Chapter 465 - 476: The Most Dangerous Place is the Safest

Chapter 465: Chapter 476: The Most Dangerous Place is the Safest

’After all, those people are absolutely loyal to me. They seem to genuinely see me as a god.’

’Every single one of them has absolute faith in me.’

’When they’re near me, the power of their faith surges into my body, making my own strength skyrocket.’

’In such a short time, I can feel that they trust me even more than the people at my own base.’

’It’s truly amazing.’

’Besides, they chose to believe in me. I can’t just abandon them. If I don’t meet up with them and they fall into the hands of Miles Sanctus, there’s only one fate awaiting them: death.’

’I definitely still have to go to Veridia.’

’But not right now!’

’First, I have to shake Miles Sanctus, find a place to lie low, and then get into Veridia in disguise to meet up with them.’

That was why she hadn’t headed for Veridia, nor had she gone to the well-established hideout where Felix Lawrence and his people were.

’Black Swan and the others haven’t arrived yet, and I don’t plan on completely burning my bridges with Sanctyr Base. So, for now, I don’t want to expose Felix Lawrence to them and risk getting him and his people involved.’

She couldn’t go into Veridia, and she couldn’t go back to Felix Lawrence’s group, so she had just picked a random direction and started walking.

Eventually, her wandering brought her to this abandoned village.

The place was deserted. Most of the houses had collapsed, and some looked as if they had been washed away entirely.

She found a house that seemed relatively intact, cleaned it up a little, and decided to stop here.

She planned to stay here for some time.

Hearing this, Zane Xavier felt a knot of confusion. "Miss Sterling, aren’t we leaving right away? Why are we staying here?"

He just couldn’t understand.

’Miss Sterling is so capable; she can’t be all alone,’ he thought. ’Shouldn’t she be looking for her teammates or subordinates? Why stop in a ruined village like this?’

’Even though Miss Sterling didn’t enter Veridia, this entire area is under Sanctyr Base’s control. If we don’t leave immediately, they’ll find us soon.’

’Before, it might have been fine. After all, Boss Saint seemed to treat Miss Sterling pretty well, quite generously, even.’

’But things are different now. Stella Sterling abducted one of Boss Saint’s men and hijacked his plane.’

’Under these circumstances, Boss Saint is probably furious. If he gets angry, he’s sure to come after Miss Sterling!’

He couldn’t fathom what Miss Sterling was thinking!

’Besides, didn’t Miss Sterling already have her people come and take the plane away?’

’She already met up with her people, so why not leave with them? That way, if anything happened, she’d have protection.’

He had been observing for a while now. Besides the two of them, there wasn’t a single other person here.

’If people from Sanctyr Base come looking for us, it’s just the two of us. We’ll be at a serious disadvantage.’

Previously, Zane Xavier had been occupied with other matters back at the base, so he was unaware of what had happened with Mr. and Mrs. Jennings.

An explosion at the base had caught his attention, but the situation was quickly contained. With no further incidents, he had dismissed it.

He hadn’t left his own section of the base until Boss Saint had him summoned to escort Stella Sterling.

As such, he was completely in the dark about prior events and had no idea just how formidable Stella Sterling’s combat abilities were.

This explained his current anxiety. If he had known what had happened earlier, he wouldn’t be the least bit worried about them being outnumbered.

Hearing his question, Stella Sterling shook her head. "Leave? No, we’re not leaving. I still have business here."

’I haven’t even launched my attack on Sanctyr Base yet,’ she thought. ’How could I possibly leave?’

Zane Xavier was utterly stunned by her response.

He simply couldn’t figure out what on earth this Miss Sterling was thinking.

At first, he had thought she and Boss Saint were good friends.

But then she went behind Boss Saint’s back and stayed, even pocketing the plane for herself.

She had clearly offended Boss Saint. In a situation like this, shouldn’t she be running for her life? Yet she wasn’t in any hurry to leave and didn’t seem the least bit worried.

’I don’t get it. I really don’t get it!’

But it didn’t matter if he didn’t understand. He might not have many other virtues, but he was good at following orders.

Miss Sterling was his new master now. Whatever she did, he would do. He just needed to follow her instructions; everything else was not his concern.

"Find a place and get some rest," Stella Sterling said. "Tonight, we’re going to Veridia."

Zane Xavier’s eyes flew wide. "Miss Sterling, if we go to Veridia, Boss Saint will spot us immediately! And even if that wasn’t a problem, so much time has passed since I was supposed to return. Boss Saint must have realized something is wrong. When he does, you’ll..."

He trailed off, but he was sure Miss Sterling understood the implication.

Besides, hadn’t he already told her? Boss Saint had lookouts posted specifically to watch her, which was why he’d warned her not to go to Veridia.

But now she was saying she was going anyway. ’Does she still not believe me?’

The thought made him anxious. "Miss Sterling, I wasn’t lying to you before! We really shouldn’t go there right now!"

Hearing his panicked tone, Stella Sterling just smiled. "It’s fine. Besides, who said we’re going looking like this? Once we’re in disguise, who’s going to recognize us?"

’So what if he has lookouts?’ she thought. ’Technology is so primitive these days. It’s not like before, with cameras everywhere that would give you away instantly.’

’If they’re only relying on human eyes, I have plenty of ways to slip past them.’

’Besides, the most dangerous place is the safest place. When I show up in Veridia in a new disguise, they’ll never suspect I’m right under their noses.’

After speaking, Stella Sterling paid him no more mind. She went back, found a relatively spacious spot, and, without any attempt to hide it from Zane Xavier, took out a hammock and prepared to get some sleep.

Seeing that Miss Sterling wasn’t going to listen to him, Zane Xavier could only sigh in resignation.

"Fine, fine. Let Miss Sterling do as she pleases. I will follow her lead," he muttered to himself.

As he spoke, he turned around, and his eyes bulged. "When did that hammock get here?"
