Chapter 514: Justin Stone’s Plea
Chapter 514: Chapter 514: Justin Stone’s Plea
Nina Jacobs knew that brandishing the Holy Water in public would attract some unwanted attention.
But she hadn’t expected it to be so soon.
’It seems the appeal of Healing Potions is truly immense.’
After hearing what Aurelius Marshall said, she didn’t panic. Instead, she asked:
"Your Base Commander’s name is Justin Stone?"
Aurelius Marshall was a little surprised. "You know him?"
Nina Jacobs shook her head. "I’ve heard of him."
She only knew that Justin Stone had been to the City D Base and watched the base’s Superpower User tournament.
Later, on their way to the Bishop Clan, they had passed through Aethelgard and rescued Aidan Keaton and his group, who had been trapped inside.
Apparently, this was all Justin Stone’s handiwork.
Under the guise of rescuing the city’s remaining survivors, he had tricked everyone from Aethelgard who had opposed him at Riventon Base into returning. He then sealed off the city, causing the deaths of countless survivors.
However, when they parted ways with Aidan Keaton’s group, Aidan had sworn to avenge the people of Aethelgard who had been wrongfully killed and expose Justin Stone’s actions.
’I wonder how far they’ve gotten...’
"Miss Jacobs, don’t worry. If he gives you any trouble,
I’ll risk my life to get you two out of this base."
Aurelius Marshall whispered in her ear on the way to see Justin Stone.
"He won’t give us any trouble. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have sent you to get us."
Nina Jacobs said with a confident smile, looking at the nearly deserted base ahead.
Atop the tallest building in Riventon Base.
In a room surrounded by electric heaters, a man was pacing anxiously.
"Why aren’t they here yet?
Didn’t I tell you to bring them here as quickly as possible?"
Justin Stone demanded over the base’s intercom.
He stood before the floor-to-ceiling window, his current appearance reflected in the glass.
The man in the reflection had sores at the corners of his mouth from stress, and his stubble hadn’t been touched in ages. He looked utterly haggard.
He looked like a completely different person from three months ago.
But none of that mattered to him right now.
He couldn’t be bothered with it at all.
Because he had already received news that Drakonian Command Headquarters was going to strip him of all his duties in Riventon Base.
It was only this sudden cold snap that kept the people sent by the Command Headquarters too busy to deal with him.
But he knew that once they finished what they were doing, they would immediately drag him down from this position of absolute authority.
They might even prosecute him for his crimes.
He had to secure a foolproof escape plan before that happened.
The Holy Water was what he wanted most right now.
"Damn those remnants of Aethelgard! I should have just killed them all back then!"
A nameless rage flared in Justin Stone’s heart as he thought about the cause of all this.
He never expected that any survivors would be able to escape from Aethelgard.
And he’d heard that the people who helped them escape were a merchant caravan from City F.
What he expected even less was that those people would gather all the evidence and report his actions directly to the City A command headquarters.
Just then, a knock came from the door.
"Come in, quickly."
Justin Stone opened the door himself.
But when he saw the person standing outside, he froze.
"You?"
Justin Stone stared at Nina Jacobs, utterly shocked.
The last time he had seen Nina Jacobs was at the Superpower User tournament in the City D Base.
He only knew she was the captain of a Psionics Unit from the City D Base called "Stella."
"You recognize me?"
Nina Jacobs asked, feigning surprise.
It was, in fact, the first time she had seen Justin Stone in person.
"I’ve seen you before, but that was a few months ago,
You’re Nina Jacobs, right? I never expected you to appear in our Riventon Base. It’s a true honor."
"Aurelius Marshall, you all can leave us for now."
Justin Stone personally poured Nina Jacobs a glass of water.
Although Aurelius Marshall was very worried, he saw that Justin Stone’s attitude was polite enough. He bowed his head and left, but he, Benjamin Wood, and the others stood guard at the end of the hallway.
If Justin Stone tried to harm Nina Jacobs, they would be ready to respond immediately.
"Let’s cut to the chase. Captain Jacobs, your ’Stella’ has quite a reputation. I have great faith in your character."
After the pleasantries, Justin Stone couldn’t wait to ask.
"I heard you have some Holy Water. Captain Jacobs, your magnanimity in using such a precious item to save my subordinate, Aurelius Marshall, has earned my deepest admiration,
I was just wondering if you have any more Holy Water?"
Nina Jacobs smiled upon hearing this. ’Looks like I was right,’ she thought.
"I’m afraid not."
She replied, feigning hesitation.
Seeing her act this way only made Justin Stone more desperate.
"Rest assured, as the Base Commander of this entire base, I am making a sincere offer to purchase it.
You came all the way from the City D Base to look for supplies, didn’t you?
How about I trade you supplies for it?"
’Trade supplies for a Healing Potion?’
"Of course I trust you, Mr. Stone. I heard a little about you back at the City D Base.
But... I really don’t think I can fulfill your request."
Nina Jacobs said.
What she didn’t expect was that after hearing her words, Justin Stone would thump to his knees in front of her.
"What are you doing?"
Nina Jacobs asked, pretending to be surprised.
Justin Stone began to speak, his voice thick with tears:
"The weather has been terrible lately, and casualties in the base have skyrocketed. As the Base Commander, I simply can’t stand by and do nothing.
If Riventon Base could have a few bottles of Holy Water in reserve, it would not only boost everyone’s confidence but also save the survivors in the base.
So I’m begging you, Captain Jacobs, please sell me a few bottles. I’ll give you anything!"
Holy Water was so precious it could be used by the drop, yet Nina Jacobs had used an entire bottle on Aurelius Marshall!
This proved that Nina Jacobs was the type to disregard everything in order to save someone.
He believed that for this kind of individualistic hero, threats and bribes would be useless. An appeal to saving the masses was the only effective approach.
Sure enough, he saw a flicker of hesitation on Nina Jacobs’s face.
Justin Stone’s heart leaped with joy, and he continued to strike while the iron was hot.
"Rest assured, Captain Jacobs, I will make every single drop count. If you are willing to part with it, the people of Riventon Base will remember you forever!"
Nina Jacobs sighed and said:
"There’s no need for that. I do happen to have a few more bottles of Holy Water that I came by unexpectedly.
I was originally planning to trade them to my base after returning to City D. But if Riventon Base is in such dire need, perhaps I can reconsider."
’Where there’s demand, there’s a market.’
’The people from Meridia Base aren’t the only ones selling Holy Water. It’s better to trade a large amount of supplies to me than to them.’
’Besides, Nia also said that the Holy Water came from Veridia. Perhaps those supplies will end up being shipped to Veridia anyway.’
Justin Stone’s eyes lit up. ’It’s working!’
"Don’t worry, Captain Jacobs. Riventon Base will not treat you unfairly. Our offer will definitely not be lower than City D Base’s."
Justin Stone continued, striking while the iron was hot.
"Name your price. As you know, I have a whole team to support."
Nina Jacobs said directly.
"How many bottles can you sell, Captain Jacobs?" Justin Stone asked.
’Soon, I won’t be the Base Commander anymore. If I escape, the outside world will be full of dangers. I definitely can’t take supplies with me, but Holy Water is an exception.’
’A few small bottles of Holy Water won’t be easily discovered, can save my life later, and I could even resell them to others...’
