After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 576: Advancing

Chapter 576: Chapter 576: Advancing

After learning about this, Vera Coleman had been making all sorts of preparations for her daughter.

First, she hung thick blackout curtains in the room, and then she placed plenty of food and drinks inside. Although she knew Nina would remain in a deep sleep during the advancement process, she wanted to ensure her daughter could immediately grab something to eat the moment she woke up.

"A normal person can only last a few days without food or water. I heard your previous advancement took several days, and this time..." Vera couldn’t help but express her worry after finishing her preparations.

"During the advancement, the body enters a low-consumption state. Besides, a Superpower User’s physique is naturally different from an ordinary person’s. There definitely won’t be any issues," Nina Jacobs reassured her. Just like an electrical appliance entering a low-power standby mode, as long as there was no external interference, there would be no danger.

Hearing this, Vera felt slightly relieved. "You’ve been out every day lately just so you could advance sooner, right? It’s good that you’re advancing. I heard from Uncle Hale that there are quite a few powerful figures over at the Arisdale Base..."

She knew how powerful her daughter was and understood her current desire to lay low. Therefore, none of them would breathe a word about this to anyone.

"Yes, advancing in the base is the safest. I just don’t know if I’ll succeed this time," Nina said.

Nina remembered hearing about many Advanced Superpower Users failing their advancements in her previous life. Most of those who failed were Dual Element or Multi Element Superpower Users. In other words, the more Superpowers one possessed, the higher the chance of failure.

"There’s one more thing," Nina added. "If anyone from Keldorn comes to the base looking for me in the next few days, have Stella help host them. Tell them they might be my friends."

Aside from worrying about her own advancement, Nina’s biggest concern right now was Holly Morgan and the others.

"All right, I understand. Just focus on your advancement and don’t worry about anything else," Vera noted.

Previously, Wayne Abbott’s team had been living in Building 73. When the cold wave hit, both groups discussed it and all moved into Building 72. If Nina’s friends arrived, they could stay in Building 73.

Night fell.

Nina felt the urge of her Superpower breaking through growing stronger and stronger. Right at that moment, the system sent a notification:

[Detected that the host is about to enter the advancement stage. The title "Early Adopter" has been triggered. Rewarding one Probability Enhancement Potion!]

"What is my current advancement probability?" Nina hadn’t expected the system to have this function.

The system’s answer made her extremely nervous: [The host’s current probability of successful advancement is 65%.]

Sixty-five percent... It was actually that low?

[The host is currently a Six Element Superpower User. A 65% probability is already the limit. Using the Probability Enhancement Potion can increase the success rate to 95%.] The system replied, seemingly sensing Nina’s intense anxiety.

One potion increased it by thirty percent? Without any hesitation, Nina immediately drank the potion.

She only felt slightly relieved after confirming with the system that her probability of successful advancement had reached ninety-five percent. As expected, the more Superpower elements one had, the harder the advancement process became. This perfectly matched what she knew from her past life.

"Is there a way to raise it to a hundred percent?" Nina asked.

Anything short of a one hundred percent success rate was not entirely reassuring. If the first advancement failed, she would have to wait for a second attempt, which could take anywhere from several months to several years.

[The Probability Enhancement Potion has been unlocked. The effects of up to two potions can be stacked. The host may go to the store to redeem and use them at will,] the system answered.

Nina finally remembered that once a potion gifted by the system was unlocked, it could be redeemed in the system store. Items in the store required a deduction of a massive amount of System Experience. Since her daily rewards were usually sufficient, she rarely used the system store.

However, she noticed that redeeming a Probability Enhancement Potion actually required Beast Cores. One potion cost 500 Beast Cores.

"That’s a lot," Nina murmured, glad that she had previously accepted the Beast Cores Trevor had given her.

Even though she was only short of a five percent success rate, she still redeemed another Probability Enhancement Potion. Hearing the system confirm that her advancement success rate had reached one hundred percent, Nina finally felt completely at ease.

Downstairs, Daniel Hale and his son, Leo Hale, had also learned about the matter. Both of them were shocked and pleasantly surprised.

"Since Nina doesn’t want anyone to know, there must be a reason. No one in our family is allowed to breathe a word of this to anyone," Daniel said.

"Don’t look at me with such suspicion. I definitely won’t say a thing," Leo quickly stated, noticing Vera and Daniel staring at him. If he actually leaked this, the entire base would probably be in an uproar.

"It’s good that you know," Daniel said.

"This is for the best. If Nina successfully advances, we’ll feel much more at ease about her going to City A." Others would only envy Nina, but Daniel knew that she had sacrificed far more than ordinary people to reach this point.

However, none of the family had expected Nina’s advancement to last for so many days.

On the morning of the sixth day, Vera opened Nina’s door, only to find her daughter still in the process of advancing. She quietly closed the door, trying her best not to disturb her. By the tenth day of repeating this same action of opening and closing the door, Vera finally showed a worried expression.

"How is it?" Daniel and Leo hurried over to ask.

Vera shook her head. "Still the same as before."

"This..." Daniel couldn’t help but worry. Ten days without food or drink—was that really okay? But they also knew that they couldn’t interrupt Nina’s advancement right now.

"Anyway, I’ve heard that the longer the advancement takes, the stronger they become later. Don’t worry, maybe it’ll be done by tonight," Leo said. He was quite envious, wondering just how powerful Nina would be when she woke up.

Meanwhile, Nina was immersed in an entirely different world. She didn’t know how much time had passed, only that the pond that had originally been in front of her had transformed into a vast lake. The power representing her Superpower gathered into trickles like droplets of water, which then converged into a stream. The stream surged, flowing endlessly toward the lake.

Perhaps because she knew her advancement would definitely succeed, or perhaps because she felt safe enough at home, Nina patiently and calmly felt the accumulation of every single water droplet.

What she didn’t know was that fifteen days had already passed since the day she started her advancement...

During this period, Ian Chandler and others had come looking for Nina, but Vera had turned them away, claiming she was out and hadn’t returned. Even everyone in Stella assumed that Nina had gone out alone again.

Only Wayne Warner remained guarding the second floor of the house. Treasure and Lexy also liked to be close to him, often coming up the dedicated cat and dog slide Nina had built to play with him.

That evening, Chase Gallagher knocked on their front door. Vera initially thought he was looking for Nina.

"I’m looking for Wayne Warner," Chase said instead.

"Looking for Wayne?" Vera realized then that someone from Keldorn had indeed come looking for her daughter. However, since Nina was supposedly not in the base, Chase had come to find Wayne to confirm things. After all, Wayne was the only one who had accompanied Nina to Keldorn.

When a disheveled Godfrey Thatcher saw Wayne, his eyes immediately turned red.

"Mr. Warner!" Seeing Wayne, Godfrey reacted as if he had just seen his savior.

Chase and Holden Shaw exchanged a glance. Wayne recognized Godfrey, which meant that what this man had told them was likely true. However, Wayne didn’t seem to know why Godfrey had shown up here.

Seeing Wayne’s bewildered expression, Chase proceeded to explain the situation to him.
