Chapter 422 - 432: How About Working For Us?
Chapter 422: Chapter 432: How About Working For Us?
She exchanged a look with her husband.
Tripp Jennings patted her shoulder. "Don’t be afraid. This is our turf. No matter how capable this woman is, she can’t escape. She’s destined to fall into our hands."
He had to admit, the woman was certainly formidable, but that was all there was to it.
’If this were out in the open, she might’ve actually escaped. But this is the Sanctyrlands. This is my turf. If I let her get away, how could I ever show my face again? How could Sanctyr Base show its face?’
At this thought, he shot a look of appreciation at the scrawny man. He hadn’t expected this; he’d underestimated him.
’For him to be able to capture such a formidable woman... he must’ve been hiding his true strength.’
’He’d really made me see him in a new light this time.’
Unfortunately, the scrawny man was unconscious and had no idea what was going through Tripp Jennings’s mind.
If he knew, he would have just found it baffling, because even he had no idea what was going on.
If the woman had demonstrated this level of strength from the start, he never would have been able to capture her on that barren mountain.
But alas, he was now unconscious, and no one knew what he was thinking.
Tripp Jennings glared at Stella Sterling and said coldly, "You bitch, I know you’re tough. But this is Sanctyr Base. You think you can just do as you please?"
Stella Sterling dusted off her hands, a look of distaste on her face. She glanced at him. "I don’t know about doing as I please, but I’m pretty sure killing you right now would be easy."
At her words, Tripp Jennings’s pupils shrank, and he stumbled back a few steps in fear.
Stella Sterling burst into wild, unrestrained laughter.
Tripp Jennings felt humiliated, and his expression darkened. This time, it was Queenie Walsh who stepped in to comfort him. "Don’t be angry, honey. You can see she’s just a sharp-tongued bitch. Let’s stop talking and just grab her."
As she spoke, she charged toward Stella Sterling again.
The couple hadn’t clawed their way to a minor leadership position in the base by pure luck. Both of them were capable and skilled fighters.
’I only got sent flying by her before because I underestimated her. I never thought she could still fight while tied up.’
’I let my guard down for a second, and she got the better of me.’
’But it’s different now. I know how dangerous this woman is. I won’t underestimate her again. I’m prepared. There’s no way she’ll beat me as easily as she did before! Impossible!’
She lunged at Stella Sterling with the ferocity of a tiger descending a mountain, her body radiating a palpable, murderous aura.
Stella Sterling narrowed her eyes, and the next moment, kicked out again.
The next instant, the woman’s body was sent flying once more. The result was identical to the first time, with no difference at all.
Tripp Jennings’s pupils contracted in surprise.
He ran toward his wife. Don’t let his fat fool you; though his flesh jiggled with every step, he was surprisingly agile and fast.
He caught his wife’s body before she hit the ground.
He looked at Stella Sterling with a grave expression. "Who the hell are you?"
’How could Derek have provoked someone like this!’
Stella Sterling spread her hands. "You’re the ones who brought me here, and now you’re asking who I am? Are you nuts?"
Tripp Jennings didn’t get angry. His gaze was fixed on Stella Sterling, his expression grave. He asked, "Was it you who killed Derek Walsh?"
"Who’s Derek Walsh? I don’t know him."
Stella Sterling raised an eyebrow, her attitude as dismissive as ever.
Seeing her reaction, Tripp Jennings grew doubtful. ’Could it be we got the wrong person? That she wasn’t the one who did it?’
’An identical mask doesn’t prove a thing.’
’At this point, I kind of hope we do have the wrong person.’
Queenie Walsh was about to speak, but Tripp Jennings shot her a look, and she immediately fell silent, standing by without a word.
Tripp Jennings thought for a moment before speaking. "You killed him, didn’t you? Stop pretending. Honestly, my original plan was to kill you. But now, I’ve changed my mind. I can see you’re a skilled fighter. How about you submit to us? Work for us, and I can let the matter of you killing Derek Walsh slide. I can even give you a life of wealth and privilege."
Hearing this, Queenie Walsh grew agitated. "She killed Derek! How can we not hold her accountable? She has to die, or I’ll never be able to quell the hatred in my heart!"
Stella Sterling, who was standing opposite them, heard this and said with a smirk, "It seems you two haven’t reached an agreement. Your wife doesn’t seem to be on board with your plan!"
After a moment’s thought, she decided she should stick to her story and added, "Oh, and by the way, I really didn’t kill Derek Walsh."
But the look on her face as she said it was one of utter indifference.
Her words carried very little weight.
Tripp Jennings looked at his wife and whispered in her ear, "Derek is already dead. If we want to avenge him, we’ll have plenty of chances later. This woman is skilled, and we’re short-staffed right now. We can make her work for us, use her to our advantage."
"And when she’s no longer useful—"
As he said this, a vicious glint flashed in his eyes.
When Queenie Walsh heard this, her agitation began to subside.
She had originally planned for Derek to join them. With a capable subordinate, the couple could have improved their position in the base.
But now Derek was gone, and they didn’t have any other prospects. This woman... her skills were undeniably impressive...
’Still...’
She looked at Stella Sterling and didn’t say anything more. It seemed she had tacitly agreed to Tripp Jennings’s approach.
At this moment, Tripp Jennings’s gaze on Stella Sterling softened. He said with a broad smile, "If you’re willing to run with us, we won’t let your talents go to waste. So, what do you think of my offer?"
"What’s going on over there?"
A few passersby not far off saw the scene and commented, looking puzzled.
"I heard that Tripp Jennings caught the person who killed his wife’s brother."
"But from the looks of it, that person’s a real handful."
A tall woman remarked teasingly to the person beside her.
The person next to her, however, had their gaze fixed on Stella Sterling, a hint of confusion in their eyes.
’Strange... why does her silhouette look so familiar?’
Seeing the person beside her not speaking, the tall woman looked over at the man with confusion. When she saw his gaze was fixed on the woman without moving, displeasure flashed in her eyes. "River Larkin, I’m talking to you. Why aren’t you saying anything?"
