored him.
When they reached the gate of her aunt’s residential complex, Qin Shi was about to open it and go in when Xiao Tao suddenly had a thought. He grabbed her backpack and said, "No, what if you go in and don’t come back out? Leave your backpack with me."
’There’s probably some money or something valuable inside,’ Qin Tao thought.
His life over the past few years had given Qin Tao an extraordinary craving for money, to the point of obsession.
But this was Qin Shi. As someone who loved to study, she treated her books like they were her lifeline.
So she immediately refused. "No! Let go!"
"Not an option! If you don’t, I’ll stab you!" Xiao Tao pulled a small knife from his pocket.
