Chapter 475 - 471: Blaming the Victim
Chapter 475: Chapter 471: Blaming the Victim
They each held a wooden club and carried bricks and stones. A crowd of them swarmed forward, ready to smash the vehicles. Their methods seemed quite practiced.
This definitely wasn’t their first time doing this kind of business.
And the fact they dared to rob a convoy of this size showed they were no strangers to murder and plunder.
"Holy shit, they’re going to smash the cars!" Li Dawei leaped up from his stool. "Brothers, what are we wasting words on them for? Fight!"
The members of the Fierce Tiger Squad from Car Five were the first to get out. They grabbed a few of the old men who were trying to smash the car and, without a second thought, gave them a sound beating.
The crowd instantly grew even more chaotic.
With a BANG from a gunshot, Li Dawei’s movements paused for a moment.
A metal plate suddenly rose up in front of him, blocking a black projectile fired by one of the old men.
Xie Ning shot him a speechless glance. "Are you an idiot? If these people dare to attack, they must have guns. Go for the leader first."
Li Dawei, his senses returning to him, patted his chest. "Thanks, village beauty!"
Everyone: ...
Xie Ning turned and walked away, expressionless. ’I must have been kicked in the head by a donkey,’ she thought, ’to save a guy like this.’
Warning shots rang out from the front of the convoy. It must have been the Superpower Team firing into the air.
This group of grass-skirt-wearing uncles and grannies was mostly made up of a middle-aged and elderly team. They had no real fighting style, just mindlessly smashing whatever they saw.
Li Dawei subdued a few of the fiercest old men, planted a foot on one of their backs, and roared, "Who the fuck wants to try that again? Watch your heads!"
The other members of the Fierce Tiger Squad charged forward. They started by indiscriminately stabbing a scarred old man to death, and the situation around Car Five was instantly brought under control.
Many fled in a panic, shrieking, "They’re killing people! They’re killing people!"
"Burn the body. Don’t let it mutate," Li Dawei ordered in a low voice. The members of the elderly group were so scared they didn’t dare breathe.
The area around Car Nine was the first to be secured.
Zhu Yong leaped from the vehicle and raised an earth wall around it to prevent the tires and windows from being damaged. Then, the rest of the Starfire Team rushed out, grabbing people and pinning them to the ground to be beaten.
They beat them first and asked questions later.
The middle-aged and elderly group had never encountered such ferocious team members. They didn’t waste any words, just pinned you down and gave you a sound thrashing. No matter how hard you cried, they ignored you.
"You dare smash our cars?" Housekeeper Youen pressed down on an old man’s head and gave a chilling smile. "You’re all tired of living, aren’t you?"
The old man’s face turned pale with fear. All his earlier bravado was gone. He repeatedly cupped his hands and begged for mercy, "Friend, friend! Foreign friend, please, have mercy, have mercy!"
"I don’t understand what the fuck you’re blabbering about!"
The old man looked completely baffled before Housekeeper Youen knocked him to the ground with a single punch. "Ow, ow," he groaned, clutching his lower back.
’If he can’t understand, how can he still use quintessentially Chinese slang like "blabbering"...’
"What are you all standing around for? Tie up all these troublemakers."
"Don’t let a single one get away."
Meanwhile, Zhuang Xinyi, sitting in Car Six, covered her face and cried out in fear, "Can’t you just talk things out? Why do you have to be so barbaric and beat people up?"
The other members of the Revitalization Team completely ignored her...
Zheng Feina, in particular, followed her brother Zheng Heng out of the car. The two siblings fought the most viciously.
They showed no mercy to anyone who drew a knife, blasting them directly with their superpowers. If they killed someone, they’d just start a fire and burn the body.
After a round of fighting, the middle-aged and elderly group finally understood what kind of steel plate they had just kicked.
Someone in the chaotic crowd was whistling nonstop.
Xie Ning threw out a golden lock, yanking the man with the tattooed arms from the crowd and dragging him harshly to the ground.
BAM! The man hit the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Who do you think you are, some kind of righteous outlaw? Whistling to signal a retreat?" Xie Ning dragged the man right in front of her.
The tattooed "hero" stumbled a few steps before falling flat on his face in front of Xie Ning again, getting a mouthful of dirt and sand.
"Let me see who’s capable enough to organize so many people to rob passing vehicles here."
The tattooed man groaned, "Ow, ow," and squinted his small eyes to look up.
He saw a young woman in a short down jacket. Her head and face were almost completely hidden by a scarf and hat, revealing only a pair of eyes as cold and sharp as blades.
Her gaze was terrifying!
"Wh-what do you want?" the tattooed man blustered. "D-do you know who I am?"
"I’m telling you, don’t you dare try anything funny."
Without another word, Xie Ning tightened the glittering golden chain.
Instantly, the other end of the long chain clamped firmly around the tattooed man’s throat, choking him. He made a guttural GAGGING sound, his face turning purple as he was unable to speak.
"My boy!" A mournful cry suddenly came from outside the crowd. Amidst the howling, sandy wind and biting cold, it sounded exceptionally tragic and desolate.
Everyone looked up to see an old woman stumbling and staggering toward the tattooed man, throwing herself to the ground to embrace the large man.
"What are you doing? Are you trying to kill him?" The old hag lifted her face, so gaunt it barely looked human, her sharp chin looking like it could poke a hole in the back of her hand.
The old woman shielded her son behind her, desperately grabbing one end of the long chain and tugging at it. "Let go of my boy! What do you want? Are you here to murder and plunder?"
Song Kexin let out a laugh, exasperated by the old hag’s ploy of a thief crying "Thief!" "Granny, are you senile? It was your boy who led this mob to smash our cars and rob us."
"Who’s robbing anyone? Don’t talk nonsense." The old woman slapped resentfully at the glittering golden chain, then looked up at Xie Ning opposite her and said with righteous indignation, "You little brat, let go of my Dazhuang right now."
"Who are you people? What are you doing here at our Hope Base?"
Hope Base?
Everyone couldn’t help but look at each other.
’From what this old woman is saying,’ they thought, ’these career robbers actually established their own base?’
Song Kexin couldn’t help but retort, "What Hope Base? You’re all wearing grass skirts. I’d say Wilderness Base is more like it."
"You!" The old woman shot Song Kexin a fierce glare. "Hilarious. Those scum from Gushang Base? Even if they wanted to come here, we wouldn’t let them."
Just then, the crowd parted as Gu Chen and Lu Wei walked over quickly with their people.
Two soldiers armed with live ammunition stepped forward, hauled up the whimpering, tattooed man from the ground, and dragged him before Gu Chen, tossing him down casually.
"Ow, ow, ow." The tattooed man clutched his throat, groaning in pain.
"Dazhuang! My Dazhuang!" the old hag shrieked as if at a funeral. "You pack of devils, why are you beating and killing people?"
"Oh, just look at you all, dressed up like decent people, but you’re completely deranged! Especially her!"
Li Dawei and the others were so angry they started to laugh.
Heh, this old woman must have been a professional scam artist before the apocalypse. She had truly perfected the art of turning the tables and blaming the victim.
Xie Ning had already retracted her Gold Lock Chain and was now straightening it out, section by section.
