Apocalypse Escape: Day One of Survival

Chapter 466 - 462: Practical

Chapter 466: Chapter 462: Practical

"Ningning, take a look at this." Gu Chen pointed to the tire tossed to the side. "Think you can do something about it?"

Xie Ning hadn’t gotten a chance to give him a piece of her mind yet. The sudden sight of him was a bit of an eyesore.

Gu Chen had no idea why, but when his girlfriend shot him a few dirty looks, he simply responded with a smile.

"I’ll give it a try." Xie Ning glanced at the shape of the tire and walked over to the vehicle.

Creating an entire ship or car from scratch by herself was still a bit of a struggle for her.

But something like this—merely constructing a few parts—was no problem at all.

"You might as well take off the other wheels and save them as spares for another vehicle."

Gu Chen nodded repeatedly and ordered his men to remove all the wheels.

A curious crowd gathered around Captain Xie, watching her circle a wheel to measure its dimensions and thickness. Then, with what seemed like no effort at all, she created seven or eight new wheels.

’She can do that?’

Every member of Team A looked completely dumbfounded.

’Did their captain save the universe or something? Where did he find them such an incredible woman?’

"How does that even work?" The group circled the car as it started up smoothly, their faces full of unconcealed surprise.

Some of the Gold Ability Users on the team crowded around Xie Ning, pestering her with questions.

Some curiously reached out to touch them, while others circled the metal wheels, tapping on them.

"Captain Xie, does this mean that in the future, vehicles made by Gold Ability Users won’t need any fuel?"

Xie Ning nodded. "Theoretically, yes."

"Will it use up a lot of our Gold superpower while it’s running?"

Xie Ning thought for a moment before deciding to tell them the truth. "I don’t know about you all, but I’ve tried it before. Just having a few wheels rolling on the ground consumes almost none of my superpower energy."

Everyone stared at her, their faces blank.

Someone shot a few glares at the idiot who had asked the question.

The target of the glares looked completely bewildered.

"Xiao Tao, are you an idiot? What kind of question was that? You think your superpower energy reserves are the same as Captain Xie’s? That’s the difference between an ocean and a trickle of water!"

The young man who’d been glared at quickly nodded. "Oh, right. Captain Xie’s superpower capacity is definitely way bigger than ours, so we can’t use her as a reference."

"Captain Xie, this ability is so incredibly useful for Gold Ability Users!"

"Yeah, making vehicles run on their own without fuel is just too convenient."

The crucial part was that Captain Xie said just having a few wheels roll around consumed almost no superpower.

That casual statement was a total flex, filling everyone with a deep sense of yearning.

"Jia Min, that Captain Xie is just incredible." Mo Wanrong and Feng JiaMin had been pushed to the edge of the crowd, and after watching for a while, Mo Wanrong couldn’t help but voice her admiration.

"Incredible? What’s so incredible? It’s just a parlor trick," Feng JiaMin retorted, looking unconvinced. "I can do that too! It’s just that Chen didn’t ask me."

"That’s true." Mo Wanrong glanced at Feng JiaMin with an envious expression. "Your Gold Ability is so practical. Not only can you normally create tools like swords and blades, but now you can even make vehicles."

"It’s so convenient and useful!" Mo Wanrong couldn’t help but sigh. "Unlike us Water Element users. Besides providing a bit of water for everyone as logistical support, we’re basically useless."

"Don’t say that, Wanrong." Feng JiaMin glanced at her reassuringly. "You’re very capable, too. If it weren’t for you, everyone on the team would die of thirst."

Mo Wanrong held up her hands. "Okay, okay, you don’t have to comfort me. I’m well aware of my own limitations."

Feng JiaMin glanced toward the front, snorted, and said sourly, "Such a show-off. Let’s go."

"Still, that Captain Xie is really something else," Mo Wanrong mumbled with a pout. "I’d be happy if I were even a tenth as capable as she is."

"What’s so great about her? Her superpower just advanced a little faster than everyone else’s," Feng JiaMin said indignantly. "If I could break through to the Sixth Rank Gold Element, I’d be even better than her."

"Well, well, listen to someone talking big again." A crisp laugh came from nearby.

Feng JiaMin and Mo Wanrong both frowned and turned to look at the woman who had just mocked them.

The woman had a buzz cut, with a small, visible, flesh-colored scar on her forehead.

The black uniform she wore on her straight-backed frame made her look sharp and energetic.

"Qu Lanping." Feng JiaMin’s expression instantly soured. "What are you doing skulking over there? Eavesdropping on us?"

"Who’d want to eavesdrop on you?" Qu Lanping scoffed. "I’m on official duty, leading a patrol in this area."

"You two, on the other hand, should get back to the vehicle if you have nothing better to do. We wouldn’t want the ’young miss’ to get sick from the dust and wind. Then we’d have to take care of her for the rest of the trip."

"You—Qu Lanping!"

"Jia Min, just leave it." The ever-peacemaking Mo Wanrong quickly stepped forward and tugged on her arm. "Let’s go back."

"Qu Lanping, you just wait!" Feng JiaMin seethed through clenched teeth.

"Captain Feng. Cousin." A girl with a ponytail, who had been standing silently beside Qu Lanping, finally spoke up reluctantly when Mo Wanrong looked over.

"Xiao Yu?" A hint of confusion clouded Mo Wanrong’s eyes. "You? What are you doing here?"

"Oh, I forgot to introduce you all. This is my new teammate! Ma Yu, a Fourth Rank Fire Ability User."

A smile played in Qu Lanping’s eyes as she looked provocatively at the stunned Mo Wanrong. "What’s this? Do you two know each other, Miss Mo?"

"Excuse me, Captain Qu. This is my cousin. I’d like to have a private word with her." Mo Wanrong gave a sheepish smile, quickly stepping forward to pull Ma Yu aside.

Ma Yu didn’t resist. She followed her cousin, Mo Wanrong, with her head lowered obediently, but the faint curl of her lips betrayed an almost imperceptible emotion.

"Xiao Yu, what are you doing here?" Mo Wanrong stared at her cousin, feeling like her head was about to explode.

"No, wait, I should be asking *you*—when did you get to Jingji Base?"

"A long time ago," Ma Yu said quietly, her head still bowed.

"Then why didn’t you go home? Do you have any idea how worried Aunt and Uncle are about you?"

"Go home for what?" Ma Yu said coolly. "It’s not like they cared about me that much before the apocalypse."

"Now that I’m capable on my own, I don’t need their fake concern anymore."

"How can you say that?"

"Uncle might have been busy with his business before the apocalypse, but there’s no mistaking how much they genuinely cared for you."

Ma Yu pulled her hand back and flashed a smile at her cousin. "Cousin, can you stop pretending?"

"Isn’t the only reason you constantly have to rely on the family because you’re not capable yourself?"

"If you were powerful like me, ha, would you still be dragging around that dead weight you call family?"

"This is the apocalypse. Stop being so naive."
