Chapter 548: Chapter 557: Return to the Base

A little while later, Stella Sterling and her group returned to the Mirefall Region.

Along the way, they discovered that the earthquake that had occurred back at Sanctyr Base was a global event.

So when they saw the state of Mirefall, they were already mentally prepared.

However, the situation in Mirefall was slightly better than in Veridia. It wasn’t quite as severe.

There weren’t as many casualties, and many survivors had already begun to rebuild their homes.

They also learned from these survivors that after the disaster, Caeluna Base had launched one rescue mission after another.

It was thanks to the involvement and aid from Caeluna Base that more people were saved, preventing a higher death toll.

Caeluna Base’s name once again became renowned throughout Mirefall.

Hearing this, Stella Sterling knew it was the work of those who had remained at the base, acting on Stephen Lawrence’s orders.

She had no objection to this.

’People are strange creatures sometimes,’ she thought. ’Back when I was on my own, all I cared about was staying alive.’

’But now that I’m more powerful and have the resources, I find myself wanting to help others, too.’

’Otherwise, I wouldn’t have sent the Caeluna Base members on rescue missions, nor would I have given up my own food to save those survivors.’

But as she watched the survivors begin to rebuild their homes, Stella Sterling couldn’t help but shake her head. ’It’s useless.’

’With these relentless disasters, their efforts are just a waste of energy.’

’And from what I can tell, the disasters in this life are even worse than in my last one. In addition to the original calamities, there are now occasional earthquakes and similar events.’

’There’s no telling how many people will die after each one.’

’So, anything they build now will likely just be destroyed again.’

But seeing the hope in their otherwise numb expressions, Stella Sterling didn’t stop them.

’They probably wouldn’t believe me if I told them anyway,’ she reasoned. ’Besides, people need hope. It gives them the motivation to keep living.’

She led her group back into Caeluna Base, which looked no different from when she had left.

The earthquake had affected Caeluna Base to some extent, but during her absence, Stephen Lawrence and Shane Lawrence had already directed people to make repairs and reinforce the structures.

Word of Stella Sterling’s return quickly spread throughout Caeluna Base.

Everyone who heard the news rushed over. Looking at the familiar faces before her, a rare smile flashed across Stella Sterling’s face.

She looked at everyone and said, "I know everything you’ve done while I was away. You’ve all worked hard. Now that I’m back, let’s have a get-together for all our members!"

"Sterling, you’re back!"

"Sterling, we missed you! Having you back is better than anything!"

The people of Caeluna Base cheered. The members who had left with Stella Sterling were also smiling, and they began catching up with the others.

Zane Xavier, Andrew Shaw, and the few others who had returned with Stella Sterling couldn’t hide their amazement as they took in the sight of Caeluna Base.

And when they saw how warmly everyone greeted Stella Sterling, they were even more stunned.

It was the first time they had ever seen a leader be so popular with their own people.

This was especially true for Zane Xavier. Back at Sanctyr Base, the people there only showed Miles Sanctus fear and respect; no one ever dared to act out of line in his presence.

But Miss Sterling was completely different from Miles Sanctus.

He gazed at Stella Sterling with ardent admiration. ’To think I was a little resistant at first,’ he thought, amused at his past self.

’Good thing I know how to read the room!’

’I knew Miss Sterling was extraordinary before, but I never imagined she commanded a base this large—one that’s in no way inferior to Sanctyr Base.’

At this thought, Zane Xavier grew excited. Miss Sterling had told him that after he came back with her, he would be Caeluna Base’s director of flight technology, teaching everyone how to fly planes.

Of course Zane Xavier was thrilled to be able to do something he loved.

Andrew Shaw, on the other hand, gave Stella Sterling a complicated look. ’This woman can be so fierce sometimes, and she’s clearly not easy to get close to, but she seems to be incredibly popular,’ he mused. ’Maybe that’s part of her unique charm.’

He then pushed those thoughts aside and began to size up Caeluna Base with an excited expression.

’Ever since I was reborn, I’ve just been cautiously lying low to get by.’

’Even though I have so many years of memories from the apocalypse, my body is too young right now. I can’t use any of my skills.’

’Aside from knowing more than others, I don’t have any major advantages. I could easily be killed by someone else.’

’But now, I don’t have to worry anymore. Sticking with this woman, my good days are just getting started.’

’She’s stronger than I ever expected, and with such a large base, my safety is basically guaranteed from now on.’

"Beauty, you’re back!"

Just then, Stephen Lawrence came rushing over. His face lit up with excitement when he saw Stella Sterling, and he hurried to greet her.

Stephen Lawrence was genuinely thrilled. His boss was the backbone of Caeluna Base, and now that she had returned, he instantly felt his own strength renewed.

Shane Lawrence was right behind him, also looking at Stella Sterling with a thrilled expression.

Then she pointed to the people behind her. "These are new members of Caeluna Base. Please get them settled in. Also, those two over there have excellent medical skills. After arranging for the others, Stella Sterling said to Stephen Lawrence, "Find a place for those two to live, somewhere close to me."

"I’m going back to rest now. Come find me after you’ve finished with everything."

With that, Stella Sterling walked toward her private villa. After being on the move for so long, she could finally return to a familiar place and get some proper rest.

"Yes, Beauty!"

Stephen Lawrence nodded in Stella Sterling’s direction, then turned to the two men. "Let’s go. You two, come with me."
