Chapter 571: Respective Considerations
Chapter 571: Chapter 571: Respective Considerations
Even the experienced Adrian Paige hadn’t anticipated this approach.
"It certainly is interesting. Besides, the battlefield is ever-changing. Having a Thunder Element Healer might not be a bad idea, right?" Adrian asked.
"There’s more to it," Nina Jacobs replied. Her simple words already opened up all kinds of possibilities for Sylvia Shawn. Hearing this, Myra Lawson also fell into deep thought.
Over ninety minutes later, Marcus Palmer’s Earth Element Superpower was struggling to keep up. Even the defensive wall he conjured had grown noticeably thinner. Although the Thunder Element Superpower had also weakened, its speed remained as ferocious as ever.
Until Marcus was shocked to discover that he could no longer manipulate the earth and stones?!
"What’s going on?" Marcus shouted. He clearly still had a small amount of Superpower left!
"Sorry. Even though I didn’t attack you, you might want to look into step voltage," Sylvia smiled. Her electric currents had already drilled into the ground. As long as both of Marcus’s feet remained on the floor, she could keep him from mobilizing his Superpower.
The match was temporarily paused. Sylvia looked toward the judges’ seats in slight confusion, though she couldn’t hear what they were discussing.
"This is a foul," Marcus said, residual anger still showing on his face.
"I didn’t foul. The competition rules state that both sides are not allowed to attack each other, and I indeed didn’t attack you," Sylvia stated. The formation of ground voltage was a physical property. For Marcus, who was standing on the ground, it caused no harm other than preventing him from using his Earth Element Superpower.
"Just wait to be eliminated. Since they put you and me in the same group, they never intended for you to win," Marcus sneered, then lowered his voice. "A little girl like you should just live peacefully inside the base. Sometimes, when you women go outside, you can get people killed at any moment."
SMACK!
A crisp slap echoed throughout the entire arena. Sylvia glared angrily at Marcus, her lips trembling slightly. The judges, who had been in the middle of a discussion, all turned to look. They saw Marcus putting on a magnanimous expression, telling the people around them that he was fine and even trying to comfort Sylvia. However, Sylvia ignored him, turning on her heel and walking away.
"Sylvia doesn’t have a very good temper. What do you think, Mr. Paige? If she’s chosen to go to Arisdale Base, wouldn’t she tarnish our base’s reputation?" Philip Morgan remarked upon seeing the scene. Publicly slapping an opponent in broad daylight was completely improper.
Adrian, however, turned his head to look at Nina. "Does Captain Jacobs feel the same way?"
Leaning back in her seat, Nina smiled. "I think her performance in the match just now has already brought honor to our base."
Bringing honor to the base... Hearing this, Myra suddenly felt that Nina’s words made perfect sense. After all, Sylvia’s combat style was truly brilliant.
Adrian also nodded. "As long as Captain Jacobs thinks it’s fine, then it’s not a problem. After all, Captain Jacobs is the person in charge of this trip to Arisdale Base."
It was a double entendre. Hearing this, Isaac Leopold snuck a glance at Philip, only to find the latter’s face as dark as the bottom of a pot.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. It’s truly terrifying when these two team up to roast someone," he whispered, leaning over Chester Pearson’s shoulder.
"Indeed." Chester was already starting to feel somewhat sympathetic toward Philip.
Myra was indeed taking Nina’s opinion into consideration. Over ten minutes later, the judges’ voting results were finalized. The outcome was once again 4 to 1, with Sylvia winning by four votes.
This result made Michael Miller feel a sense of crisis. Looking at the scores of 85 and 55 given by Nina, he increasingly felt that his worries might be justified. Were those four people all listening to Nina?
Marcus stared at the result in disbelief. Why? Where exactly was he worse than Sylvia? Both of their Superpowers had held out until the end, and he clearly hadn’t exhausted his!
"Your score is extremely abnormal. No matter how poorly you performed, it shouldn’t have been a fifty-five," Michael said as he rolled his wheelchair over.
Marcus clenched his fists upon hearing this. The score made him feel humiliated, but what made him feel even more slighted was the fact that he didn’t even receive a single comment. Looking at the blank comment section, he felt as if needles were pricking his back.
"As expected of a senior, you really have a keen eye for talent," Sylvia said, looking at him with a smile. "You were deliberately trying to provoke me earlier, weren’t you?" She knew Marcus had investigated every single one of them and was aware of some things that had happened to her in the past.
"I never wanted to get anyone killed, and I won’t allow others to falsely accuse me," Sylvia said, her tone hostile. She had indeed lost control a little just now, but so what? He completely brought that slap upon himself.
"Hahaha, our Sylvia has never been one to bow under pressure. Did you seriously not know that?" Julian Wells remarked from where he was sitting nearby. Two female team members were massaging his back, making him look incredibly leisurely. "Sylvia, we’ll be traveling together from now on anyway. Since you were kicked out of your team before, why don’t you join The Briar Team?"
"Not interested." Sylvia cast him a glance. She simply felt that being alone was fine; it didn’t matter if she was teamless.
Nina also learned from Myra about Sylvia being expelled from her team not long ago.
"I originally thought that if she had nowhere to go, she could come work for the rescue team. The Thunder Element Superpower is considered rare, and she also possesses a Healing Element Superpower. If she’s properly trained in the future, she might even be able to serve as a capable assistant by Ian Chandler’s side," Myra said as she and Nina shared their delivered lunches in the halftime break room.
So it was for Ian Chandler. Nina understood upon hearing this. Myra’s consideration was indeed not a bad thing for Sylvia.
"I don’t know her well, but I think the reason she saved her trump card for this match was definitely because she wanted to win," Nina said. Before this match, no one knew Sylvia had these tricks up her sleeve. "Besides, even if she goes to City A, it doesn’t conflict with your previous idea. If she gets better training and cultivation, she can still contribute to our base."
Nodding as she listened, Myra agreed, "You’re absolutely right. Now, I’m actually looking forward to it even more."
"Why was she kicked out of her team, anyway?" Nina asked curiously.
Myra sighed helplessly. "It happened before the cold wave arrived. Their team went out and encountered a zombie horde, losing several people. Later, they claimed it was because she shouldn’t have come out while on her period. It wasn’t really her fault; it’s just an unavoidable factor for us women."
"I see." Nina recalled the incident at the arena earlier. No wonder Sylvia had been so furious. At the time, she had happened to use Five Senses Enhancement and overheard their conversation. Although she hadn’t known exactly what had happened, Marcus definitely seemed to have been deliberately provoking her. Therefore, even when Philip raised his objections, she hadn’t paid any mind to them.
In the two matches that afternoon, the first was a duel between Caleb Carter and a Dual Element Superpower User. The result was still a higher vote count for Caleb, who won 3 to 2.
"As expected, in the face of the absolute strength of a single element, a Dual Element Superpower has no room to fight back." Chester no longer envied Dual Element Superpower Users. Caleb was a perfect example. When a Dual Element Superpower User with a more versatile combat style faced an overwhelmingly powerful single element, everything else seemed superfluous.
"Mhm. Actually, that Dual Element Superpower User was pretty good too," Nina remarked after watching the two-hour match. That was why she had given them both identical scores of 80.
Even though the Dual Element Superpower User had lost, they still ran over with red eyes to bow to Nina after seeing their score.
