Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 439 - 449: Not Dead Yet?

Chapter 439: Chapter 449: Not Dead Yet?

"Do you have any idea what you’re saying? Or for that matter, do you even know where you are?"

Selene Larkin stared at her coldly, her eyes filled with scorn. She was a little disappointed.

She had thought the woman might have something of substance to say, but it turned out to be nothing but gibberish.

’Is she deliberately talking nonsense because she doesn’t want to expose the faction behind her?’

The thought left her feeling quite disappointed.

Stella Sterling saw the look on Selene’s face and knew she didn’t believe a word she was saying. She shook her head nonchalantly.

’Oh well, I guess I *am* just spouting nonsense!’

It was true that she knew Miles Sanctus, and he had indeed proposed to her, but she was perfectly clear about his motives.

Her words were indeed nonsense, but seeing the disbelief, Stella Sterling put on an angry expression. "It looks like you don’t believe me. Of course I know this is Sanctyr Base. I also know your boss is named Miles Sanctus."

"Exactly. That’s why I’m telling you he’s my backer. After all, who in Sanctyr Base is more powerful than him?"

"To be honest, your boss is pursuing me. And what you’re doing right now is making me very disappointed. Disappointed in your Sanctyr Base, and disappointed in Miles Sanctus. If Miles Sanctus finds out about this, don’t you think he’ll hold it against you?"

After Stella Sterling finished speaking, a moment of silence was followed by a burst of laughter from the crowd. They all felt this woman had truly lost her mind.

She’d say anything to stay alive now.

Who did she think their boss was?

He was their leader. How could he possibly be her suitor?

Even Selene Larkin found Stella Sterling’s words absurd. She didn’t believe them for a second.

"I know you don’t believe me. Why don’t you go get Miles Sanctus and ask him yourselves?"

"Stop spouting nonsense. Besides, our boss is swamped with work. Why would we bother him with such a trivial matter?"

Selene Larkin sneered. It seemed this woman was determined to oppose them to the very end.

She was still completely unrepentant, insisting on antagonizing them. If that’s how it was going to be, then there was no reason for Selene to hesitate.

At this thought, she shot a look at her subordinates, then gestured for those around her to back away.

She looked at Stella Sterling as if she were already dead. "We gave you a chance. Since you refuse to cherish it and insist on being a glib little liar, don’t blame us for what happens next."

With that, she waved her hand. In the next instant, a deafening ROAR echoed as a cannon shell shot toward Stella Sterling.

Selene Larkin and her people were already a great distance away from Stella Sterling. They looked toward the spot where Stella had been standing. It was now a scene of utter devastation, shrouded in dust.

The massive explosion also sent the other people in the base into a panic.

None of them had misheard it; that was the sound of a shell exploding. What was going on? Why would a sound like that be heard inside the base?

Had something major happened? Was the base under attack?

In an instant, everyone in Sanctyr Base turned to look in that direction.

Some started running in a panic, and the scene descended into chaos.

Selene Larkin looked toward where Stella Sterling had been. After a blast like that, no matter how skilled she was, she was doomed to be blown to bits.

A flicker of regret crossed her eyes. If the woman hadn’t been so arrogant, Selene would have genuinely admired her skills.

’But she was just too stubborn,’ Selene thought. ’She refused to bow her head, constantly humiliated us, and even went so far as to slander Boss Saint’s reputation. If she didn’t deserve to die, who did?’

Gazing at the thick cloud of dust before her, she let out a long sigh. "I’ll have to think about how to explain today’s events to Boss Saint. But this person had a mysterious background and was likely from a hostile faction. With such extraordinary skills, letting her live would have been a huge liability for Sanctyr Base. Killing her today has eliminated a major problem. I’m sure the Boss will understand."

Hearing this, the people around her murmured in agreement.

Selene thought about the commotion. The people in the base must have heard it. She ordered, "The populace will be panicking. Send men to restore order and make sure they don’t cause trouble. Also, have this area repaired. The base just captured a large group of prisoners. Put them to work on the manual labor."

As she issued her commands, the people around her nodded, took note, and went to carry them out.

Mr. and Mrs. Jennings were overjoyed. With a blast like that, the masked woman was surely deader than dead.

This way, their revenge was complete. Moreover, the one who had made such a mess of the base wasn’t them, but Selene Larkin. When the boss investigated, Selene wouldn’t be able to escape the blame. The couple was delighted at this thought.

The arrogant woman who killed their brother was finally dead. And because of her, Selene Larkin had been dragged into the mess. For the couple, this was a truly joyous occasion.

River Larkin stared at the swirling dust in the distance, his expression complex and dazed. ’Stella Sterling is dead? Just like that?’

It was a little simpler than he’d imagined, yet also somewhat complicated. But in the end, she was dead. A great weight had been lifted from his heart.

As for Selene Larkin, he’d just have to explain things to her properly when they got back, and everything would be fine.

A smile appeared on his face. He turned and walked to Selene Larkin’s side. "Selene, no matter how Boss Saint decides to punish you, I’ll face it with you!"

Hearing this, the little bit of anger Selene had felt toward him dissipated. A smile bloomed on her face, and she was just about to speak...

...when a mocking voice cut through the air. "Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not dead yet. Now what? Looks like you’ve been proven wrong again."

Everyone who hadn’t yet left froze at the sound of that voice. Then, in utter disbelief, they all whipped their heads toward where it came from.

They recognized the arrogant, brazen tone. It belonged to the masked woman they thought was deader than dead.

But how was that possible? The shell had landed a direct hit on her position.

How could she possibly have survived?!

Everyone’s eyes were wide with disbelief. They even wondered if they were hearing things, if the shock was making them hallucinate. After all, under those circumstances, death should have been the only outcome.

They followed the sound with their eyes and saw an unfamiliar woman sitting amidst a pile of rubble, smiling at them.
