Chapter 356: Abandoned City
Chapter 356: Chapter 356: Abandoned City
In that instant, it was as if they had been transported from one world to another.
But the two of them had seen plenty of the apocalypse’s cruelty, even sights far more brutal than this, so they quickly adjusted.
They moved through the city.
Stella Sterling was planning to find a decent place to properly relax for a bit.
This relaxation wasn’t just about resting and eating; it was about finding some semblance of a normal life.
However, after walking for a long time, she had only seen a handful of people. And these people were either teenagers or people in their fifties and sixties—all of them vulnerable.
A stench of decay also hung in the air above the city.
This was unlike Mirefall, which had several bases nearby. After the disaster, those bases managed the area and rescued people.
Although Mirefall was also currently abandoned, there were still quite a few people living there.
But this place was different. It had become a complete ghost town.
Every few steps, they would see another corpse, emitting a putrid smell.
Back when disasters struck frequently, no one was in charge here. The death toll was several times higher than in other places, and the bodies were left unattended. Now, baking under the sun, they released a nauseating odor.
Stella Sterling had already put on a mask.
She didn’t speak, simply walking through the city.
She had now given up on the idea of resting here for a while. There was simply no way to get a good rest; the smell alone was so foul and pervasive.
But she didn’t leave right away either. Instead, she began to explore the city, paying particular attention to the collapsed buildings.
Along the way, whenever she saw something she needed, she collected it into her space.
Many things were crushed beneath skyscrapers, buried in the rubble, but this wasn’t a major problem for Stella Sterling.
With a single thought, she would absorb the rubble into her space, and with another, it would reappear elsewhere.
The items crushed underneath were revealed.
Her control over the space had grown increasingly proficient. Collecting and releasing items was no longer as troublesome as before; she could now accomplish it with a single thought, precisely targeting anything she needed.
She could even use the space to do many, many things for her.
This made things much more convenient for Stella Sterling. She could easily accomplish what many people found impossible when it came to collecting supplies.
Unfortunately, aside from some dry goods that could be stored for a long time, so much time had passed since the apocalypse that many things were already damaged or rotten.
There was very little that was edible.
Most of the remaining items were also damp.
But Stella Sterling wasn’t picky. After passing an area and confirming no one was nearby, she would get to work.
Andrew Shaw followed behind Stella Sterling, taking in every last detail.
He went from initial shock to numbness, and then to a certain fear.
’This woman... what on earth is this ability?’
’This is completely beyond the capabilities of a normal person, right?’
’There’s no way I’d believe she isn’t a superpower user!’
’But if superpower users exist in this world, why did I never even hear about them in my past life?’
’It can’t be that she’s the only superpower user to have awakened in the entire world, can it?’
’If that’s the case, then this woman is just too lucky. She’s practically a chosen one, blessed by the heavens.’
Things appeared and vanished from thin air. He was now certain she must have something like a storage space with her.
This kind of thing, which he had only ever heard about but never seen, actually existed.
But he also felt that Stella Sterling’s methods were more than just a simple storage space. It was a little different from what he had heard.
Most importantly, as he watched Stella Sterling so brazenly display these abilities right in front of him, his heart was truly pounding with fear.
He couldn’t help but feel incredibly fortunate that he was still of some use.
Otherwise, having learned so many of this woman’s secrets, who else would die if not him?
Eventually, he just gave up trying to make sense of it. He already knew so much. If this woman wanted to kill him, she would have done it long ago. The fact that she had let him live meant she probably had no intention of doing so for the time being.
He also understood one more thing very clearly: the reason she was so brazenly displaying her power in front of him was likely as a warning. She was showing him how formidable she was to tell him not to make any rash moves.
And there was another blatant point... that she dared to display her abilities like this without any fear that he would leak her strange powers to others.
She probably had complete confidence in her ability to control him. If he made any wrong moves, she could eliminate him instantly. With that kind of power, she really didn’t need to be afraid of anything he might do.
At this moment, Andrew Shaw’s feelings were somewhat complicated.
But he quickly pushed those thoughts aside and followed behind Stella Sterling to help.
Although, he discovered he couldn’t really be of much help. Stella Sterling didn’t need his help; she could solve even difficult problems all by herself.
He was just a little tail tagging along behind her, unable to help with anything.
However, while he couldn’t help physically, he could still do something for morale. So, he stood to the side, quietly clapping and cheering to root for Stella Sterling.
From time to time, he would even throw in some flattery.
However, this only earned him a displeased glance from Stella Sterling.
Andrew Shaw looked innocent.
Stella Sterling looked at him coldly. "Are you making such a racket because you want to attract others so they can see this?"
Andrew Shaw was taken aback. Right, he had forgotten about that.
He’d assumed that since she was so casually displaying her abilities in front of him, she wasn’t afraid of being discovered by others. That was why he hadn’t given it much thought.
But now it seemed he had been wrong again!
This woman did treat him differently from others. At least, judging by her actions, she wasn’t afraid of *him* knowing, but she didn’t want *others* to know.
As he thought of this, he grew faintly excited. What did this mean?
’It means she approves of me! She sees me as one of her own!’
That little bit of fear and worry in his heart vanished completely.
He quieted down, but then said in a low voice, "With your abilities, even if someone discovered you, you could totally handle it. Are you really worried about them? There’s no need to worry at all!"
