Chapter 474: Chapter 483: The Purpose of Sanctyr Base (Part 3)
’Of course, if these people tried to force her hand, she wouldn’t care whether they were in the right or not. She’d just kill them first and deal with the consequences later.’
’But these men weren’t doing that. They were just laying out the facts. They didn’t even seem to mind if she and her companion left. In that case, she couldn’t just attack them.’
’After all, they were the ones who had trespassed on someone else’s turf.’
So, after a moment of thought, she asked, "Will any kind of food do?"
The big man in the lead was surprised to hear Stella Sterling speak. He’d assumed the man would be the one in charge.
After all, the man had been the one doing all the talking until now. He never expected the woman to be the one making the final decision.
After a brief pause, he nodded. "That’s right. As long as it’s edible, it’ll do."
Stella Sterling nodded without another word. She went back to the vehicle and returned with a bag, which she handed to them.
"I’m following your rules, so I expect you to keep your word. Otherwise..."
Stella Sterling left the rest unsaid, but her meaning was clear to everyone.
She wasn’t doing this because she was intimidated by their threats, but simply because she didn’t want to cause trouble and respected the local rules.
But if they went back on their word and still dared to cause trouble after she’d paid her due, she wouldn’t be so courteous.
The big man in the lead nodded. "Don’t you worry, miss. The Three Tigers Corps is famous for its integrity. If you don’t believe me, you can ask around."
"Besides, you’re planning to set up camp here. We’ll be seeing each other all the time. We’re practically neighbors now, not like the others. I hope that since we’re all living in the same area, we can unite and focus our energy on dealing with outsiders instead of fighting amongst ourselves."
Stella Sterling glanced at the man, a hint of surprise in her eyes.
’In every corner of this post-apocalyptic world, everyone had their own way of surviving.’
’Take Felix Lawrence, for example, or this man standing before her.’
’At first, seeing their aggressive stance, she had assumed they were just another group of clueless thugs looking to pick a fight. In that case, she wouldn’t have minded killing them and taking this spot for herself.’
’But he hadn’t done that. He’d simply stated their demands and laid out the facts. She didn’t find his approach off-putting at all.’
That was why Stella Sterling had chosen to hand over the food instead of resorting to violence.
"Alright, folks. Here’s your tent. Take good care of it. It has some decent insulation, which should be a big help in this heat."
After receiving the food, the man, true to his word, actually gave Stella Sterling and her companion a tent before leading his men away without any further incident.
Zane Xavier remarked from the side, "I’ve actually heard a bit about this Mountain Tiger Corps. Their leader is supposed to be a decent guy, and he treats his men well."
Stella Sterling nodded. Although their interaction had been brief, she could tell the big man was a man of his word.
She instructed Zane Xavier, "Set up the tent. You can sleep here. I’ll just sleep in the car."
’She said she’d sleep in the car, but what Stella Sterling really planned was that if she was alone, she could enter her pocket dimension to rest anytime. It was far more comfortable than a tent.’
’Previously, she couldn’t stay in the dimension for long, but that restriction was gone now.’
Zane Xavier nodded and got to work.
After leading his men back, they opened the bag.
He wasn’t worried the woman would try to trick them. After all, if she and her companion wanted to live here, there was no benefit in making enemies of them.
Besides, they were all nearby. If the woman really had tried to pull a fast one on him, they could go back and make trouble for her at any time.
But when they opened the bag and saw its contents, they were stunned for a moment.
They hadn’t expected this. Not only had she not tried to skimp, but she had given them a generous amount, and all of it was highly filling food.
The leader hefted the bag again. He hadn’t paid much attention to its weight before, but now he realized it was quite heavy—easily more than a pound.
He turned and looked back in the direction of the two newcomers, his expression complex.
Then he instructed the man next to him, "From now on, look out for those two. If they need help with anything, we help them as much as we can."
