Chapter 542: Chapter 551: River Larkin’s Reliance

River Larkin shouted, trying to use Sanctyr Base to intimidate Stella Sterling.

He had apparently forgotten. The last time Stella Sterling was trapped alone in Sanctyr Base, she had shown them no deference at all, turning the entire base upside down.

Now that she had already captured him and dragged him out, why would she possibly fear Sanctyr Base?

He had forgotten this in his panic. His only recourse was to invoke Sanctyr Base’s name in the hopes that Stella Sterling would let him go.

Otherwise, he had no other choice. He was no match for Stella Sterling at all. In a direct confrontation, she would utterly crush him.

He shouted as he backed away, then bumped into something. Only then did he realize he seemed to be in a vehicle.

His heart lurched. ’Has Stella Sterling already left Sanctyr Base?’

’How on earth did she do it? She snuck into Sanctyr Base without a sound, knocked me unconscious, and then carried me away, leaving without alerting a single soul.’

At this thought, his heart sank heavily.

’If we’ve left the base, then I’m in real danger.’

’If we’re still at Sanctyr Base, I still have a chance to escape. I just need to make some noise and get someone’s attention. When Selene Larkin finds out, she’ll definitely figure out a way to save me.’

He believed that Selene Larkin would definitely not abandon him.

’But now that we’re outside Sanctyr Base, even if Selene Larkin wants to save me, it’ll be much more difficult.’

’I might even be killed by Stella Sterling before Selene Larkin’s people can come to my rescue.’

River Larkin’s expression turned thoroughly grim. He stared at Stella Sterling. "Where the hell have you taken me?"

Stella Sterling remained silent, simply watching his little performance.

Andrew Shaw watched from the side. When the man had first appeared in the vehicle, he thought the woman might have some twisted hobby, like collecting human bodies.

But after seeing the man’s reaction, he knew he had been wrong.

’This man must have a history with Stella Sterling.’

’Judging by his behavior, at least, he was terrified of her.’

Andrew Shaw was timid around Stella Sterling. He’d always been timid, really. He was still just a kid, after all, so his only option was to lay low. To survive, he sometimes had to play the victim, using his youth to garner sympathy.

But ever since he started following Stella Sterling, he had pretty much cut loose. Aside from being a little timid around her, he was incredibly arrogant with everyone else.

So, when he saw the man wake up and start screeching, he grabbed something from under his seat and hurled it at him. "Who the hell do you think you are, screeching at my beautiful, kind-hearted Sterling!"

Stella Sterling turned to glance at him, and Andrew Shaw immediately beamed at her.

Stella Sterling didn’t stop him.

After all, one of them was on her side, and the other was her enemy.

So Stella Sterling let him be. As long as he wasn’t the one getting hurt, she didn’t care.

River Larkin’s head throbbed. He shot an enraged glare at Andrew Shaw, who had thrown the object.

The sunny, cheerful, and humorous man he once was had vanished, leaving only a grim, menacing figure.

But Andrew Shaw wasn’t afraid of him. He’d seen plenty of people in the apocalypse; why would someone like River Larkin scare him?

Andrew Shaw glared right back without hesitation. "What are you looking at? You’ve fallen into our hands now, so you’re in for it. You should be worrying about yourself and how to make your life a little less miserable!"

Due to the cramped space, Andrew Shaw could only run his mouth from his seat; otherwise, he would have already jumped up to point a finger at River Larkin.

Staring at this arrogant four or five-year-old brat, River Larkin felt so enraged his chest could have burst. ’When have I ever been humiliated like this?’

Since the apocalypse began, his life hadn’t always been easy, but compared to the many who couldn’t even find enough to eat, he had done extremely well for himself.

’Who would have thought a little bastard like this could walk all over me now?’

But River Larkin took a breath and quickly calmed himself. He completely ignored Andrew Shaw and turned to Stella Sterling. "Stella Sterling, aren’t you and Boss Saint friends? Aren’t you afraid of completely offending him by doing this?"

Hearing this, Stella Sterling gave him a mocking look. "You think you’re that important to Miles Sanctus?"

’I remember how Miles Sanctus made this man kneel before me just to curry my favor.’

’Stella couldn’t understand how he could possibly think Miles Sanctus considered him important.’

At her words, River Larkin’s expression froze. He had clearly remembered something as well.

He was silent for a long moment.

After a while, he finally spoke again. "Yes, it’s true I hold no special place with Miles Sanctus. But Selene Larkin is different. She’s his sworn sister! If anything happens to me, she won’t let you off the hook. And for her sake, Miles Sanctus will definitely come after you."

He closed his eyes. When he opened them again, he was much calmer. "Stella Sterling, just let me go. I’ll act like none of this ever happened. Come to think of it, there’s no deep-seated hatred between us. I’ve never done anything to truly wrong you. Why don’t we just let bygones be bygones?"

Hearing his words, Stella actually chuckled. She suddenly recalled Miles Sanctus’s heartless expression just before Selene Larkin’s death.

’Miles Sanctus could abandon even Selene Larkin without a second thought. What did River Larkin matter?’

Besides, River Larkin didn’t even know that the entire Sanctyr Base was gone.

She wasted no more words on him. Seeing they had arrived, she simply grabbed him and hauled him out of the vehicle.

River Larkin couldn’t believe it. He had laid all his cards on the table, yet Stella Sterling remained completely unmoved.

’Is she really not the least bit worried about retaliation from Sanctyr Base?’

’If even Sanctyr Base is no threat to her, how am I ever going to escape?!’

His mind raced, but he couldn’t come up with a single idea.

Until he was thrown in front of Felix Lawrence, he still hadn’t thought of a way to escape.

When Felix Lawrence saw Stella Sterling arrive, a hint of a smile flashed in his eyes. He was about to greet her when he saw her throw a man in front of him.

He looked over in confusion. In an instant, his eyes turned bloodshot. "River Larkin!!!"

Felix Lawrence strode forward, grabbed River Larkin by the collar, and slammed several punches into his face.
