Chapter 367: Why Is He Only Five Years Old
Chapter 367: Chapter 367: Why Is He Only Five Years Old
Night gradually fell, and Stella Sterling slowly woke up.
She gazed at the distant village. The daytime temperatures were likely too high—scorching, even.
No one was moving about; they were probably all indoors, sleeping and trying to escape the heat.
And now that night had fallen, while the temperature hadn’t dropped significantly, it was still a little cooler than during the day.
In the small village ahead, people were beginning to come out and move around.
Wearing night-vision goggles, Stella Sterling could see figures moving in the distance.
Ever since the extreme heat began, most people had fallen into this routine.
They rested at home during the day to conserve energy, only venturing out to find food at night.
It was much like how Stella Sterling now traveled by night and rested by day.
Their daily schedules had been completely reversed.
"What are you looking at?"
Andrew Shaw had woken up as well. Seeing Stella Sterling looking into the distance, he asked curiously.
In the pitch-black night, he couldn’t see anything in the distance, only what was close by.
"Just scouting the enemy for you!"
Stella Sterling said with a laugh.
"Here, your steamed bun. Eat up. You’ll need your strength for the fight ahead."
She took off the night-vision goggles and tossed a steamed bun to Andrew Shaw.
Then, she took out a whole fried chicken for herself to eat.
Andrew Shaw caught the steamed bun and wolfed it down in a few bites before looking at Stella Sterling. "Ma’am, I’ve got a tough battle to fight tonight. Any chance you could upgrade my meal?"
He’d learned his lesson this time. Even if he wanted something else, he’d eat the steamed bun first before opening his mouth.
Otherwise, he was afraid he’d lose even this bun.
Hearing this, Stella Sterling turned and gave him a look.
Andrew Shaw immediately felt it was a lost cause.
’Oh well. I did consider killing someone today, after all.’
’She didn’t kill me and is only making me eat steamed buns for a few days. I should be grateful.’
So he didn’t say anything more. But just then, a large chicken drumstick was held out in front of him.
He glanced over at Stella Sterling, but she wasn’t looking at him.
She continued eating her fried chicken, but her hand didn’t move back.
Andrew Shaw was silent for two seconds, his feelings complicated.
"What, you don’t like it? If not, then I’ll just..."
"No, no, no! I love it! I really, really love it!"
Andrew Shaw quickly looked up, snatched the drumstick from Stella Sterling’s hand, and took a huge bite, letting out a blissful sigh.
Stella Sterling paid him no more mind and went back to finishing her own dinner.
She finished the entire large fried chicken by herself, then took out a self-heating hotpot and quickly dispatched that as well.
Afterward, she even ate some fruit.
Only then did she feel about seventy or eighty percent full.
At that point, Stella Sterling finally stopped eating.
’Lately, it’s been nothing but sitting in the car. Eat, sleep, wake up, drive. With no physical activity, I feel like I’ve already gained a few pounds.’
Andrew Shaw ate while occasionally glancing at Stella Sterling.
’Her things can’t just be appearing out of thin air,’ he thought. ’She must have some kind of storage item.’
’If that’s the case, then she must have stored all this stuff herself beforehand.’
He was extremely curious. Had she collected all these supplies after the apocalypse began, or had she prepared them before it even started?
He felt the first scenario was unlikely.
After all, among the items she had taken out over the past few days, besides the things that were ready to eat, he noticed there were also many pre-cooked meals.
But since the apocalypse began, no one would be preparing such things—unless she made them herself.
Therefore, he guessed that her supplies had likely been prepared before the apocalypse.
’Why did she prepare all this so far in advance?’
’Did she have some kind of premonition and prepare ahead of time, or is there another reason?’
Several thoughts raced through Andrew Shaw’s mind.
But in the end, they were just his own speculations. He didn’t have the courage to ask the woman these questions, so he could only suppress his doubts and keep them buried in his heart.
"Have you eaten your fill? Then it’s time to get moving."
"Yes. Let’s go."
Andrew Shaw nodded, and Stella Sterling handed him something.
Andrew Shaw took it uncertainly. When he saw what it was, his eyes lit up, and he put it on.
Instantly, his world changed.
Even though it was nighttime, his vision became crystal clear.
He whispered, "This is great stuff. With this to help me, I’m much more confident."
With that, he opened the car door and hopped out. Stella Sterling, also geared up, jumped out and shut her door.
Her movements were crisp and cool.
Andrew Shaw turned to look, an expression that didn’t match his childish face appearing on it.
A flash of awe crossed his eyes, and he gulped.
’I have to admit,’ he thought, ’her mental state might be a little off, but she’s undeniably gorgeous.’
’And that move just now was so simple, but when she does it, it looks so cool and beautiful.’
’I’ve seen plenty of heroic and impressive women in the apocalypse, but for some reason, they all seem to be lacking something compared to the one beside me.’
At this thought, he looked down at himself.
He couldn’t help but feel a little deflated.
’I’m too young. Right now, I’m just too young.’
’If I were just a little older... This woman is so capable, and she has so many resources.’
’No matter how you look at it, I would definitely go after her.’
’Too bad I’m only five years old right now. I don’t have a single advantage.’
He looked up at the sky again.
’Why? Why let me transmigrate back but not into a stronger body? Why did I have to end up in the body of a little kid?’
’And to top it all off, you put such a skilled and powerful woman right next to me, but I can only look and have absolutely no chance with her. Isn’t this just a huge form of torture for me?’
"What are you thinking about, spacing out like that?"
Stella Sterling glanced down at him, her tone teasing. "If you’re scared, that’s fine. You’re still little, after all. I can understand. I can just go by myself today."
Hearing this, Andrew Shaw immediately grew anxious. "No way! That won’t do! Who says I’m scared? I was just thinking up a strategy! Let’s go, let’s go, we’ll head out right now! Ma’am, you just wait, I’ll show you what I’m made of! I need to show you I’m not just a freeloader. I pull my weight too, you know!"
Saying this, he marched forward on his short little legs.
Stella Sterling raised an eyebrow and followed behind him.
