Chapter 610 - 640: Do You Know Qin Jiqun?
Chapter 610: Chapter 640: Do You Know Qin Jiqun?
Truthfully, Shen Feng was just speaking casually. He didn’t have any real feelings for the child—at most, he felt some of the novelty of being a first-time father.
And that novelty was fine as long as the child was well-behaved and cute, laughing happily whenever someone played with him.
But if the baby started crying and fussing, Shen Feng would instantly become irritated. He wouldn’t even want to spare the child a glance, let alone try to soothe him.
So when he heard what Lin Nian said, he didn’t give it a second thought and went straight into the study. Lin Nian breathed a sigh of relief.
The nanny caring for the child nearby, however, frowned slightly.
’The baby really is acting a little strange today. He’s sleeping a bit too much.’

One day, while Qin Jiao was still at Jiu Yi, she got a call from her aunt, Qin Na. Qin Na sounded panicked on the other end. "Xiao Jiao, something’s happened! There are police officers at the house!"
Qin Jiao said, "Auntie, don’t panic. Tell me exactly what happened. Take your time."
"I was at home with your grandma when several police officers suddenly showed up at the door. They’re still sitting in the living room right now. Your uncle is out of town on a business trip, and I just tried calling your house, but only your mom was home. Your dad isn’t around either..."
"Auntie, don’t worry. We’re all law-abiding citizens, so I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about. Just offer them some tea for now. I’m on my way."
Qin Zhonghui was also out of town, visiting two old friends from his restaurant days who specialized in pastries.
Sun Jianhua wasn’t home either.
Qin Jiao quickly handed off her work at the company, told her assistant to contact her if anything came up, and drove to her aunt’s house.
Her aunt’s house was also near North City University; they had all bought their houses in the same area. Half an hour later, Qin Jiao arrived at Qin Na’s home. The moment she pushed open the door, she saw several police officers looking rather helpless.
Old Mrs. Qin was scared stiff, convinced that something terrible had happened, and her eyes were red-rimmed.
Qin Jiao quickly asked, "Officers, what’s going on?"
One of the officers replied, "Here’s the situation. Do you know a Qin Jiqun?"
They had already asked, but it seemed the old woman was too frightened, crying without saying a word, while Qin Na had been hesitant.
Qin Jiao answered forthrightly, "Yes, I know him. He’s my youngest uncle, but we’re not on good terms and haven’t been in contact for a very long time. What’s this all about?"
"Qin Jiqun was recently released after serving his sentence, but by law, he’s subject to a six-month observation period. Our investigation now indicates that he is connected to a murder case, and he has since disappeared. That’s why we’re here to ask you a few questions. Has he contacted you at all during this time?"
Qin Jiao shook her head, then turned to her aunt, Qin Na. "Auntie, has Qin Jiqun contacted you or Grandma?"
Qin Na quickly shook her head. "He hasn’t contacted us."
The officers asked a few more questions, but seeing that the women truly didn’t know anything, they left a phone number and instructed them to call if they heard from Qin Jiqun.
After the police left, Old Mrs. Qin’s legs gave out, and she slumped to the floor.
Qin Jiao assumed her grandmother was just in shock from the scare and went to help her up. But Old Mrs. Qin suddenly began to tremble, stammering, "We have to tell your uncle to run! Quick! Otherwise, he’ll definitely be caught!"
Qin Jiao and Qin Na exchanged a look, and both of their hearts sank.
Qin Jiao asked, "Grandma, did Uncle Jiqun contact you?"
"He... he called... right after he got out of prison. He even said he would come to North City to find me."
As she spoke, Mrs. Qin started to cry.
He was her favorite son. In truth, when she’d first heard that he was coming to North City to find a job, she had been secretly overjoyed.
Now, her eldest and second sons were doing well, and so was her daughter. Only her youngest was in a pitiful state—all alone, his own son having been taken away by that woman, Feng Lan.
