After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 563: 0-Year-Old Superpower User

Chapter 563: Chapter 563: 0-Year-Old Superpower User

Finding a Spiritwing inside Argent was truly a surprise.

Sherry Renner was quite worried about Nina Jacobs’s safety, so she decided to help Nina find her master. Doing so might just help Nina fend off a lot of trouble.

"My master must still be alive. Maybe he fled to some uninhabited land to escape the disaster," Sherry said as she followed Nina outside.

The base had a place for posting missing person notices. She planned to try her luck there first; if someone had a clue, she could track it down.

"It’s normal to make enemies. Besides, I’m not exactly a good person myself. Are you still worried about me?" Nina asked, watching Sherry lock the courtyard door and reapply the official seal.

Just then, an unexpected voice asked from behind, "Why are you here?"

Nina turned around and found that it was Ianna Jacobs, who lived across the street.

"Do you know her?" Sherry leaned in and asked.

"No," Nina replied without hesitation.

Ianna immediately flushed red. Pointing a finger at Nina, she snapped, "You... you have the nerve to say you don’t know me?! My injuries still haven’t healed, and it’s all because of you!"

Just seeing Nina made Ianna’s abdomen throb with a dull pain. Now that Nina was standing right in front of her, how could she claim she didn’t know her?

"Weren’t you the one who brought people to provoke me first?" Nina asked.

"I... that was a normal challenge! Since Stella is the number one team in the base, you should be prepared to accept a fight at any time. Besides, we’ll surpass Stella sooner or later," Ianna insisted stubbornly.

"And another thing, what right do you have to tear off the base’s official seal?" she continued, pointing at the courtyard door behind Sherry. "The people who lived here committed crimes and were arrested. Don’t tell me you’re here to steal?"

"Miss, which eye of yours saw us stealing? I have the key, okay?" Sherry dangled the keys in her hand. She had gone through the proper application process to get them.

However, Ianna didn’t seem willing to let it go. "So what if you have a key? I bet you’re just here to scavenge for leftovers. Tell her to apologize to me, and I’ll pretend I never saw you. Otherwise, I’ll have someone report you to the base right now," she threatened, pointing at Nina.

"Are you dreaming?" Nina no longer wanted to entertain this version of Ianna. Sure enough, she was exactly the same as in her past life.

"Let’s go," Nina said.

"Yeah, seems like it’s a bad day to go out. We keep bumping into pests," Sherry said loudly on purpose as she turned and followed Nina.

"You, you people..." Ianna tried to chase after them, but an inexplicable wall of sand suddenly rose up, blocking her path.

Sherry found the whole encounter quite amusing. "I’ve never seen anyone in the base bold enough to challenge Stella. She’s not originally from around here, is she?"

Nina kept walking without looking back. "Yeah, I heard she came from another base."

Over the past few days, Nina had been recalling events from her past life. Her relationship with Sterling Jacobs was practically zero; they were no different from strangers. In her previous life, because of Ianna, they had ended up inexplicably entangled in too many ways. But this time, she wanted absolutely nothing to do with that father and daughter.

"People from other bases coming here at a time like this? I’ll look into them for you later..." Sherry murmured.

The sand wall finally dissipated only after their figures completely disappeared into the distance. Ianna’s expression gradually turned desolate. She stared down the empty road ahead, then turned around and walked in the opposite direction.

The weather grew increasingly, bitterly cold.

Over the following days, Nina gave up on taking Stella out on excursions. The vast majority of the vehicles in the base could no longer start, and it felt as though everything in the world had been frozen solid—except for the zombies.

The City D Base gradually rolled out various measures to combat the extreme cold. For instance, they opened a trading market on the commercial street where survivors in the base could barter for the supplies they needed. For Superpower User teams that were unable to venture out to kill zombies and scavenge, the base would provide free food, provided they passed a review.

Multiple warming shelters were also set up across the base, each capable of accommodating thousands of people. Homeless survivors could stay there free of charge. The shelters provided daily rations of watery porridge. Though meager, it was enough to ensure that people wouldn’t starve or freeze to death.

"With it being this cold, I wonder what the other bases are like," Vera Coleman remarked. Nina had actually been staying home obediently for the past couple of days, which was quite a rare sight.

Nina sat on a soft cushion in comfortable loungewear, holding a somewhat worn, ancient-looking book. Vera only knew that it was a history book detailing the ancient history of Drakonia, and lately, her daughter seemed to be reading it every single day.

Hearing Vera’s words, Nina replied without looking up from the pages, "As long as you’re inside a base, you have a chance at survival. The real hardship is for those stuck on the outside."

The Drakonian Command Headquarters had notified many bases in advance, so the number of survivors in this life would definitely be higher than in her previous one.

A soft little bundle suddenly flopped onto her lap. Nina couldn’t help but reach out and scoop up Leontine Hale, who had just clambered up. The little bundle felt incredibly soft to the touch, and her scent was wonderfully soothing.

"DADA, DADADA!"

Both twin sisters loved staying by her side. After teasing Leontine for a bit, Nina realized that Sabrina, who was lying next to her, had fallen asleep.

"Speaking of which, Joy has been sleeping a lot lately. She’s dozing off at the drop of a hat," Vera said, picking Sabrina up and placing her gently into her crib.

"I’ve heard that as long as they’re in good spirits, it’s normal for babies to sleep a lot," Nina said, not overthinking it.

However, by the time evening rolled around, Sabrina still showed no signs of waking up, throwing the whole family into a panic. Without a second thought, Nina had Wayne Warner drive them straight to the base hospital.

The hospital staff didn’t dare neglect them, but after a thorough examination, they found absolutely nothing wrong. Paisley Paige even applied a healing technique, yet Sabrina still wouldn’t wake up.

"She was perfectly fine before! How could she just fall asleep and not wake up?" Vera cried. No matter how much she called out, Sabrina remained fast asleep.

"Joy seems to genuinely just be sleeping. If there’s nothing wrong with her body, maybe it’s not a bad thing?" Nina pondered, a vague theory forming in her mind as she looked at the incredibly peaceful baby.

She had heard before that some people would sleep for extended periods right before their superpowers awakened. This usually happened to individuals with strong physical constitutions; the awakening process wouldn’t trigger adverse reactions like fevers, but instead dropped their bodies into a state of minimal energy consumption.

Could it be that even such a tiny infant could awaken a superpower?

At that thought, Nina stopped panicking completely. After all, she had secretly fed the baby a few drops of Healing Potion. If Sabrina really did have a disease, it would have been cured already.

"Nina’s right. She’ll definitely be fine," Daniel Hale said, comforting his wife. He planned to keep watch at the hospital all night.

It wasn’t until noon the next day that Sabrina finally woke up crying. However, everyone could tell that the only reason she was crying was because she was absolutely ravenous. Watching Sabrina hungrily gulp down milk while clutching her bottle, the family finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"Is that... a leaf on Joy’s head?" Leo Hale, standing beside Vera, suddenly noticed something extra sprouting from the top of his little sister’s head.

Vera didn’t react immediately either. Why was grass growing out of her daughter’s head?

"It’s a Wood Element Superpower," Nina said with a smile.

Sure enough, the zero-year-old Sabrina Hale had already become a Wood Element Ability User.
