After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret

Chapter 507: Cooling Down

Chapter 507: Chapter 507: Cooling Down

In the surveillance room, she watched the saved footage from the past few days.

Three days ago, these people had captured innocent individuals to use as bait for the Mirewood Zombie Rats. Those victims were clearly survivors from Drakonia.

There were over twenty of them.

Nina Jacobs didn’t consider herself a very compassionate person.

But seeing the footage of her fellow Drakonians tied up in various places, being devoured bite by bite by Zombie Rats, still filled her with rage.

These Little Zombie Rats were all under her control. Though there were only a dozen or so, they were fiercer and more cunning than any other type of Zombie Rat.

In just a few moments, the remaining dozens of people began to writhe on the ground.

The scene before her was utterly absurd.

They flung the Zombie Rats off their own bodies and onto their companions.

Their companions, eyes red with fury after being bitten, started attacking those around them with their Superpowers.

Some, thinking the people next to them had already turned into zombies, pulled out their weapons and began firing wildly...

The ones bitten by the Zombie Rats were killed by their own allies before they even had a chance to turn.

Meanwhile, the remaining Little Zombie Rats had scurried straight into the two armored vehicles.

Listening to the screams from within, Nina Jacobs waited another ten minutes before waving her hand and using her Gold Element Superpower to pry open the vehicle doors.

Inside the blood-splattered compartments, there were over a dozen zombies in total, some standing, some crawling.

Nina Jacobs didn’t want to interrogate them one by one, so she had simply used the Little Zombie Rats to turn them all into zombies in one go.

After all, not a single one of them was innocent.

The system’s "Selfless Savior" title triggered again. Nina Jacobs temporarily sealed the two vehicle compartments.

Next, she needed to complete her free shopping mission.

Mirewood wasn’t large, so Vornholt wasn’t hard to find.

Nina Jacobs soon arrived outside Vornholt, where she noticed numerous signs of past battles.

What surprised her even more was that Vornholt was surrounded by several rows of buildings, some of which were packed full of zombies!

"Looks like quite a few people have tried to claim the supplies here before," Nina Jacobs said after surveying the area with her Little Zombie Rats.

Vornholt was located at the far end of Mirewood; reaching it required crossing most of the county.

The zombies trapped here were likely the handiwork of others, but in the end, no one had managed to successfully retrieve the supplies.

Nina Jacobs activated her system’s "Instant Detonation" skill and found that all these buildings could be targeted.

After selecting the four buildings with the most zombies, Nina Jacobs used the detonation skill directly.

[System has detected that the host has used the "Instant Detonation" skill 4 times, killing 8,539 zombies and gaining 8,539 System Experience points!]

The zombies within Mirewood had already been mostly wiped out by those people.

However, there were several other counties within a few dozen kilometers, so Nina Jacobs didn’t dare to waste any more time.

Puppet Gordon was still following the two of them. Nina Jacobs had him stay behind to help Wayne Warner kill the remaining zombies, while she used her Speed Element Superpower to enter the Vornholt compound.

Inside the compound, the faded and peeling painted sign for the "Mirewood Supply and Marketing Cooperative" was mostly flaked off. Shielded by the eaves, the metal warehouse doors had not yet been completely corroded.

Nina Jacobs used her Gold Element Superpower to open the sealed metal warehouse doors, and a scent of old wheat mixed with dry dust washed over her.

’It’s actually this well-preserved.’

The dry, sealed environment had protected it from damp and rot. The warehouse seemed to contain all sorts of supplies and general goods.

She gave the layout a quick scan and found that the supplies fell into roughly five categories: grains and oils, non-staple dried goods, daily necessities, agricultural production materials, and other daily-life items like medicine and tea.

Unfortunately, the seeds intended for agricultural production seemed to have molded over; only some of the hermetically sealed packages were still usable.

Nina Jacobs quickly collected the items as she scanned them. The amount of supplies for the Four Stars task was considerable, and after about ten minutes, the system’s task completion notification sounded again.

Outside Wexall Gate, Wayne Warner had already killed a good number of zombies.

When Nina Jacobs came out, she found that Gordon was gone.

Wayne Warner pointed to a zombie corpse on the ground, and Nina Jacobs understood immediately.

Gordon had been infected with the zombie virus and, after turning, was killed by Wayne Warner.

"Let’s go. We have other things to do."

Nina Jacobs had never planned on keeping Gordon around anyway.

After gathering all the Spatial Zombies from the two armored vehicles into one, she stored the other vehicle in her inventory.

The vehicles these people had brought seemed to be high-performance, especially the two armored ones.

After picking up Lexy, who was waiting in the car outside the city, Nina Jacobs found a deserted factory and released the zombies.

After a quick inspection, Nina Jacobs discovered that 12 of the 14 zombies were Spatial Zombies.

Wanting to save time, Nina Jacobs took out the Divine Wood.

For the past several days, she had been using her remaining Superpower to nourish the Divine Wood every night before bed.

The Divine Wood, originally the size of a grown man’s fist, had now grown a little larger.

Not only that, but the white tendrils on its underside had also grown longer, looking more like roots when submerged in water.

The Divine Wood, which had originally been nourished in blood, had clearly come to life.

She wasn’t sure what her limit was for controlling Puppet Zombies, but if it was for a short period, she might be able to control multiple at once, provided she had enough Superpower.

Nina Jacobs used her Wood Element Superpower to evenly break off six small splinters from the Divine Wood.

Propelled by her Wind Element Superpower, the wood splinters shot directly into the bodies of the Spatial Zombies, who were still bound by her Thunder Element Superpower.

"Take out all the supplies from your spatial inventories. Don’t stop until they’re empty."

Nina Jacobs commanded.

Only two of the six zombies hesitated for a moment, but then they too began to place supplies onto the empty ground in front of them, just as Nina Jacobs had ordered.

There was a large amount of supplies, and judging by the packaging, they were all from within Drakonia.

"These people must have arrived in Drakonia two months ago."

Nina Jacobs found a document among the items produced by one of the Space Superpower Users.

Although she couldn’t read the Xenor script, she could still tell it was a supply ledger.

It recorded the supplies they had collected from various places in Drakonia.

A significant portion of it was supplies obtained by killing Drakonian Space Superpower Users.

And the date entries also began two months ago.

’There are so many supplies.’

Even Nina Jacobs was surprised by the sheer volume of supplies after emptying the inventories of all 12 Spatial Zombies.

"And their designation is ’Scavenger Team 3,’ which means there are likely other teams from Veridia."

The supplies from the 12 Spatial Zombies filled up eight of her Seventh Level System inventory slots.

Combined with the supplies she had collected in Mirewood, her haul for the day was truly substantial.

It was already afternoon. After burning all the zombies to ash, Nina Jacobs decided to get back on the road.

If she remembered correctly, the temperature drop was set to begin that very night. They had to pick up the pace...

「Late that night.」

The temperature plummeted from a high of around 70 degrees to 30 degrees.

The day after the survivors celebrated the end of the heatwave, the temperature dropped directly to 5 degrees.

By now, many people were starting to feel a sense of panic.

The sun still hung in the sky. There was no rain, no snow, not even a biting wind.

Yet, people could feel a strange, creeping cold.

Their former summer clothing was now completely useless. The survivors had to start searching again for warm clothes and blankets.

Nina Jacobs knew this also meant that a new round of fighting over supplies was about to begin.
