Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 404 - 414: The Space’s Craving

Chapter 404: Chapter 414: The Space’s Craving

After all, he wasn’t just responsible for himself. He had a wife and kids.

If he died, he couldn’t even imagine what his wife and children would go through in this apocalypse.

So, people could call him a coward or whatever they wanted. As long as he could live, he was happy.

However, when he glanced around, he saw that aside from a few people, most didn’t have looks of schadenfreude or the ridicule he had imagined.

Instead, most of them looked relieved for him.

In this apocalypse, no one was really better off than anyone else. If it had been someone else, they probably would have reacted the same way he did.

’After all, who doesn’t want to live!’

Everyone was struggling desperately in this apocalypse, relying on a powerful will to live just to make it this far.

Having survived for so long, nobody wanted to lose their life so senselessly.

If they had provoked an enemy themselves, then they would have deserved to die, just like Attorney Walsh.

He did nothing but swindle people. Today, he finally ran into someone ruthless and had his life ended. Although people felt a bit somber, no one mourned for him.

Before this, people had actually tried to warn him not to act like that, because you never know what kind of person has managed to survive in the apocalypse.

He was always swindling people; he was bound to run into trouble sooner or later!

But relying on his connections, he completely disregarded everyone’s advice and even arrogantly mocked them.

So now that he had met such an end, no one pitied him or felt much of anything.

But it was different for those who hadn’t gone around provoking others. If they were to get dragged into something and lose their lives for no reason, that would be too unjust.

Seeing everyone’s expressions, the man also sighed in relief.

To survive, he hadn’t been able to care about much else, not even whether they would laugh at him.

But this outcome still made him happy. After all, he had to keep making a living here, and it would have been tough to face mocking gazes every day.

Seeing how things were now, he could finally relax.

Then, he looked toward Stella Sterling.

He saw that she wasn’t looking his way. After kicking Derek Walsh’s body aside, the items he had been lying on were revealed.

The masked woman was rummaging through the pile of things, looking like she had no intention of bothering with him anymore.

At that moment, his constantly tense heart finally, completely relaxed.

’She said she wouldn’t kill me, so she probably won’t make a move. Looks like I was overthinking things!’

Stella Sterling indeed paid him no more mind. She bent down and picked up a bead from the stall.

The object was hidden among a pile of junk and wasn’t very noticeable.

Stella hadn’t really noticed it before either.

At a glance, it was just an ordinary bead that no one would give a second look.

But Stella felt a craving from her space. Especially when she touched the bead, she could feel that craving from the space grow even stronger.

Stella Sterling picked up the bead and held it in her hand, observing it for a long while, but she still couldn’t figure out what material it was made of.

It truly looked like the most ordinary thing imaginable.

Even now, she still felt it was an ordinary object. But she knew that anything her space craved couldn’t be simple. It had to be beneficial to the space; otherwise, it wouldn’t react like this.

’This might be made of some special material that I just can’t identify.’

Closing her hand, she clutched the bead and put it in her pocket, though it actually went into her space.

She planned to toss the bead into the exchange area when she got back to see what kind of reaction it would cause.

After doing all this, she glanced down at Derek Walsh’s body again.

She scanned the pile of goods at his stall once more. ’I can’t believe I found something that interests my space at this little stall. What about the other things?’

With this in mind, she scanned over the items one by one, paying close attention to her space’s reaction.

However, the space didn’t react again. ’There probably isn’t anything else good here!’

To say there was nothing good wasn’t entirely true. Given how pained David Walsh looked earlier, some of these items must have been valuable.

But for Stella Sterling, these things were of little use. They weren’t made of any special materials, so she couldn’t feed them to her space.

So, Stella didn’t bother collecting them. Instead, she looked at the man she had frightened earlier.

She pointed at the things on the ground. "Do you want these?"

The man immediately shook his head nonstop. "No, no, I don’t want any of it, miss. Besides, it should all be yours."

’Are you kidding me? This woman is ruthless. How could I dare take them?’

He even suspected she was deliberately testing him. If he dared to say yes, she would deal with him just like she dealt with Daniel Walsh.

His face was a mask of misery. He could only curse his bad luck for setting up his stall right next to Attorney Walsh.

If he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have run into this terrifying woman.

"If you don’t want them, then forget it."

Stella Sterling shook her head. She felt a tiny bit bad about scaring the man and had thought about giving him these items so he could trade them for some food.

’Consider it a rare act of kindness, a compensation of sorts!’

But unexpectedly, the man didn’t want them. Likewise, Stella Sterling wasn’t in the habit of forcing gifts on people.

So, after his refusal, she turned and left.

Her reaction left the man stunned for a moment. She just left? ’Doesn’t she want the stuff on the ground?!’

’So when she asked if I wanted them... she was actually trying to give them to me?!’

At this thought, the man felt a pang of regret.

And in that brief moment, several people were already jogging toward Attorney Walsh’s stall.

They scrambled to divide up the goods. After all, the items were worth something, and they might be able to trade them with someone who needed them for things they needed themselves.

The man quickly snapped out of it. Being close by, he managed to grab one item as well.

As for those who reacted too slowly, they got nothing.
