Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 484 - 493: Came for Nothing

Chapter 484: Chapter 493: Came for Nothing

At his shout, the members of the Three Tigers Corps hurried over.

That was when they saw all the water in the building.

Their eyes lit up. One by one, they followed Hunter Night’s lead, each grabbing a bottle and starting to drink.

Ever since the apocalypse began, they had rarely been able to drink their fill of water.

It had been a little better during the downpours. Even without a clean source, if they were desperate enough, they didn’t care if the water outside was dirty—they just had to quench their thirst.

But since the great heat wave began, not a single drop of rain had fallen from the sky. They had all lost track of how long they’d been thirsty.

Besides, the human body naturally craved more water in such high temperatures.

But there was nothing they could do. They couldn’t find new water sources, and their existing supply was so small they had to endure the thirst.

They could only drink a little when they truly couldn’t bear it any longer.

After all, they had no idea how long their supply needed to last, so they didn’t dare drink freely.

But now, seeing this much water, they couldn’t hold back any longer.

’There’s so much here. Even if we drink a little now, there will still be plenty left.’

But no matter how thirsty they were, they all stopped after finishing one bottle. No one reached for a second.

Now, their eyes were much brighter than before, as if they had been revitalized.

Then, a problem dawned on them. With this much water, the weight would be considerable. Transporting it all back would be a huge issue.

Most importantly, it would be too conspicuous. On their way back, they would undoubtedly attract the attention of others. Once discovered, there was no way those people would let it go. They would certainly try to fight for a share.

That would lead to another messy conflict.

But as troublesome as it might be, they couldn’t just abandon this much water.

Seeing their predicament, Stella Sterling glanced up at the ceiling.

’This isn’t a problem for me. I could just put it all into my space.’

’But these supplies aren’t just mine. They’re meant to be shared with the Three Tigers Corps.’

’I don’t know these people from the Three Tigers Corps well, and they’re not my own crew.’

She couldn’t just use the convenience of her storage space for this.

After a moment, Hunter Night said, "Alright, let’s transport the food back first. We’ll leave a few people here to stand guard. Then, we’ll bring the car back to move these water barrels!"

There was a lot of water here, and it was heavy. If they tried to carry it all on their backs, it would take a lot of effort, and the risk on the road would be too high.

So, their only option was to go back for the car.

They hadn’t driven here initially because they wanted to be stealthy and avoid being discovered, but that was no longer an option.

After speaking, he turned to Stella Sterling and asked hesitantly, "Miss Sterling, I remember you drove here yesterday as well. I was wondering if we could borrow your vehicle? When we divide the supplies, we’ll be sure to give you a larger share!"

Hearing this, the members of the Three Tigers Corps glanced at Hunter Night before lowering their heads. No one objected.

Stella Sterling nodded, took out her car keys, and prepared to toss them to him.

Zane Xavier, however, shot her an anxious look, as if wanting to stop her.

’How could Miss Sterling forget? We have our own supplies in that car! What if we just lend it to them and they do something to it?’

’Sure, the Three Tigers Corps said they’d give us a bigger share of the supplies...’

’...but that little extra probably amounts to nothing compared to what we already have in our own vehicle.’

"You go back with them," Stella said. "Bring the car over!"

Just as Zane Xavier’s heart was racing with anxiety, Stella Sterling tossed the car keys into Elias Xavier’s hands.

The members of the Three Tigers Corps had no objections. In fact, they were rather grateful that Miss Sterling was willing to lend them a vehicle.

Zane Xavier breathed a sigh of relief.

’It’s much better that he’s driving instead of them,’ he thought. ’And for Miss Sterling to trust him with the car like that, without worrying he’ll just run off with a vehicle full of supplies... that really shows her faith in him.’ The more he considered it, the more moved he became.

The men quickly departed, carrying what supplies they could on their backs, but it was only a small fraction of the total.

After all, Caleb Xavier had been incredibly thorough in his preparations. He had packed the small convenience store with so many goods that it was impossible to move them all so easily.

What they were taking back now was merely a fraction of the whole.

Besides the group that left, Stella Sterling, Hunter Night, and two other members of the Three Tigers Corps remained behind.

"Miss Sterling, did you find something here?"

Hunter Night approached Stella Sterling’s side and asked quietly. He had noticed she’d been looking at a diary.

"It’s all written in there. You can take a look for yourself."

Stella Sterling gestured with her chin, indicating he should read the diary.

’Everything worth saying is recorded in that diary. There’s no need for me to explain it all again.’

Hunter Night took the diary and began to read. The more he read, the more astonished he became.

"The owner of this convenience store was a real genius. To be honest, I saw plenty of posts online about the apocalypse before it happened, but I just treated them as a joke. I never took any of it to heart."

He shook his head, sighing in amazement. He never imagined the store’s owner would have prepared so much in advance.

He admired the man’s foresight and decisiveness.

If it had been him, he could never have done something like this. He hadn’t stockpiled anything at all before the world ended.

"It’s just a shame he ran out of luck," Hunter Night continued. "Now all these things have fallen into our laps. I guess that makes us luckier than he was."

Hunter Night mused that the shop’s owner was certainly a smart man; it was just a pity that who knows what had become of him by now.

At this, Stella Sterling shot Hunter Night a strange glance.

’I know the owner, Caleb Xavier, is still alive. And from what I know about him, if he’s alive and prepared all these supplies, there’s no way he’d just abandon them.’

’He’ll probably find a way back into the country, come check on this place, and move the supplies.’

’But in my past life, when I knew Caleb Xavier, he didn’t have any supplies on him.’

’In my past life, I never even knew about this convenience store.’

’Now that I know, I’ve been wondering why Caleb Xavier never came back to get these supplies.’

’But now it’s dawning on me. In my past life, by the time Caleb Xavier came back for these supplies, someone must have already discovered this place and taken everything.’

’So Caleb Xavier made the trip for nothing.’
