Chapter 372: A Dog Catching Mice
Chapter 372: Chapter 372: A Dog Catching Mice
"Miss Song, the captain said you should all fall back and rest for about four hours." A squad leader ran over and spoke very politely to Song Kexin and her group.
"So, what do you think? Would you prefer to go home and rest, or would you mind making do in the rest area we’ve set up? It’s just a few minutes away, but it’s rather basic..."
"We’ll go to your rest area and lie down for a bit." Song Kexin made the decision with a wave of her hand. "Where’s my sister?"
"Miss Xie has already gone to the main control room to rest."
Song Kexin relaxed and nodded with a smile. "Then we’ll leave this place in your hands."
"Thank you for your hard work."
The members of the base’s Superpower Team Three walked up, all politely expressing their gratitude to Song Kexin, Song Youzhi, and the others.
Song Kexin didn’t linger.
After fighting for the better part of the day, her superpower was indeed almost depleted.
She urgently needed to lie down, rest, drink some replenishment water, and restore her superpower as quickly as possible.
The replacement superpower users took their leave one after another. Although the air was still cold, they were all drenched in sweat and utterly exhausted from the fight.
Li Dawei was chugging a bottle of water. "Where are we going?"
"To rest nearby." Song Kexin glanced at him, her attitude softening slightly.
’After all, that kid Li Dawei had worked his tail off all morning. He seemed a little more reliable now...’
"Alright then." Li Dawei shouted to his team members, "Everyone gather up! We’re going with the Starfire Team to rest."
Song Kexin remained expressionless.
Cres ran over and said, "I have to stay here and keep an eye on the battlefield. You guys go rest first."
"You think you can handle it, kid?" Li Dawei reached out to pat his head, but Cres cleverly dodged and shot him a massive eye-roll.
"You’re the one who can’t handle it! Your whole family can’t handle it!" Cres huffed. "Give me two more bottles of Energy Water. I’ll keep them as backup."
Ji Taixian took two bottles from his backpack and handed them over.
Li Dawei stared curiously. "What’s this? It looks different from the Energy Supplement Potions the base issues."
"None of your business!" Cres made a face at him, turned, and ran off.
Song Kexin took a few steps after him, calling out, "Hey, kid, be careful! Don’t overexert your superpower, or you’ll be crying when your head starts to hurt later."
"I know, I know, you’re so naggy." Without turning back, Cres waved a hand at them.
Song Kexin sighed helplessly and turned to the sweat-drenched Song Youzhi. "Dad, let’s head over then."
Song Youzhi nodded. He was also feeling quite exhausted.
Fortunately, he had now entered the ranks of Fourth-stage Superpower Users. Although he had consumed too much superpower energy, he could still hold on.
Song Kexin led the group down from the city wall.
Just as they reached level ground, they came face-to-face with a group of imposing, spirited women.
These women were all young, probably in their twenties or thirties, all wearing identical short, dark green uniforms. Their heights were all over 170 cm.
As they walked over, they happened to run right into Song Kexin’s group of exhausted misfits.
The other group was full of vigor and high spirits, while Song Kexin’s people were... covered in dirt and grime, looking like they’d been fished out of a trash heap.
Ugh... even someone as thick-skulled as Li Dawei felt a little awkward, to say nothing of the others.
Song Kexin, expressionless, led her team forward.
Suddenly, someone stuck out an arm and blocked her path.
"Hey, you’re... that person’s... that person’s sister?"
The woman in the military uniform who stopped Song Kexin was tall and slim with stylishly short hair, a good half a head taller than the young Song Kexin.
Song Kexin continued to stare at her with a wooden expression.
However, Li Xiang, standing behind her, rolled his eyes impatiently. "’That person, that person,’ who are you even talking about? Why are you blocking our way?"
"Hey you, you, you’re that person’s sister, aren’t you."
"Feng JiaMin, are you crazy? Are you trying to start something?" Song Kexin rolled her eyes but didn’t speak. Ji Taixian, beside her, couldn’t hold back.
’That person, that person... Keep pretending! Just keep pretending!’ He refused to believe that Feng JiaMin didn’t remember Ms. Ning’s name.
Feng JiaMin acted as if she had just noticed Ji Taixian, a look of great surprise on her face. "Xiao Xian, what are you doing here? Zong Xuan? You guys..."
"Stop pretending." Ji Taixian cut her off irritably. "I don’t believe your brother didn’t tell you that Zong Xuan and I joined the Starfire Team."
Feng JiaMin pressed her lips together and turned to glance at the girl beside her, who was anxiously twisting the chain of her crossbody bag. "Wanrong, you knew about this too?"
Mo Wanrong lowered her head slightly and nodded.
"No, I really didn’t know." Feng JiaMin took a step forward, reaching out to pat Ji Taixian’s shoulder. "Xiao Xian, what’s with you? Why are you speaking so aggressively? We haven’t seen each other in a while, and you’re already acting so distant?"
Wang Zongxuan said flatly, "You’re supposed to be going up to the city wall to provide support, right? You should get going. Time waits for no one."
"No, Zong Xuan, we haven’t seen each other in so long. Don’t you have anything to say?"
"Do you know how worried your families were while you two were missing? Huh? Grandma Wang was crying every single day. Did you know that?"
"Speaking of which, have you even been back to see your families?"
"Does the Starfire Team have hooks or something, keeping you two tethered here so you can’t go back?"
Seeing her tone growing more and more aggressive, Mo Wanrong quickly raised a hand and tugged on her wrist.
"What are you doing?" Feng JiaMin lightly shook off her hand and turned to scold her irritably, "Look at you, you pushover. What can I even say? No wonder you always get shut down by Xiao Xian."
"Xiao Xian..."
"Who’s your ’Xiao Xian’? ’Xiao Xian, Xiao Xian’... We’re not that close!" Ji Taixian retorted irritably. "What does it have to do with you whether we’ve been home or not? Feng JiaMin, why are you so nosy?"
"I’m nosy??" Feng JiaMin’s eyebrows shot up as she raised her voice. "You’d better explain yourself. How am I being nosy?"
"Hey, hey, hey, hey, Miss Feng, allow me to remind you. Your leader is waiting for you up there! Stop chatting, okay! Let’s go." Ji Taixian grabbed Song Kexin’s hand and started to leave.
"Hey..." Feng JiaMin took a sideways step, blocking the two of them, and stared at their clasped hands with an expression of utter shock.
"Xiao Xian, what is wrong with you? Don’t tell me you’re breaking up with Wanrong to be with... that whatever-her-name-is’s sister."
"’Whatever-her-name-is’s sister’!" Song Kexin exploded, shoving Feng JiaMin hard. "Who the hell do you think you are? You dare talk about my sister? The nerve! Who do you think you are, anyway? You’re so damn nosy."
The members of the Women’s Superpower Second Team hurried to surround them, pushing and shoving at Song Kexin. "Why did you push her? Who are you?"
"Jia Min, are you okay?"
"Hey! Why are you pushing her?"
Ji Taixian pulled Song Kexin behind him. "A dog trying to catch mice—mind your own damn business!"
