Chapter 484 - 480: Didn’t You Want to Die?
Chapter 484: Chapter 480: Didn’t You Want to Die?
"There’s someone inside," Cres confirmed with a firm nod.
More than that, there were quite a few people inside.
"Seven people," Cres stated the exact number, his brow furrowing slightly. "Two of them have vital signs that are about to give out."
"Cres, you can use your spiritual power to check people’s vital signs?" Xue Feng, a member of Team A, asked with curiosity.
Cres wore a smug look. "It’s simple. Most of us Spiritual Assistance System Superpower Users can do it."
Xie Ning watched in amusement.
’This kid. Trying to be modest, but he can’t even hide his proudly wagging tail.’
’It wasn’t simple at all, and it certainly wasn’t something every Spiritual Ability User could do.’
Lu Wei was the first to approach the door, turning to glance at Gu Chen and Xie Ning.
They both nodded at him, so Lu Wei reached out and knocked tentatively on the door twice.
A burst of panicked, chaotic shouting erupted from inside.
A woman shrieked, "The zombies are here!"
"Bullshit, zombies don’t knock!"
"That’s not knocking! They’re clearly ramming it! The zombies are ramming the door. So this day has finally come... It’s finally here, hahaha! I’m free! I’m about to be free!"
Outside, the group exchanged strange looks.
Growing impatient, Xie Ning stepped forward without another word and directly melted the security door’s iron lock.
With a THUD, she kicked open the heavy inner door.
The loud crash of the door being forced open startled everyone inside.
Xie Ning and Gu Chen entered the house, one after the other.
Lu Wei stepped in after them. He immediately summoned a Wood Vine and smashed the blaring little speaker on the floor.
The world was finally quiet.
The three men and four women in the room stared in terror at Xie Ning and the other intruders.
"Who are you?"
A few members of Team A quickly entered and swept the room. "Clear."
Xie Ning raised her eyes and scanned the room.
The house wasn’t large; it was clearly impossible for everyone to squeeze into the living room.
So she turned and told Song Youzhi and the others to stay outside.
The small living room, which must have once been elegantly furnished, was now a complete disaster, spattered with bloodstains.
Three men and two women were instinctively huddled together. The other two women lay in a corner of the room, looking as if they were on their last breath.
Song Kexin poked her head in, her eyes darting around the room. "What are you all doing? Playing music at a time like this? Are you trying to die faster or something?"
Just then, an older woman’s previously vacant eyes started to focus. A stiff, unnatural smile slowly formed on her face.
"You’re not zombies? You’re not infected!"
A member of Team A grinned. "Ma’am, do we look like zombies to you? Since when can zombies hold a conversation?"
"You’re from the government, here to rescue us, right?" The woman, as if lit by a sudden flame, leaped to her feet and rushed forward.
Xie Ning’s Metal Knife suddenly barred her path. Xie Ning narrowed her eyes at the woman. "I smell something rotten on you."
"Everyone, be careful. This woman has a mutated bug on her," Cres’s warning echoed through the Spirit Net.
"Fire Ability Users to the front," Cres commanded.
Song Kexin and Housekeeper Youen quickly squeezed forward a few steps.
"Wait for my command. When I give the word, create a fire wall in front of you to block it."
"Roger!"
"Roger."
As Housekeeper Youen and Song Kexin replied in succession, everyone else turned to look nervously into the room.
The expression of the woman blocked by Xie Ning instantly darkened.
"Since you’re the official rescue team, you must know about our situation! You have to help me! Help me!"
A young woman beside her scowled. "Sister Huang, what do you think you’re doing? Didn’t we just agree we’d all light the fire and die together? Are you backing out now?"
Xie Ning was speechless.
The woman called Sister Huang turned to the young woman, her face grim. "That was only because we had no other choice! Now that a rescue team is here, why should I die with the likes of you?"
"What else can you do but die?" the young woman yelled, distraught. "We agreed to die together after our final party! How can you go back on your word like that?"
Everyone was speechless.
"Stop arguing!" a middle-aged man beside them barked, his face grim. He shot Sister Huang a hostile look.
"How much longer do you think you have? Rather than drag on in unbearable pain, it’s better to join us..."
"Wait, wait, wait," Song Kexin couldn’t help but interrupt, looking completely baffled. "So you were blasting this ’party ’til you drop’ music, all THUMP THUMP THUMP, because you planned to... have one last rave and then commit group suicide?!"
’What is wrong with these people?’
The young woman burst into tears. "What choice do we have but to die? We’ve been infested by sand worms! Within three days, those mutated bugs will have eaten us down to the bone."
"Rather than suffer for three more days, it’s easier to have one last party and then just jump."
Xie Ning didn’t know what to say. She just took a small step aside, turned away silently, and said, "Let’s go."
Everyone was once again speechless.
’There was something inexplicably comical about Captain Xie’s straightforward, no-nonsense attitude...’
Gu Chen was the first to move and follow her. The members of Team A, though completely bewildered, saw their captain on the move and followed suit.
"Wait! All of you, wait!" Sister Huang couldn’t help but yell angrily. "What kind of people are you? Aren’t you the rescue team? You’re just leaving? What is the meaning of this?"
Xie Ning glanced back at them. "Aren’t you all planning to kill yourselves after your little party? You weren’t planning on inviting us to watch, were you?"
The look of utter disdain on her face was the last straw for Sister Huang’s frayed nerves.
Sister Huang roared, completely hysterical, "I don’t want to die! I’m not going to die! I don’t want to die! Take me with you! Take me with you right now!"
Yu Tianfeng quickly squeezed through the door. "Ma’am, please don’t get so agitated! Becoming this agitated will only stimulate the mutated bugs inside you."
"Your current situation is... not looking good."
Yu Tianfeng tried to take a few more steps forward, but a light kick from Xie Ning sent him shuffling back two steps.
"Xiao Yu!" Song You’ai called out worriedly from her spot squeezed by the door. "Get out of there, quick! Are the mutated bugs on that woman contagious?"
"Don’t worry, Aunt Song, I’m wearing a full protective suit!" Yu Tianfeng held out his hands, showing off his rubber gloves.
"Ningning, I’ll go over and check on her."
Xie Ning knew he was just interested in a new test subject, but she still felt uneasy.
"If you have to examine someone, examine the man over there." Xie Ning frowned slightly. "Among all of them, his condition is a little better."
"That’s right!" Cres immediately chimed in. "It’s strange. All of their vital signs are dropping, and fast. Only that man’s condition is somewhat stable."
The middle-aged man they were all pointing to finally realized what was happening, and a glimmer of hope appeared on his face.
