Chapter 415 - 425: Moving the Pig
Chapter 415: Chapter 425: Moving the Pig
"What are you gawking at? Go get some people! Unless you don’t plan on eating pork tonight!"
Stella Sterling’s casual words immediately sent Andrew Shaw into a panic.
"I’m going, I’m going! I’ll go right now! Pork! We’re eating pork! Miss, please don’t take it away! I’ll go get people to move it right now!"
He was already opening the car door and getting out as he spoke, before speeding off into the distance.
He nearly tripped several times, a clear sign of his extraordinary excitement and inner turmoil.
After all, he’d been living here for days, surviving on nothing but dry rations or watery soups and porridges so thin you could see the bottom of the bowl.
Life was tough!
Of course, he knew everyone was suffering in the apocalypse. Just having something to eat every day was already a blessing.
But what could he do? He’d had it too good following Stella Sterling before, eating well every day with plenty of meat.
He had grown accustomed to it. Even at their worst, they at least had fragrant, white-flour steamed buns.
They weren’t just delicious; more importantly, they were filling. But these past few days... he didn’t even dare to think about them.
Now that he finally had a chance to eat pork, how could he not be thrilled?
A boar this big would be enough for all thirty or forty of them to eat their fill for a long time!
’Fresh pork.’ Just the thought made his mouth water. He could almost smell the rich, meaty aroma drifting on the air.
He had been fantasizing about having a barbecue, but he never expected his wish to come true so quickly.
Even if it wasn’t a barbecue, any other way was fine. As long as it was meat, it would be delicious.
Andrew Shaw practically left a trail of drool all the way back.
Stella Sterling watched him run off and shook her head, but her own eyes held a hint of anticipation.
’It’s not like I’m short on food or drink. I can eat meat every day.’
’But that’s all stuff I prepared in advance. It’s not the same as what you can make with fresh pork.’
’Even though I have perfectly preserved, butchered pork in my space, it’s just not the same as this wild boar.’
’It’s not just because it’s wild boar. More importantly, this pork practically delivered itself to my doorstep!’
’It was personally delivered right into my hands for the tasting. Eating it will feel completely different.’
Besides, she was curious. This boar had been manifested by her space and then turned into a real, tangible creature.
’It was created entirely by my space. I wonder how different its meat will be from a regular wild boar’s.’
’Thinking of her space, now brimming with spiritual energy,’ Stella Sterling thought, ’it has to be incredibly delicious.’
’As she thought about it, she felt her own mouth starting to water.’
But she was a person of immense self-control. How could she allow such a thing to happen? She calmly took out a tissue and dabbed the corner of her mouth.
Then she looked back at the wild boar in her car, a flash of disgust in her eyes.
The boar hadn’t been bludgeoned to death; there were no wounds on its body. It was perfectly intact, with not a drop of blood to be seen.
Still, the gamey smell was quite strong.
’I should’ve gotten out of the car before materializing the boar. Who knows how many days it will take to air out this smell.’
’Luckily, I don’t need the vehicle for the time being, so I’ll have a few days to air it out properly.’
’Otherwise, I’d have to seriously consider getting a new car!’
Staring at the boar before her, she was already running through numerous cooking methods in her mind.
She just wondered if Felix Lawrence had the right ingredients here.
’I have plenty in my space, of course, but it wouldn’t be convenient to take them out.’
’Bringing back a wild boar was something I could explain. After all, we’re surrounded by deep mountains and forests. It’s perfectly normal to accidentally run into a wild boar and kill it. Nothing strange about that at all!’
’But if I were to also just happen to have a full set of spices on me, that would be suspicious!’
She had a good impression of Felix Lawrence and believed he wasn’t the type to betray a friend. Still, it was best to keep some things secret to avoid unnecessary complications.
Sean Shaw was different. He was completely loyal to her, and she wasn’t afraid to reveal any of her secrets to him.
Still, after a moment’s thought, Stella Sterling retrieved a bag of salt from her space.
She didn’t ask for much, but salt was the bare minimum. If Felix Lawrence didn’t have any, it would be awkward for her to produce some later. Eating this boar without salt would be an absolute waste.
In just that short amount of time, she heard a commotion in the distance. Judging by the footsteps, it sounded like four or five people.
Stella Sterling opened the car door and got out. She saw Felix Lawrence approaching with several other people.
Andrew Shaw, with his short legs, was trailing behind them.
When Felix Lawrence saw Stella Sterling, his eyes lit up. The man who was usually so calm and composed in her presence now looked visibly eager.
"Miss Sterling, your guy told me you went out today and bagged a wild boar. Is it true?"
As he spoke, he stared at Stella Sterling with gleaming eyes. Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought he wanted to eat *her*.
Even the men behind him were watching her, their faces full of anticipation.
Heaven knows how incredulous they were when Andrew Shaw had come running back in a panic, telling them Miss Sterling had gotten a wild boar and needed their help to move it.
A wild boar... In this apocalypse, people had little to eat, and the animals weren’t faring much better. Even surrounded by desolate mountains and old forests, they rarely saw any sign of wildlife.
They’d seen plenty of animal carcasses, but those were just sun-bleached skeletons with not a scrap of meat left.
So, when they first heard what Andrew Shaw said, they didn’t believe him at all. They thought he was just messing with them.
This was especially true for Felix Lawrence. Just that morning, he and Andrew had been talking about having a barbecue, and that very evening, Andrew was telling him they’d gotten a wild boar.
It made him suspect Andrew Shaw was just hallucinating from his cravings and making it up.
But Andrew Shaw was completely serious. Seeing their disbelief, he grew even more anxious, repeatedly assuring them it was true and urging them to hurry and help bring it back.
Seeing the look on his face, Felix Lawrence started to believe him a little, as incredible as it sounded.
He was even more convinced when Andrew Shaw mentioned that Miss Sterling had brought it back and was waiting with it now.
The kid was Miss Sterling’s subordinate; even if he was going to pull a prank, he probably wouldn’t use Miss Sterling’s name for it.
